Infamous if (band wip) chap 3 (457k wrds) released (9/08/2024)

It may be similiar to Seven’s rel. It seems unmoving, then I look away and he’s suddenly 55 percent despite starting with twenty. But Loved definitely needs an opposite pair with Hated, we’re given plenty of options to play the villain that don’t affect… much.

Born Star apparently moves, here’s Anna.

I haven’t replayed since the chapter came out on Patreon, when it was still pretty bugged, so this is definitely a possibility. It does move, though. It honestly just might be the choices we’re making.

It certainly sounded that way to me. Seven was the one to say “we’re voting” and MC was all like “wha? Voting on what?” So it seems as if Seven already knew about the vote before anyone told MC anything. Again, makes it seem to me kind of like the vote was being used as a loyalty test by Seven, but one where even if you pass, you fail. Also, I wonder if the vote is tied to whatever happened when the band auditioned for the Heavenly Isle subsidiary. Seven throws it in MC’s face that now MC has their “perfect band,” but having voted to keep Seven in as co-lead, I don’t see any reasoning for that unless Seven was going around talking to everyone but MC (all of MC’s band members including Seven seem to have done this habitually, so no, Seven does not get out of the criticism levied at the band with me) and expecting MC to somehow know what was going on. Clearly someone else was speaking for MC and none of MC’s so-called friends gave enough of a shit to speak to them directly about it.

Yeah, looks that way to me too.

Is Pretty Reckless who went home first for you? For me it was the EDM Band (Young and Wasted?) and they didn’t throw me to the wolves. But I told them to keep trying and that their chance would come rather than ignore them as they were leaving or give them another phony hug like the other bands were doing.

Yes, JBento, yes he does. But hey, you asked for it, you got it, right? Enjoy your space.

I am honestly trying to play MC as structured and consistent as possible, as I think that would be a product of their serial abandonment by every adult in their life. MC is extremely regimented in my head. I’m also playing them as a workaholic because that’s what every adult (up to and including Orion) in their life has been, it’s all they’ve ever really seen of adulthood. So they chose to write for UW because UW really needs the help, and because Seven asked for space/as little interaction as possible. Several times now. (So of course the band drags you over to the bus to ambush them.)

Yeah, I’d love to have an option to make the band go to Seven themselves, given that Seven specifically asked me to stay away from them (before proceeding to not stay away from me.)

Has anyone else been playing Nice with Cory? Did you get three choices for the current challenge or only UW or SV? I work hard to get Cory on side because I don’t want production to screw me over more than they’re going to do anyway, and she tried to sneak MIA in for one of my choices. Is that universal, or is that from being nice to Cory and the other staff?

Same. Did you defend her? Because that made the whole “Viktor almost making nice” conversation later even more bizarre and creepy.

Yeah, Young and Reckless went home and shat on me. I find it hard to remember names that are so similar to real-life counterparts in some cases. I didn’t even do anything, I just stood there. Together with Blake, who also just stood there. Where’s an article on their sorry ass?

His replies kind of indicate he didn’t want that shit and still has far more resentment towards the band if you don’t deliberately piss him off like Anna does daily. It doesn’t really mesh reactions-wise with him knowing about the vote, yet first blaming MC, then leaving the band, and then, three years in the seethe chamber later, he likes MC more than the band and seems to enjoy making the band squirm specifically.

I need to check it on Anna.

Oh god, Seven does TIKTOK TRENDS?! I swear if I read the words “I feel like an orange” I am setting them on fire.

I can’t remember, was the “one lead singer” question already on the table for them at this point? My assumption was that it was but they were probably avoiding it, so Sev’s comment was more like “Oh, I see… we’re voting on this.” But my memory’s not perfect here and maybe I’m filling in some details where there were none.

Thanks, I just meant the subject of the vote.

So, like, if the band had already been thinking about narrowing down their leads to one, but stalling and whispering behind the current co-leads backs about it, I’d have taken Sev’s reaction as an acknowledgement of what’s happening rather than an admission of knowing it was happening in advance.

Well, I know that I certainly have more than enough :face_with_raised_eyebrow: But again, I think these guys are just regular cowards.

Vote apparently happened before the audition and they left Sev to stew in it for several weeks. Christ, even autistic people have better emotional knowledge.

Not to mention it also had apparently happened before the Heavenly Isle subsid audition, label Seven and MC both idolised and wanted to join. Apparently Seven sang as back-up during that process, as text seems to indicate.

Almost makes me wonder if it was both the band and Seven trying to speak for the MC, with Seven saying if they try doing this, MC will quit, while the band was like, “naw, they’ll be fine with it and vote with us!”. Meanwhile, MC is just sitting around being clueless. Even when the MC votes against moving Seven to backup, they didn’t do what Seven thought they would do (because Seven was basing it on what they would do in the MC’s shoes), which is why Seven hates the MC more than the band.

This was the stupidest move the band could make. Let MC sing a solo if that’s what they thought was better, but don’t just ditch Seven. What a bunch of assholes.

This is pretty much how all three of mine are, at the moment. They differ in how they deal with people and project themselves, but all have this “work until I’m dead” mentality, and are perfectionists (all three thought they could’ve done better on the audition and, after being told that was the best they sounded, were perturbed and wanted to go practice more).

One of my MCs is a total hardass, completely detached (from everyone, not just the band), and only shows signs of life around fans. Love from fans is like the only love she gets, so she’s going to encourage that as much as possible. She doesn’t realize she’s doing it, though. Another one is overly nice in an effort to try to make the world not hate her so much, but she’s growing a spine (she’s romancing G). The third is kind of middle of the road–all about work, ignores the drama, tries to avoid drama, but has zero patience for bullshit (O-mancer). She can be nice or she can cut your head off before you realized she had a sword. Just depends on how you catch her at the moment.

Yep. Two of my MC’s got a third choice. I thought the game was broken when the other didn’t get it. Cory offered Triple’s band as an option, but Viktor went insane and made her take it back.

It feels like writing wants to blame a lot of stuff on Seven’s moodwings, but they strike me as just mentally ill. They feel like unmedicated bpd.

And yeeeep, the text with visiting Seven together with band is not affected by rel value, even if it’s 18% and lower than what you typically start with. Kind of funny that even in this case Seven hates the band more than they hate MC.

And Loved? I’ve found only one opportunity to both gain and lose it.

Lol, that was so awkward. All I could think the whole time was “it’s probably fine because I’ve actually been nice to Sev this whole time… no thanks to any of you guys. But sure, I’ll go grovel.”

I sort of wish there were more ways of interacting with this scene. Like, choosing not to “beg for mercy” because it didn’t feel like they’d really need it. None of the narration I can recall made me think the MC had any real reason not to trust Sev, I guess. At least you could sort of tell them that, but it felt like I had to banana around a lot of other, very different options.

I have for sure (I genuinely like her, lol) and she did offer up a third option but Viktor didn’t allow it. I have… not been playing quite as nice with him, but I’m not sure why that happened.

That would probably warrant a whole different branch of diverging consequences, so I don’t know… maybe that wasn’t an appealing thing to add? The “people pleaser” thing does work as a sort-of explanation, though probably not for everyone.

I also wonder how much of a balancing act the choices and consequences are here–I don’t think it’s wise to give us too many opportunities to self-destruct the MC’s band so early, lol. I think they’d lose it if MC chose SV and refused to make them play nice. The band is very full of shit, lol.

Haha, why do I feel like that would guarantee Sev writes something mean?

For anyone wondering about the Born Star stat, it only currently shows up in three places. Twice in the prologue (+bornstar and -bornstar) and once in Ch. 4, where it going up is contingent on MC playing into a villain edit, so I don’t think there are too many opportunities to raise it right at this moment.

I also only found one just from looking at the code, but there might be a few that I’m missing some? I’d have to replay it.

It also is incredibly strange for MC to not raise the fact Seven isn’t known to screw people over for clout. It would immediately cut out the main reasoning for begging him for mercy, and… why not give an option to straight up refuse asking, like Seven did with Blake? Is it another supposed people pleaser thing? Is MC afraid his friends would get even bitchier and more ballistic over that?

Yeah, that was the bit pre-rewrite (don’t know if it’ll be the same now) where I went from “giving Seven space” to “avoiding them because nobody should have to put up with THAT, and I’m DEFINITELY not going to.”

I’m not invested in Seven’s character because, unless something severely changed in the rewrite, they have all the charisma of an empty faded-out carboard cereal box.

My contributions to the world are truly unmatched. :face_with_monocle:

Honestly, I’m not that invested in Seven’s character (how they’re written isn’t really my thing), but I’m just killing the situation with kindness because… well, that’s just the character I’m playing. In reality I wouldn’t go near them, haha.

Lol, I know how you feel. You are the reason whenever I hear the word “nothingburger” in some other context, I still think of Seven.

dealing with seven, blake, and the band annoys me irl so my heart goes out to every mc because i couldn’t bear it. my mc is about ready to implode perhaps and it’s probably literally just orion keeping her sane at this point, and only just barely. but everything with them, and the show, and the parents, etc etc is really enough that if the band keeps being so annoying and uncommunicative and kinda disrespectful… :grimacing: i think that even with viktor being a scary freak my mc could be willing to make a Business Decision herself if there ends up being an outcome where he wants to maybe repeat history? and just sign the mc without the band. at the very least she’s keeping in mind his talking about being on the hunt for artists and she’s playing nice to remain on his “good” side… (but god he is so creepy it freaks me out :skull:)

Speaking of Blake, this is the first chapter that Blake has felt like a character with actual malice. Like, logically I know they’re mad and on the show to expose MC’s (G’s) cheating ways, but wow, they’re actually mad at MC. Not in a playful rivalry way, but they wanna take you down, oof. I’m sorry, bestie! No one purposefully cheated, please stop being mean 2 me

Oh, no, yeah. I thought Blake and my MC were cool and then when I was testing the different routes, he made my MC sing a song about how they’re still in love with their ex. Thankfully, my MC has no shame, but wow, low blow, Blake, you fucking hypocrite. Now I am not gonna write a nice song for UWB anymore :face_with_steam_from_nose:

But yeah, they tore into G. It hits that little bit harder in conjunction with the pool scene and seeing how truly insecure G is. It’s juicy, though. It’s very, very juicy. So sorry to G, but I would be tuned in for every episode, soda and popcorn in hand.

I’m just rubbing my hands together over Blake playing that old demo (or whatever it was). Loved that.

Blake and my MC are about as chill as they probably can be, so I mostly just felt he was annoying my character for the benefit of the show, but I feel like that guy went for the jugular with Griffin, lol.

:joy::joy: Oh noooo~ Very mean, yes. I’m so sorry! Was that because you had romance points with Sev? Blake’s very committed to the bit, clearly.

I wish G made me less tired, lol. I peaced from that scene asap because I was just so tired on behalf of my MC. This poor guy cannot be what you need, my dude. He’s got enough going on.

Don’t mind me, just using this as storage for bugs and inconsistencies and stuff:

Prologue Stuff

Definitely some G dialogue missing there:

This is not an answer to the question G asks:

Whose arm? This should probably be something like “[…] grabs the other girl’s arm[…]”

“hers”

I never met Dakota in this playthrough.

Again, never met Dakota.

That’s the whole of the Prologue. Anyone know how I can get it to Amy?

Send it to her Tumblr, I think? I’m pretty sure she said that somewhere, because she’s more active there than here.
