Jolly Good: Cakes and Ale Free-for-All Discussion Thread Where Spoilers May Appear

There’s a hidden variable that tracks Tabby’s standing in the club. Off the top of my head, I think you can increase it by improving the article and then telling Ernie & co that she helped write it. I thiink another way to boost it up is by getting her to give money to the club in Chapter 4.

But, besides, I think one surefire way to guarantee that she joins is by having her be your vice-president. And to do that, you need to have enough Observe (can’t remember the check off the top of my head, sorry) to hear her snooping around before the big conference in Chapter 7. After that you can invite her in and have her attend with you.

But I think having Tabby join as a full-fledged member is something you can’t do fully, I’m guessing it might be something that’ll pop up in the sequel.

hello!!! sorry but i’ve been trying to find this specific passage in tally ho / jolly good (forgot which) as an example for a lit assignment i’m doing: something about the typical description of kissing someone (eucalyptus and cherry) sounds more like a commercial for sore throat??? i’m not sure if i hallucinated this but hopefully someone can verify it ( ა ˶・ ͜ʖ・˶)ა thank you!

Kissing Fitzie during that penultimate chapter where you balance-act the opera, the inter-club showdown, and Tabby’s crime-for-a-cause? Not sure if it’s location-specific. Also not sure if it’s that scene, could be the cab.

The passage is from kissing Fitzie in the cab (Cakes and Ale, Chapter 5):

In narratives, so frequently a kiss is described in fanciful flavored tones. You know the sort of purple prose: “his kiss had the scent of dark, sweet cherries drizzled with honey” or “her kiss had the sharp taste of peppermint and eucalyptus” making the act of kissing sound more than a bit like an advert for throat lozenges. No, this kiss did not have a discernible flavor. Heat, though—that you sense—heat and hunger and the mad desire to get as close to you as possible, to merge with you for a moment, and then—like a light switch being toggled, the moment is over as quickly as it began.

AHHH thank you both!!! :DDD

Seeing Tea and Scones progress got me poking around Cakes and Ale again, so here are a few bugs that still remain after all this time:
In Chapter 3, if you kiss Vyv, setting vyv_closet is skipped, meaning when Fitzie or Pilcrow approach you, there’s no mention that you’re in the closet.
In Chapter 4, you don’t get any money when Chum agrees to give money for club debt (missing cashraise).
In Chapter 5, Fitzie’s nemesis dialogue is wrong. Right now, nemesis is set if both Rory-Frank and Figs-Mopsie are married. This has been reported before, but no one seems to have noticed.
In Chapter 6, you lose no time traveling from the news office to another location after composing the article.
In Chapter 7, if you tell Ernie about the spy and forgive him, the option “I suppose you are right, Pilcrow. I will tell Ernie.” is still available.

And some minor things:
If you choose to ask relatives for money for club debt, there’s only one option to get that money, making this substantially worse than the other ones.
There’s a tabbycrush_childhood variable touched in chapter 4 but not chapter 1.
The option “I eat my caviar and blini politely and engage in conversation, a more challenging task.” only gives dinescore %+10, same as the easier one.
The last calls seem to be early. You have one more timeslot after last call where a round is still available.
When lecturing Parsnip, there’s a check for rep_matilda = 55 that should be rep_matilda >= 55.
If your article is only small edits, you actually get more maluses with edit score in the 35-44 range than the below 35 range.
Having good relations with Valentine has special dialogue when counting votes, but doesn’t actually give you any extra support.
The Tally Ho summary will say Mopsie was permitted to wed, even if she actually eloped.
There’s a pianist variable that seems like it’d be in the interesting facts section.

There are other minor bugs I know of, but I will stop here for now. At this point, any fixes will just be rolled out with the update that adds save uploading, right?

Thanks for all of these. I shall attend to them at once (after chapter seven is written) and fire my manservant who was responsible for such shoddy work. I am sure there are another ten thousand or so little annoying bugs lurking, but it feels good to get closer to bug-free, or, at the very least, add a bunch of new and exciting bugs, just for variety’s sake.

Just for interest, this one, at least, is all right. The additional votes are (for some weird reason known only to me four years ago) tucked up before the flavor text. If you end up having only, say, a 51 with Valentine, then you still get the votes, but not the flavor text.

Which is weird. I should fix that.

On the “Have you tried…” page, it mentions that you can meet Haze at the opera. Does anyone have any tips on how to bring this about?

How does one break the diving record twice in jolly good?

Was replaying Cakes and Ale and is this written correctly? Shouldn’t be take care of matters?

Thank you! Fixing that now. It’ll go into the next batch of fixes (which will get sent in not immediately, but eventually!)

@Gower It really means the world to me that you’re advertising this for me. I hope to see some of you there tomorrow!

Also, before I forget. @Gower there has been a criminal lack of the ability to pet the various animals we encounter in your games. Did you think that you could get away with mentioning the large amount of dogs in the Rowdy Roustabout club without giving us the ability to pet one? Or the Noble Gass’s mascot blackbird? Or heck, even the eels in the crate. I’d be willing to pet an eel.
This problem was a thing in Tally Ho as well, with the inability to pet the peafoul, hunting dogs or even the horse we ride!
I’m a simple woman, Kreg. You tell me there’s an animal and I will take it as a deep and personal offense if you do not allow me to interact with it (on the animal’s terms of course) for at least two hours./j
I hope to see this problem remedied in Tea and Scones.
