What I was asking for a friend I am loyal to the Church of Sophia. The on true romance… definitely…

As long as Marxus treats her well and genuine feelings and trust are involved on both their ends, Arlan would give his blessings to them eventually.
But Melissa had been so distant with him after her marriage to his brother and Marxus seemed equally as distant as her with him after the marriage, so Arlan’s not really sure where his bond with the two of them stands at this point in time.
I don’t think status should be the driving force of what makes someone worthy of another’s feelings. It should be a genuine bond of love and affection for one another, no matter what their status.
Marxus could be the unrivaled future King of Darvis and have slayed two dragon with his bare feet, but if a genuine bond of trust and affection between him and Melissa doesn’t exist, then status means very little in the end.
It’s like saying the main reason the Second Prince’s potential ROs started falling for him because they remembered that he is a prince who can potentially get the throne himself rather than because of his personality or the fact he has come to develop a bond with them. It just doesn’t really sound right. 
For some people, cutting their hair signifies them going through a change in their life.
I like to think that Arlan started with long hair as a child (like really long; reached pretty low on his back even with his ponytail), but the during the night after Melissa was married to his brother, he cut his ponytail as a mark of him letting go of his innocence and taking his first honest steps into become a adult who can embrace both the good and bad life has to offer while continuing to move forward.
Now I love the idea of it also being his first mark of rebellion and one of the things the sets him apart from his father and brother.

You cant do this. I modeled my characters looks of Jaime Lannister, but with short hair. Im always going to imagine my MC as Jaime Lannister no matter what Marxus looks like.
That is three people hating him because of ponytail
I don’t see why having a ponytail would be such a big deal. 
But to each their own.

I could never imagine myself with long hair (stuff is way too hot!) That said, I know shoulder-length hair was a thing with men back in that time so I can’t complain too much. I draw the line at braiding and brushing my hair along with my RO.
I also need to say this about Marxus. HE didn’t steal Melissa. Your dad stole Melissa from you and handed him to Marxus. Unless Queen @Sophia tells us otherwise, Marxus must be considered the innocent party until proven guilty. (Besides, he took the hit for his bro so we can get Sophia, who is CLEARLY the better option. Dissident opinions are invited to a bonfire behind the Church of Sophia.)

It is true; King Andus was the one who made the decision to have Melissa marry Marxus. It should also be noted that due to the fact that the Queen was implied to have talked to him in order to convince him to engage Melissa with the Second Prince, he made that decision VERY likely knowing that his youngest son (possibly) had feelings of love for Melissa. So when it comes down to it, King Andus is the main person to blame for that moment; Marxus didn’t even seem to know he was going to end up with the girl who was hanging out with his little brother.
It should also be noted that technically Melissa wasn’t officially engaged to the Second Prince to begin with; it was stated that she would be promised to one Andus’ sons when she came of age. It was just that the Queen was clearly trying to do everything in her power to somehow get Melissa engaged to her son rather than to Marxus, which was ultimately in vain. The King’s word is final and even Melissa’s father expressed great doubt that the Queen would be able to convince Andus to make that type of arrangement, since the man held no love for her (and probably has even less love for his youngest son).
