Honor Amongst Thieves (WIP) — Updated 8/20/2025

Isn’t she like in her late 50’s??? If not, RIP. There goes my favourite RO

Physical Description** :** In her late thirties, she is average height but her noble bearing makes people feel as if she towers over them. Thick dark brows frame her sharp, light brown eyes and her small but full lips are often pressed into a thin line as she thinks. Her hair hangs heavily down her back, like an inky black curtain. She doesn’t wear the traditional attire expected of her station, instead she wears the royal fabrics in the style of her homeland. Draped in heavy fabrics and adorned in heavy glittering jewelry, she glides through the halls or the palace, like an elegant specter.

tried to respond to you, I added the author’s description

Noooo. Oh well, I’m gonna headcanon her the way god intended. Makes the story funner.

It’s been so long since I had the time to catch up on my favorite demos and this one definitely remains my favorite~ Still obsessed with Desma even though things are popping off over there in an absolutely wild way! Also loving to see more of the magical/fantasy elements of this world, you do a low fantasy setting so well!!! The entire opening still makes me cry even though I’ve played it at least a dozen times over if not more, and I’m looking forward to running through with my other two characters (I always play my first as my original character, Ram, and then Ren and Rumi) and finally maybe romancing someone other than Desma, Merikh is really starting to grow on me and so are Nari and Heka so I’m either going to have to make a fourth character or someone is getting two runs lol. Thank you as always for sharing this absolutely fantastic story with us, it’s so fun and gripping and makes me feel so many emotions all at once!

Thank you for writing! Great WIP, looking forward to the next update.

…Is it bad that my favourite ROs currently are Desma and Sarai?
It seems to not be cohesive to my continued wellbeing in the game lol.

There’s only about 12-13 years difference between Sarai, and her son Aretas’ ages. She is very young to have an adult son because she was not an adult when she had him. Not by healthy standards anyway, but plenty of context points out that the previous king wasn’t an especially good man despite the presence of better men like Teacher Alim. Those of us who follow the patreon have seen a bit more behind the curtain on the matter, too.

I’m more looking forward to how the current configuration of the royal clan even relates to any of that, because so far it looks like there’s zero awareness from Aretas’s end about any of it past Alim’s disappearance from court, and the conversation on the hill with Lord whatshisnut trying to ‘bring him aboard’ with that talk of conquest, has me thinking it is more the “higher members" of the royal court that participated in the second event that takes the MC from their adoptive family. Whatever their roles, Aretas was absolutely a young child back then.

I mean this work seems partly inspired by ancient societies that may have had brides be as young a 8 or 9. And with the few, mostly bad things we know about Aretas’ dad it does not surprise me he impregnated his bride(s) as soon as they were biologically fit and damn their mental or emotional states. And while I am not on the Patreon it is pretty much clear between the lines that Aretas’ dearly departed dad seems to have been the villain who rendered our mc homeless not just once but twice. Which is why my mc is not exactly brimming with warm and fuzzy feelings for the royal family or Aretas for that matter.

True, I didn’t say my mc himself is always perfectly reasonable and once he does obtain incontrovertible evidence of the royal family’s involvement he may well develop the revenge mindset to destroy their family, like they did his second one. As that second time they rendered him homeless is the one that matters to my mc as mine does not give a hoot about house Seti whether or not he turns out to legitimately be its last living heir or not. Since that is a path he has never known and has never envisioned himself as a noble, nor did he want to and he certainly does not like the pretence he has to do right now, nor does he even like most nobles mostly for their casual disregard of lower Cusmo, with Poldi and Alim being the two notable exceptions to that.

Maybe true maybe not, as the house we get on all possible routes is always Seti and the queen always reacts way too severe at the whole Seti revelation thing, like she recognizes something in the mc. But it could be nothing of course. In any case mc will be forced to look more into it now, so we will learn eventually. In any case what my mc truly cares about is getting justice for Poldi and Alim, maybe even avenging them.

Why are you saying second time homeless? Far as i can recall seeing we have no true ties to house seti its just a role we take on as the MC so we can remain in postion to do the job we were hired for.

Now for the adoptive family I agree the former king quite likely had a role to play and I suspect the houses mentioned thus far as well at least benefitted from it. What I want to most see though is a face to the symbol we have of the house involved directly to at least one of our adoptive family’s deaths.

By the looks of how we get the bracelet of House Seti (with the whole thing of it seeming to come to us and put itself on our wrist) I’d say we probably do actually have some connection to the house, maybe not by blood but perhaps we were an adoptive child of House Seti and as such are recognised as a descendant by the bracelet.

Also, in the newer chapters (can’t recall which), there’s a flashback to a house fire in MC’s past that I interpreted as being pre-locust.

Yeah i don’t recall that sorta of thing happening will half to play again but at moment I doubt lol

@saltwaterwitch I defintly don’t recall a flash back that is pre locust I only recall events of our adoptive family and the fire that was part of its destruction.

Chapter 6

In the flames you see soldiers and rubble and love and hope being consumed by fire, and your efforts to extinguish it grow more frantic until every trace of it is gone. The fire is gone but the smoke is already in the air and you can hear the camp stirring.
You try to breath but the lingering smoke stings your eyes, smoke fills your lungs and the sound of horses hooves is too loud.
Distantly you can hear Desma whispering your name, but you can’t listen and drag her away from the camp, the silence of the woods calling to you.
Slumping against a tree you wretch, shaking. Your sweaty palms gripping the rough bark of the tree.
You’re alive.
This is not that night.

It’s not a flashback flashback, but it implies the MC was in some kind of fire before, and it doesn’t seem to be related to what happened with the mentor’s and I’m not sure it has to do with the talons. And the MC had to have become a locust somehow?

That’s referenced to what happened to our adoptive family its a flashback blending with the present when we’re at the camp of the kings hunt.

As to the locust part until I see irrefutable proof we were allways locust nothing more nothing less. Only thing I will concede is it can give people reason to wonder about our origin and makes it easy to be a red herring.

I was scrolling through the variable and noticed a true/false titled Desma_heatedkiss

Is that actually implemented and if so how do I get it?
