Or: “Hero or Villain: The Beginning” (maybe? Depends if you’d be definitely making more installments for it though as it sounds more like a series name )
Or maybe “Hero or Villain: Genesis”
Just thinking aloud though. I’d be fine with Birth of a Hero…or Villain or Hero or Villiain: The Birth too.
So, if you want to sell (you can make it for your own personal pleasure) a comic book called “Star Spangled Superhero Stories,” you would not be able to. But if you want to refer to your characters as superheroes within the comic, you can do so. This is what allows DC to refer to their character Captain Marvel as Captain Marvel within the comic, but they cannot use the name Captain Marvel in advertising or as the name of the comic, because Marvel holds a registered trademark of that name.
Huh? How does that work? You can’t use superhero on the cover but you can in the book?
I was actually reading that I guess what they mean is that you can’t put it as the title because according to marvel and dc when a person thinks about superheroes it’s usually one of them , but you can have it in the book just not in the title , kind how DC can use the name caption marvel in the comics but they have to advertise the name of the comic as Shazam
@Dloading Still super bizarre though. Like if you repurposed the names of Harry Potter cast but called it Sorcerer’s world on the front cover, you’d still be getting a cease and desist order from JK I’d imagine. Maybe it has something to do with the odd arrangement where both DC and Marvel wan’t to continue to be able to use the same things. No idea.
(At least hopefully that means you don’t have to scrub every mention of the word superhero from the entire game?)
@Dartknight I don’t know if that is too close to break copyright rules…
Otherwise yes, it seems really odd about the use of the words. Anyway, I’m happy that they can be used inside the game, as otherwise I’d be having to go inside and checking again everything!
So, it seems that the “Hero or Villain” part is the most popular (to be honest, I also like it). However, several other suggestions for the second part have been proposed. Given that it’ll likely be a series (I’m thinking of maybe calling the second part “Battle Royale”, “Coliseum” or “Trial of Champions”), what do you think could be the best?
Well, I could wait a bit longer, but it seems most people have voted for Hero or Villain: Genesis… which was also my vote. So, I think that should be the title! (thanks for all the suggestions thought, it has really helped). Actually, I think I like it much more than Birth of a Superhero or villain, so maybe that copyright problem was a blessing in disguise!!!
No worries. And yes, the game is being checked. I’m thinking of having a very last round of testing immediately before it is released, but maybe that won’t be until a couple of months time. So, stay tuned…
