So far what I can gather from Prince Marxus is that he is considered the favorite child of the King for a few reasons. Not only is he the oldest, but also the one who takes on the role of soldier and warrior with more initiative. However I’m not sure how accurately I can judge that trait in comparison to the MC since mine is more inclined to scholar and mage traits. Generally he also appears to be quite kind and patient, never raising his voice or becoming particularly irritable towards the MC. Now I’m not sure if this is a coding error, but even the MC outright telling Marxus he hates him simply results in Marxus remarking he seems to be distant. At most I would say the clearest sign of impatience would be him flinching his eye I believe it was if the MC complains about him not buying a more expensive gift, most likely since he holds more value in sentimentality. Regarding his relationship with Melissa due to his generally kind nature I assume he treats her well, and is trying to be understanding towards her still having feelings towards the MC according to the route the story I have played has gone so far. Then again, never judge a book by its cover and I am going off how he treats his younger brother after all. If he was looking for Melissa at the party this could indicate him struggling with handling her lingering feelings for the MC or she is generally afraid of him since a nature as a warrior can also prove violent. This all may be a combination of favoritism and encouragement of the king, since my theory is that he married him off to Melissa since her family is the more friendly noble house and she tends to fit the majority of what would have been considered the standards of a wife at the time. While intentionally keeping the MC unmarried until a more politically beneficial marriage came up. Combined with the queen constantly treating him with disdain since she clearly wants her son on the throne instead. Thus he may also be playing a political game trying to be friendly towards his younger brother in order to establish a friendly, brotherly bond with him to disillusion him from whatever the queen may have planned for him.
Ah, while that is true, you didn’t take into account their respective societal stature, Sophia is a princess from a foreign family that only has two other members left (her cousin Prince Vince and her grandfather King Elyon IV) while Melissa (pre-wedding) is only a duke’s daughter with six other family members to think about (her parents and her four older brother).
Taking that into account, it seems obvious that Sophia will suffer less from the backlash that will happen were Melissa to do the same, Sophia’s family reside beyond the reaches of the von Hyus, while Melissa’s is a duchy inside the kingdom of Darvis.
Not to note just how the wedding happens, Sophia’s was an arranged one, while Melissa’s is literally a king’s decree infront of the other noble houses, to reject it is to commit societal suicide not to mention the possible repercussion from the king.
When we consider that the marriage was Lucraex’s idea and that Lucraex has just recently won a war against Darvis, that further reduce the backlash she’ll receive were she to act impudent and freely express her mind in Darius’s territory. If it were the Darius that are winning the war and Darius demanded/Lucraex offered her hand in marriage, I bet she’ll sing a different tune.
Personality wise, I don’t think Melissa has the heart to condemn her family by selfishly rejecting the marriage and running away, seeing that she’s a kind and caring person. Not to mention that no one is powerful enough to go against the king’s decree, not mother, not brother, not Javier, not other duke, and certainly not us, we’re just the second prince, a back-up in case something happened to the crown prince.

But now that you talk about that for me that war that lost the king andus must be a very large with many losses whether of men or territory … I know that maybe he does not love us much but I do not think he wanted another treaty Of peace … whatever the reason had to be a very powerful or one so shameful that andus did not want his people to see and covered with the wedding

If Sophia rejects the marriage she can still suffer consequences on behalf of her own family. I doubt the Kingdoms are going to tolerate an ongoing war for much longer because they couldn’t get a peaceful truce. Although it is true that Melissa is not selfish her actions still contribute to her submissive and passive nature. I state this due to believing that if an individual truly desires something then they will pursue it at all costs. Family, society, social norms and anything else be damned.
