I think you are missing my point or perhaps we hold different standards in terms of relationships. (I am inclined to the latter.)
My theory implies that they probably have tasted that happiness to some extent in the terms of having a loving relationship grow between two people, whether they framed it in terms of a romance or not. (The MC could because he “knew” who she was intended for him.)
The only act that they have not “tasted” from each other is sex. Sex is not the grand pinnacle of the relationship. Relationships built totally on sexual chemistry will not last long.
However, we will continue in the story. Mel is not just dealing with the “what might have been.” She is also dealing with the “what is right now.” For two years she has been married to the brother of the man she loves most. She sees him around the castle, she sees him at meals. The flame for MC has not gone out (case in point, balcony scene) and she is trying to figure out where he is. He can either say he never stopped loving her either (giving her hope, unfortunately in the form of an eventual affair), he can try to be diplomatic or he can crush her feelings (another emotional blow to the mental state.)
Life picks back up again but now, not only are you not with your love, some other woman has taken your place and she doesn’t even want to be there. Adding fuel, anger or even stoking some twisted passion. (Many killings are done through the latter emotion.)
In the grand scheme of things, we still don’t know exactly and until the next update it is all pointless conjecture.

i can understand your points to some extent, and think your not wrong at all, but i did refer what is more like to make a person go crazy, of course there is people who will go crazy for less than others… but oh well
i refer to happiness as a couple in love, not as 2 friends that may have feelings for each other…
never did i implied sex, there is plenty platonic love ( i myself did have one when i was young and i can tell you i was pretty happy with just being together, holding hands, kissing and telling how much we loved each other…)
agree, but know think if she was dealing with " how happy she was when she hold each other hands, kiss and more moments that couples do" ( not just having conversations as they did in the past…)
i can agree that seeing sophia being all happy and lovey dovey can make an impact to her, but it will make more impact if she sees what the mc did with her before someone breaked them apart.

Ah, I see. Clithus reminds me a little of Brienne of Tarth, since she’s a woman in my playthrough. Waaait, if all them were you at some point does that mean you were hardcore jealous at some point? O.O
No. Melissa represents my naive self before, but then something happened that ruined my childhood life and that almost made me crazy. Jealousy in her part was me when I wanted what others had before.

Ha, awesome. I can’t imagine Melissa having much to be jealous about, though. At most the MC will have kissed Sophia at their wedding, since she openly said that she hated him. Silly Melissa, being so jealous is for yanderes xDD
