Kingdoms: Embers In Ashes[WIP] [OLD VERSION]

Even if King Andus actually did give Marxus the necklace in the hope that it would nullify our magic, he failed to see one thing:

Crossbows don’t need magic to function :smirk:

Thanks for telling me. You have given me idea for my wedding night - lying on the floor trying to find a way to use his trap against him.
Wait why didn’t he threw it in a gutter when brother married Melissa.

This is after the duke says that you are a man of swords

A shot from the crossbow would be too distant for satisfaction. Take a dagger lace it with poison stab him in the kidney and savour the felling.

True, but that method would be for only the sneakiest and/or the strongest of the MCs, seeing as our father is a warrior in his own right. For the MCs who are better off in magic and intellect, they likely wouldn’t be able to get anywhere near our father without attracting unwanted attention.

Unless…

(That gif includes Season 6 GoT spoilers, so proceed with caution.)

I noticed:

“All were silenced by the words spoken by the Lucrasian princess. Not one of them expected a princess to be strong-willed. Nverthless, the wedding continued.”

It should be Nevertheless.

After seeing the last update, I will probably go for a victory a la Tywin Lannister: make myself indispensable and rule from the shadows.

Marxus is too emotional to be king, Victoria not enough.

Some of the dukes looks decent (especially Jerome) but some are short sighted (Clarent isn’t pragmatic for example).

Please…please let me burn this whole kingdom to the ground, a kingdom that took everything from me is not worth saving, it is not worth protecting, to me…it has no right to exist, not after they took her away from me. Please let me become a mad sorcerer intent on destroying the world.

I have to admit, you spun a really compelling story here dear writer and it is a rare thing for me to get attached to a character in such a short time span, usually it took me five to eight chapter.

At first I roleplayed as a kind prince who is intent on spreading goodness to the world, the characters were likeable, Mother was someone that just wanted the best for her son, Javier was someone that is a kind of a mentor figure/right-hand man, Brother was someone that drawed the short end of the stick of life but is doing his best in life, really admirable…even Father is somewhat likeable, so I thought to myself, “Yeah, this is good, we’re going to be a prince that will make this world a better place.” But then it happened, the moment Melissa kissed Marxus,
all I can feel is despair, anger and HATE…gone is the man intent on spreading goodness and happiness to the world, gone is the man who is willing to sacrifice himself for the kingdom if needed, instead, all that left is a shell that is filled to the brim with negativity towards the world, at that moment, only one thought run across it, “This world is WRONG! All I’ve ever done is be good and fulfill everyone’s expectation, yet, this is how it repaid me?! This kind of world don’t deserve to continue existing…”

I was roleplaying so hard that it actually affected my (then) current emotional state, bravo dear writer, you really do know how to write a scenario, I was kind of sad that we can’t choose how to react when the king proclaimed Marxus and Melissa’s wedding , especially during their kiss, if it’s not too much to ask, would you let us choose how to react during said scene? Because that scene really changed my moral alignment.

Goes on to researching forbidden magic after being blinded by hate and anger

I like your way of thinking. :smirk:

Besides, ruling from the shadows is way better than actually being king. Yet at the same time, if I find Marxus too incompetent to rule, I won’t have any qualms about taking the crown from him… by any means necessary.

That Sophia easter egg… I wonder how she and the MC’s mother would get along.

@Sophia, im off my suspension so I can tell you some scenes for RO’s.
Princess Sopia: Possibly the night of your wedding, a chance to talk to her/discuss your feelings about the whole affair. Maybe even try to warm her heart up to you. Or the next day take a walk or trip to some sort of “honeymoon” destination and talk there.

Melissa: Either take a walk through the garden (she loves flowers) and talk to her about either her marraige to Marxus or your marraige to Sophia. Maybe give a goodbye kiss or plan to meet up with her later.

Warming princes Sophia’s heart seems like a nice thing and maybe we’ll end up cuddled and she’ll say - I do accept you as my husband - and we spend whole night in the arms of each other

Ah that’s a lovely thought but I know sophia won’t let us get to her that easily so here’s to hoping.

@Sophia… the drawings of the princess and Melissa… is Princess Sophia what… you look like?

Oh god thats exactly what I was thinking… apparently she isn’t THAT easy though so, idk.

You voiced my thoughts.

I also have similar plan as @Harroc, my mc while have faith for Marxus to be a good king, but he can’t trust his brother fully at role that big.

Since why after that heavy throne, if you can just pull the strings from the shadow?

I won’t go that far. Perhaps making him a puppet that do nothing but sitting on the throne. That’s what always happen with warrior kings: they are good tacticians but poor politicians. Marxus has, I think, the same problem. So far he has been shown to be attracted to pretty women and to be emotional.

Those traits are certainly not good for a king, especially the former. If he has a poor marriage and there’s no war, he might end up like a Robert Baratheon: looking for whores and basically doing nothing since he’s in over his head.

King Andus is good in both war and politics, but he’s the opposite of Marxus: not emotional enough, pretending to fear nothing (which means arrogance, the worst trait a ruler can have) and relying solely on his position to influence.

In the last update, if our main stat is combat or intelligence we’re like our father, but if it’s charisma we’re like our mother, showing he’s more feared than liked which is the other worse quality for a ruler; if you are liked, you’ll always find allies but feared… Well just look at how Stalin died.

Queen Victoria is too much focused on ambition and looks like Cersei 2.0. Give her power and she’ll flaunt it everywhere.
