I don’t mind a lone wolf character if the backstory is such that it makes sense for the MC to self isolate, but otherwise I prefer already being a part of the group. I like when MC has prestablished relationships, it makes them feel more apart of the world to me. And I always feel awkward trying to integrate my MC into a group of people who already know each other.
Killing off a project is already incredibly hard, and I’m sorry you were in a position where you had to make that choice.
Finally getting close to settling on the goals for launch content for the first WiP build of The Frontier!
It’s looking like the following will be ready to go and included:
Experience full blown character creation, with 1 of 3 lifepaths currently available (The Scrapling). (Fully implemented).
Explore Turnspire Station, located in the Epsilon System, with a full travel and navigation system allowing you to explore the Dockline, Trakspan Industrial District, Wingspan Commercial District, and the Stacks. (Implementation in progress. Travel system complete, Trakspan Industrial District initial sequences complete, Wingspan Commercial District in Progress.)
Meet the first of two RO’s (one male, one female) and go on a hangout with each! (Female RO 60% implemented, hangout is currently in progress. Male RO is currently in early stages.)
Settle into apartment 1142 in the East Wing of the Stacks, where you’ll settle into a housing system that includes:
The ability to sleep and shower to regenerate health and energy. It’s truly up to station management and the will of the universe of how well you’ll find yourself restored (based on 1 of 3 rolled options for recovery!) (Implemented)
Settle down and make some food, have a drink, enjoy yourself. (Implemented)
Browse the Net as you delve into Turnspire’s local digital hub. (Partially Implemented)

View the roadmap for future updates right from in-game! (Not yet implemented)
And more to come!
I am super excited for how fast things are coming together. So much of the above is already implemented or being implemented, and I am growing increasingly confident of a late October/Early November 2025 release date for WIP build one with a minimum of 200k words.
Above all, there’s going to be plenty for everyone to delve into in the Frontier, and I am super excited to share it with you all!
I have been reworking the currency in my IF and I am laughing at my past self who thought this would be an easy “search function and change words” kind of fix. Why does money have to be so… integral? If only to inconvenience me. I am shaking my fist at… idk, capitalism and clouds, probably.
Finally, I’m making some progress. I’ve made a decision to have some matches coincide, which has helped streamline the story in my head. This has also led to a character with a bit part, a young orphan girl who guides you to your tent to get a bigger role and an official name, Matilda (Mattie to her friends).
I think it’s difficult because after a long time of not writing either sparsely or consistently I believe it does a number on your confidence which has a negative effect on what you start to write which loops back to lowering your confidence and it is easy to get stuck in a loop
How I’ve gotten past this previously is to set myself an actual easy goal to accomplish each day something like 500 words a day and if you I get to a point where you can’t get past a scene just drop a [ToDo - summary] then move on to the next one.
Think of it like rolling downhill on bumpy ground. When the habit is strong, you’re rolling fast enough that bumps may slow you occasionally but don’t stop you. Many you don’t even notice. Once you stop though, first you have to kick the ball to start rolling again (which takes energy). But all those minor bumps you could ignore before are suddenly big problems. Too many minor ones in a row or a single major one and you’re at a standstill again.
The only way to build up momentum again is to keep kicking until you’re cruising again. But chasing after the habit and deliberately kicking it along takes energy, and frustrating energy at that since you hadn’t needed to before.
Of course, you can also build up momentum by doing what you can to smooth out future obstacles so that you’ve less in your way to cause issues.
man, I tried planning a resource management game, and it was very hard
I was learning and trying to improve from “Tale of Kingdom: The Swamp Castle” trying to improve unit variations, more options during war, more buildings to build on the castle, more resources to manage, but dang it was hard to balance them all
in the end, I had to scrap that idea due to my limited knowledge and now planning for something simpler, wish me luck guys
Have you heard about sportive people who get a hard come back after a long period without practice?
Same thing, just with brain instead of muscles, I’ve lived the same situation for a while.
I’d say, make it a choice, we are talking about an IF right? If I had to choose, solo. This makes the introduction of the characters easier to do since the character and reader are being introduced to them at the same time.
I’d like to see an established hero being forced to join forces with other heroes because of a threat they can’t address alone. This is a trope of hero stories, but normally, the threat is external to the planet or a single enemy. I think a villain team conspiracy forcing heroes to unite isn’t done enough. Like, what if the formation of the Justice League was the Legion of Doom plotting something?
This is how I’d do it, if I started over with Dawn of Heroes.
For me it’s generally because I start psyching myself out over the quality (that, and the general rust that builds up after not exercising that part of my brain for a while). Something I’ve found really helpful when my brain falls out of the writing groove is intentionally writing a couple paragraphs of absolute nonsense. No expectations, no direction, just whatever words happen to fall out of my brain. After a few paragraphs of that I generally find that it’s easier to focus on what I actually meant to work on when I sat down to write.
