Marxus does seem quite insecure like @Vattena said, something I kind of picked up on based off of his interactions with us and others. For example, in the early childhood scene where you can choose to hold his hand, I think he pulled away because he didnt think he was worthy of affection. Or how he only really talks to us when he has something to give us, which may come from his need for love, but inability to express it, due to King Andus probably trying to raise him to be a cold person. Just my 2 cents though, I could be completely wrong.
I think you quite spot on, and he have reasons to be insecure considering how queen victoria and many noble look him as “not worthy”. Also @DancingInTheRain279, this can be another reason why marxus hate mc in canon

Yeah, poor guy. That why I wary about taking the throne, that mean the burden going to go to mc as well
Mc obviously can be like that, but why I have feeling marxus can be like this?
I mean, after leading a rebellion, and crushing all those who didnt support him, and rewarding those who did, my MC would probably not be as paranoid. After all, if someone wanted him dead, they would have done it when he was preparing to revolt, or when he was a fighting in a battle or at some time like that.

Well, Im going to make Clithus the queen after Im king, so she can still be my general. And in the playthrough where I make Clithus the queen, Im going to make sure Sophia is my court wizard or some position where she can advise me.
