What is the general process for beta-testing a game?

Hello! I’ve kind of been dreading the beta-testing part of the creation process, and I’m not really sure how to get started. In my poking around I found the Beta Testing category, but I was hoping to get some advice on best practice so I don’t do it wrong. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
