HEROES RISE: The hero project review

I suppose if you killed her, you’d say something along the lines of ‘no, that’s impossible, no one could have survived that!’ And she would say ‘I got better’ and the scene proceed as normal.
That does rather makes light of the decision to kill her in the first game, which is was a pretty big deal, what with your parents’ past and all.
I suppose Zack felt she was too good of a character to waste? Death as a revolving door seems rather prevalent in superhero stories in general.

I love the nipples Batman and super heroes costumes and villiains sorry i have a crush with leather and spandex ultra hot men. :x

I think my biggest concern about the game was that if I wasn’t someone’s lapdog then everyone had a problem with me. Even Jenny who’s suppose to be your best friend goes cold as ice if you don’t blindly follow her around. And you’re not really given an option to call anyone on their bullshit about it either. About midway into the game I couldn’t have cared less about any of them or the show.

@FallingCups i agree lol. That´s not credible at all

Hmm…I really don’t remember the lecture about sexual orientation during the political debate. Maybe I skipped over it quickly because it seemed unimportant to the story, or may be it wasn’t in the first beta, which is the version I’ve played most heavily. Not sure. It does sound rather heavy-handedly political however.

@P_Tigras It wasn’t in the first beta. It was added into the second beta.

@FairyGodfeather Uggh, I don’t like the sound of that. That makes it sound like it was added to check off a box on CoG’s political agenda instead of a well integrated and intrinsic part of the story. Some times CoG tries too hard even while it doesn’t try hard enough, ie. they add a patina of inclusiveness which smells of a political agenda because it looks and feels bolted on and artificial instead of natural and organic to the story.

@P_Tigras I don’t think that was the case. I think Zach truly believes in the neccessity of that scene. He wants it in there. He was aware that it came across as jarring, and preachy, but he felt that it was important.

He listened to a lot of the thoughts I had on inclusivity, and made changes due to a number of my comments. So I’m going to back him on this one.

Choice of Games agenda for inclusivity is important. It’s important that you can’t turn a blind eye to it, that it’s there, and even those playing the game straight can’t ignore its existence as is so often common in games.

Most games you need to opt in to any sort of GBLTQ content. It’s nice that that’s not the case here. That the various queer characters exist regardless.

I thought the scene broke the flow of the game. I didn’t care for it at all. The first incarnation of it I found was awful. I loathed it. It was like the worst sort of intersectional arguments you see on the internet, and it felt out of place. I had little chance to act, I just had to stand back and watch them all arguing. This version is slightly better. It does serve a purpose of explaining why The Bear and Stageshow hate eachother, which without that argument went completely unexplained. It also shows some of why GG has problems with The Bear. I think it also mentions Culic and how he might be a zehir, or it did first time around, which I’ll admit I didn’t particularly care for that twist, but someone mentioned that only female mosquitos suck blood.

I think Zach’s improving greatly as a writer of choice games. The differences between the first and the second games are vast. The agenda’s important to him. He felt that it was extremely important to have this scene in the game. So if he needs to write this scene, he needs it included, then I’ll back him on that. And I’ll also hope that in writing this scene, and then the rewrite it went under, and any feedback he receives, he’s going to learn and his writing will improve even more. Maybe he’ll learn that he doesn’t need to use a sledgehammer to drive the point home, maybe he’ll learn that the sledgehammer is the best tool.

I felt that that scene seemed awkward and out of place but I don’t know how everyone felt towards it. The MC didn’t really have any options other than to moderate the entire scene which felt frustrating in some ways.

For those who didn’t like the scene, how would you improve it? How would you make it less frustrating, without removing it? How would it be made to feel less awkward, and more as if it belonged where it is?

@FairyGodfeather Your endorsement of the scene sounds conflicted…

@P_Tigras It is conflicted. I hated that scene. I utterly loathed it. I spent days writing and rewriting my thoughts on it. I had a huge knee-jerk BURN IT WITH FIRE!!! reaction to it. And I wrote three emails on the subject, none of them particularly short.

Then I got an answer about the reasons for the scene. Zach thinks the scene is important. I can see his viewpoint on why it is. I do wish that it was subtler but it does at least serve a purpose. The current version is a lot better than the one in the beta-test.

Understandable. I’m fairly certain that my response to Zach wouldn’t have been that much different from yours had I the time to review the 2nd beta as well. In fact my words probably would have been more pointed. Authors shouldn’t allow a pet cause or political agenda to negatively impact the quality of the story they tell. If they don’t care enough to invest the time needed to integrate it gracefully and seamlessly into the story, then they should leave it out. I’m not a fan of how heavy handed CoG is becoming about pushing its agenda, to the detriment of the stories it’s releasing.

Definitely have to say I really liked Heroes Rise 2. ZE is still on the top of my list, but the HR series is second place haha. This sequel was great, at least imo.

About the sexual orientation scene, since you you guys are talking about it, I thought it was interesting despite feeling sudden. Like Jack said, it felt like a more or less an appropriate argument for a reality show. I don’t think it should of been taken out, in fact, I thought it was pretty cool it was included. It provided insight into the hearts and struggles of the surrounding characters.

Personally, I can’t wait for HR3!

I just skip the boring scene, if the author thinks is important great for him , but I don’t have to read his horrible assambled piece. And yeah I,m not anti gay the theme is interesting, but not there. My character has to listen all the preaching. Why don’t give the option to give myself a spech or punch in the face a moron. Or shout both has to learn respect. No character remains there hearing the pulpit sermon who being sincere, after first propaganda all skip it. I did for plays and each time is more anoying here goes again !

I was blown away by how in depth thought provoking the plot was- Zachary Sergi always manages to engross me with the main story arc while simultaneously blowing my mind with hidden sub plots. I also grew attached to a lot of the characters and found myself having strong negative feelings towards other characters (namely Jury, Victon, Inherit and Summit). I also have to add that the statistics were in depth and dynamic as always, the illustration was cool, and the tournament style competition was extremely exciting and had me on the edge of my seat at all times. The only significant qualm that I had was that about 50% of the choices were fake, and quite obviously so. I bought myself a copy as soon as it came out, I gave a rating of 4/5 and I eagerly await the 3rd installment.

Getting smashed in the face with a sledgehammer of political ideas and views was pretty annoying. But I honestly don’t think I would have minded it as much if I didn’t hate everyone at that point. GG was riding some high horse with a chip on his shoulder, Bear was a douche and everyone else was just stoking the flames. The character interactions in this gave me such a bad taste in my mouth I doubt I’ll be picking up the third one.

No seriously Black Magic, your powers have no limits and you have blinded the cameras before…you could take the time to explain why you were acting that way?

Sorry if this kind of suddenly but why I can’t download Hero Rise:The Hero Project when I already purchase it?I already receive message that the money already transferred and it is transferred when I check it,but I can’t download it nor I can’t access the restore purchase

overall fairly good i enjoyed it for the most part except in a few key areas:

  1. Black magics switch from slightly manipulative to over the top manipulative, Im not certain how you would improve this but it felt jarring
  2. this may ruffle some feather but the lgbtq conversation about halfway through where GG goes off on The Bear is poorly done, now ill admit to having little care for such issues and don,t particularly enjoy stories about them, but this subplot went nowhere in the game its just there and then gone
  3. and most importantly the main characters utter lack of imagination in how to utilize their powers is almost mistifying to me. all they can think to do is cause explosions? do they not realize what they can do when manipulating atoms? the concept alone is far more terrifying then a simple atomic explosion. thye could tear things apart molecule by molecule or even build them back up again, they could reshape there appearence at a whim, and all they can think to do is make things go boom or occasionally shut things off? personally i would have liked to choose a specialization for my newfound powers and go from there.
