I think your explanation describes a person who lacks empathy and who is self-centered, but Marxus is not a hypocrite because of that. In order for a person to be a hypocrite there needs to be some kind of contradiction in what he says or/and acts.
For example. If Marxus was going around saying that we should sympathise with people who can’t control their feelings for another and then ends up hating the MC because he cannot control his feelings for Melissa, he is being a hypocrite. In other words, you are not practising what you preach.
I hope this clears things up. Not that I care much about Marxus, I do plan on killing him for the throne anyway.
Let us not forget that Marxus has the support of the most powerful Duke in the kingdom, Melissa’s father. Besides, Marxus still has some legitimate claim to the throne since the king has favoured him even if his mother was a concubine. Why risk a civil war when you could easily poison Marxus and blame it on some poor innocent soul? Besides, you do not want history to remember you as a usurper.

@Sophia What are each of the character’s strengths? Like can princess @Sophia help us with magic? Are you comparing your characters appearance wise or personality?
I am still divided between Team Power (especially if i can unite both kingdoms) and Melissa. I am going to kill my “father” and the jerk called Marxus if given the chance, that’s for sure.
Actually, i want to kill them now, but poison isn’t painful enough. Please add an option to make them beg for mercy while i burn everything dear to them
@Sophia if it ain’t too much work on you as the creator wouldn’t it make sense that you’re choices thus far affect your initial relationship with Sophia? I mean I’m sure she’s heard a thing or 2 about you so like maybe if your morale alignment and top stats are what she likes and approved of then your relationship can start either higher or lower as she’s more or less accepting of you based off what little she knows of you
My first character is going to be a seething ball of rage and hate.
He loathes his brother and plans to behead him while telling him quite bluntly that if he had simply been an older brother and protected him that one time when he really needed him, he would have likely been his loyal younger brother till the very end (he never wanted the throne to begin with).
He loathes his father and plans to behead him while pointing out that Lucraex would never have become so strong and capable of conquering Darvis if he hadn’t sent his very intelligent son to that kingdom where he promptly served Princess Sophia loyally as an adviser, administrator and friend.
He loathes Melissa for telling him a story about a Princess who ran away to be with a peasant boy yet wasn’t willing or able to do the same for him.
He loathes his mother for using him as some political chip in a hidden war with his father; and
He loathes himself for not being able to protect himself or his dream of a happy peaceful life with Melissa.
My character is actually quite delighted to go to Lucraex because it means he can get out of Darvis and he sees it as his perfect revenge to devote his life into making Lucraex stronger and more prosperous than Darvis (he’s actually become rather naively Pro-Lucraex, reasoning that the Darvis royal family is so corrupt that Lucraex deserves to win any future war). He actually sympathizes quite a bit with Sophia and given that he hates himself more than she ever could, he likely won’t take too much offense from her coldness.
@Lucienz1now it seems a little unfair to loath Melissa cause she isn’t allowed to do something she wanted to do. She loved the MC and wanted to marry him but was forced to do otherwise. That’s why she cried before the wedding and covered her face when the king announced her wedding to Marcus. I mean if you wanna loath her go ahead just have a legit reason
I (and by extension, my MC) never hated Melissa. I would probably view her as friend material. She just wasn’t my first choice as a RO, ever. I prefer the overarching story of conditioned, impersonal hatred turning into friendship (over time and acquaintance) and ultimately, into love.
Oh he recognizes that, I’m sure he understands deep down that he’s being deeply unfair to her but honestly it happened when he was young and fifteen and on his birthday. He probably has bad feelings towards everything from his home kingdom.
His feelings towards Melissa have an element of self hatred because he likely wishes he himself was brave enough to have asked her to run away with him. But in the end neither him nor her were brave enough to make that step themselves. There’s a tinge of, “if we really loved each other, one of us would have grabbed the other and just ran. In the end, we only played at love.”

Affection with a hint of apprehension. Given his dream is to serve his wife loyally and make her country so strong that a peace treaty doesn’t make sense for her family he recognizes he’ll likely end up killing his father figure in a battle and Javier’s skill is a threat to his adopted kingdom.
If Javier rises against my first mc he’s fucked. He loved Javi way too much a d honestly couldn’t hope to beat him in a swordfight. He mains brains and seconds charisma
I invested everything into having a character that truly loved Melissa and then you give her to my brother who my character actually liked and cared for.
