Hello, i have been mostly an avid reader and also a loyal customer of Choice of Games and i wish to try my hands at trying to put some of own writing and hopefully make a game that people would love and appreciate, but i’m hopelessly noob at operating the website and on how to work on developing the game and publishing it as wip for people to give me feedback on, so can somebody who is knowledgeable about the process help me understand how i can do the same?

Also if there a user who understands and knows how to code can code the game for as i do the writing would be great but i think it would be too much but if someone can help me get my project off the ground then i would be forever grateful and hey if it actually gets published and makes money i would be more than happy to share it.

Gratefully Thankful
a fellow CoG user

I got super excited about it, did some research and ended up here grin My question - where in the heck does a Noob get started? Any links or articles anyone can point me too so that I can ready and try to figure out how this all works? I have zero scripting or programming experience. Thanks. TJ

> So, any long time member may know that I made a ChoiceScript Guide. Well after so long and so many iterations, I’m closing in on completing it. My intentions with this guide is to create something that, no matter your level of skill or computer knowledge, it can teach you the basics of ChoiceScript. For me to consider it truly ‘done’ though, I want to make sure it includes every thing that any aspiring ChoiceScript writer may want. So if you don’t know what to do with ChoiceScript, try checking …

You can also use the search function or google, there are a lot of guides to begin and questions you may have that someone has probably already made.

Hello and thank you for the reply, i have already finished writing the prologue and have been messing around with the coding part, for some reason i have been having issues inputing some choices correctly for the dashingdon playtest, hopefully i can figure things out quickly so i can make a post about it in WIP for hosted games, and have a nice day

No problem. You can always find help here, but make sure you search for the answer before, it might be there already.

You can look at this post, maybe you can try some tool to write that allows you to do the quickest and randomtest so you know your game is working fine before uploading.

> Hello, I was just wondering if I could get a general consensus of what the best writing tool is to use for writing your choicescript story. Please comment below what you, use and why you use it. Together we will find the most common and possibly best writing tool.

I personally use VSCode with this extension:

> [@New Choicescript extension for VS Code (2.0 now runs games!)](https://forum.choiceofgames.com/t/new-choicescript-extension-for-vs-code-2-0-now-runs-games/71387):

> I’ve released a new extension for [VS Code](https://code.visualstudio.com/), the popular programming text editor, that supports ChoiceScript. Along with syntax highlighting and auto-completing commands and variables, it shows common ChoiceScript errors as you write. You can find everywhere that you’ve used a variable in your game and globally rename a variable. It outlines your game, showing your choices, labels, and any \*global or \*temp variables. You can install it [from the extens…](https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=StephenGranade.choicescript-vscode)

It highlights errors before you even test it. So it is super fast and convenient.
But you can use CSIDE or any other editor of your liking.

Maybe you’ll find this helpful too. There’s a lot of stuff out there. And have a nice day you too.
