Is this your theory,right ?

I don’t think you will be able to do that, since your whole legitimacy comes from you bring Sobik’s child

Imagine a Usurper that changes their surname and crowns themselves instead of letting the Archbishop do it.

Um. If you write this fanfic, I want to read it! I love this idea.

Also, don’t you love shower thoughts? I come up with the best stuff in the shower, then forget most of it by the time I get back in front of my laptop, lol. I need a voice recorder in there…

Ugh, been trying for an hour at beating the enemy in the final battle. My marshal is based on Weapons, and the retinue is trained in regimentation and formation. I got 11 points in levies, 2,52 light cavalry, 9,72 in heavy cavalry, 2,69 archers, 5 rangers and 12 in the retinue.

No matter what I do I end up in a stalemate or defeat. I did not take the artillery in the previous battle, should I have went for that? Any tips on how to win? I want to win the fight with my weapons centric marshal, but I dont know how to, tried resetting and going from the start (my first attempt i had regimentation twice, and had some less forces).

My advice would be to use your cavalry to intercept/attack the enemy when given the chance, doing so should result in both groups of enemy cav being engaged in a battle. Use your retinue in the center with your rangers and archers in the back. Use your archers to deal with the enemy archers and then shift them to firing at your enemies infantry. For the final army choices, reinforce the line with people from the back and send your light cavalry to flank the enemies and attack.

Well …This is dark story.I don’t think It will have beautiful ending for every route .but I also don’t think It will have bad ending for every route too. And I think every route can have good ending even MC is villian.

I think Good ending or bad ending for MC depends on your choice (MC’s success).Even MC is villain, they also can achieve best ending in their way even they will struggle in process.(Well…except Author thrash this rout and let MC die in agony in book 2) or…Maybe loyalty in ending 2 in book 1,maybe bite your back in final ending in book2 ,Who knows, right?

Well …this is all my opinion

It also depends on who’s judging the best ending. For example, the mercenaries, Erisians, and ravens will likely love most endings of Book 2 for an Ending 3 Marshal.

@Sarinya_Pumma What I mean is that ā€œbest endingā€ and ā€œworst endingā€ is a matter of perspective. Many people on the thread, myself included, enjoy Ending 2–specifically the variant with strong Elya earning the total loyalty of the nobles after a decisive victory in the final battle against Rade–but Rade would consider it the worst ending possible. For the civilians of Kanton, Ending 3 (no matter who wins the battle for the throne) would shape up into the worst ending due to the extended civil unrest and prolonged war–but many people think it’s a good story and still play it (and it is a very good story. It is not the most logical course of action, and the reasons why have been explained upthread). It is not evil to want to play all paths of the game–if they have been written, they were made to be played. I never meant to call you evil.

Everything depends on Bacon :laughing: I don’t understand your example ,can you explain more?

Well … I am feeling you are telling I am evil people anyway. If I misunderstand I sorry you in advance

@Snowflower Oh…Okay, I’m sorry :pensive::pensive:.

Honestly i love all endings and by extension 3 beginnings for book 2nd bacon is great at writing i know he will write well , my only request is for him to not ā€œpunishā€ any routes like either ending 3 or 2 being guaranteed bad end/failures etc i wish he will write both good and bad endings for all 3 paths so to speak.

He’s indicated up above in the thread that it will be possible for the Usurper Marshal to win, it will just be appreciably harder than other paths.

And that is completely understandable , infact i expect it to be the hardest path of all given the circumstances.

Just finally purchased the book. Very disappointed that you say we can play a gay MC but no lesbian route at all. I would be annoyed that I spent money on the book but the story it self was brilliant though.

Its been explained before but second game will have f/f romance option from what i recall.

And even then, I doubt ā€œwinning the succession warā€ means ā€œeverything is sunshine and roses afterwards.ā€ He did love the idea of an achievement called King of the Ashes. But then again that makes sense—even Book 1 Ending 2 is a ā€œray-of-hopeā€ (well, several rays of hope) ending rather than a ā€œhappyā€ ending.

@Zaya27477 I think that Ending 3!Marshal is capable of learning politics and how to govern effectively, and isn’t always going to drive Kanton into the ground. If Elya can learn rulership and authority rapidly with the Marshal’s aid, I see no reason why the Marshal can’t, given guidance (now, finding a guide that isn’t going to stab them in the back is a much taller order, given how they acquired the throne). I don’t think that they start Ending 3 as an exemplar of political genius: they make the promise of the corrupt and possibly treacherous (and definitely untrustworthy) Archbishop Wrido to look into re-honoring them the linchpin of their claim—they aren’t thinking with their brain at that moment.

I don’t think ending 3 will always turn to’ King of Ashes 'Ending .It maybe can be ā€˜new era of Kantos’ ending.Ending 3 look like negative ending in book 1 but in book 2 It can achieve best ending like every route . It no need to antagonize it as evil route because everything depends on player’s choice. (And depends on Author )

Mostly ruler, who steal Thorne from successor, have better ending than rightful successor. If they know how to rule ,control and handle people .(ex.Empress Wu Zetian ,she steal throne from her third(?)son and mostly noble hate her a lot but she know how deal them ,become as Emperor and bring her country to Golden Era)Mc is very smart the same as Elya.they can learn to rule the same as hight leadership Elya learn to command army and war tactic.

In Ending 3 MC know how politics works.so it is good sigh that they can handle it in book 2, but yes It will difficult in process

And Again this novel is dark story .Maybe It mean It not have beautiful ending for every route.

Well…this is only my opinion.I don’t know how much choices will available to achieve it.I just hope Author will not punish us if we want be villian

@Snowflower

Why Marshall can’t ? True they have mental problem, but they can think something logic. They know they have to use Bishop to reclaim their throne. It’s prove at least they use their ā€˜brain’ to steal Elya’s Thorne and can rule even their mental is unstable or have overparanoid on their fellow. They can rule the same as Elya. And Elya isn’t better than Marshall, especially low leadership Elya. and MC maybe can recover their mentality in book2.

In Ending 3 Marshall fear Elya because People can change all time .Marshall fear that when Elya become queen.she will turn to be Sobik 2.0 and discard them when they are useless just Sobik did MC!Child. It’s deep trauma that MC try to repress time to time .And You can’t blame them for that and plus, Marshall’s Jealous though It turn to Marshall’s conclusion is discard Elya before Elya will discard them . Kill Elya before Elya will kill them . and they want excuse for giving courage them to steal Elya Throne. (In my opinion,Stealing Thorne maybe help Marshall’s mental recover a little because At least It’s first time, Marshal get what they want. They no need repress it anymore or pretend to not want it and they no need to blame themself as dishonored anymore. )

Base on your opinion I am thinking you have more bias on this ending 3 like mostly people . I think If I were in Marshall’s situation, I still choose steal Elya’s Throne.because It’s maybe only change can live without fear and live by my choice, not other’s choice. I don’t think I can fully trust Elya’s words or promise If I were Marshall .because Human (especially when Human involve with power or money) and Love is always unreliable things. You can’t put full trust in unreliable thing.except yourself.even You will lead yourself to destrustion.but at least that is your choice.and If I were Marshall.I quite confident I can rule better than Elya, even I have unstable mentality.

P.S It’s only my opinion.but I still insist Every route has best ending in their own way and Ending 3 in book 1,It always no need turn to King/Queen of Ashes. It can turn to best ending (as It can be)in book 2.And everything depend on your choice in book 2 and depend on Author

Fantastic story! And of course, thank you to all of the wonderful contributors who have provided guides for all the battles! I’ve done countless playthroughs of this game, and I’ve come to a few main conclusions.

  1. Tactics is OP, and I love it.

  2. Mira can die in a hole for all my Marshall cares, but they remain civil b/c Elya barely has any family left as it is.

  3. I love how much more pitiful/tragic Vedran as a character becomes when you have high respect (I always keep him alive even though I hated him in my first run due to low respect).

  4. Watching a warm and high-strength Elya deal with the Archbishop is wonderful to witness. So sweet and polite and absolutely vicious…

  5. I’m far too soft-hearted to go for a Bastard King/Queen ending, but I do have one theory regarding Ending 3 though.

I’m not sure if this has been brought up already in a previous post, but I believe that the conversation the Marshall has with a drunken Mira in Chapter 3 could be especially important in that route. Mira talks about how there was a man she loved back home in Loston and that she was planning to run away with him then. I wonder if a Bastard King Marshall will weaponize that information to claim that Mira and her former love had engaged in a sexual relationship before she left to marry Sobik, and they’ll argue that the vows Mira took regarding ā€œchastity and purity in the marital bedā€ were therefore invalid. Obviously, Sobik certainly didn’t hold himself to those vows (but he’s the king and a man so no one’s going to try to call him out on that standard).

As a result, the Marshall will insist that neither Belos, Vedran, or Elya can be regarded as legitimate heirs. If the Marshall hasn’t yet worked with the Archbishop to undo their dishonoring, then they can assert that the one with the most military power should rule if all Sobik’s children are illegitimate. And who’s going to be able to argue against those accusations anyway? Sobik and Belos are dead, potentially Vedran too. Elya’s in prison, possibly alongside Vedran, and Mira’s too drunk to do anything of importance. Overall, it just becomes an additional way of removing the other living claimants to the throne and a really cutthroat one at that…

Fascinating that all the F/F debate would have been solved if the Author just added small flavor-texts or reactions to your Marshall on any indication that they are attracted to a woman… at all.

After all, lesbian are known to fall for straight woman from time to time. Your feelings take over and you really don’t choose on who you feel attraction to, even if you try to repress it.

And… you never needed to add a lesbian RO since there’s no room for one. All you needed to do to avoid all the backlash was a simple call back every now and then in the planning phase. Some scenes to deal with MC’s feelings since by the look of the lone choice they are super duper repressed and go from there.

But, it’s too late for that I fear. Despite that, outstanding story. One of the better games to come out of Hosted Games. Shame I got the short end of the stick, but alas, such is life.
