Hero or Villain: Genesis (Thread for reporting bugs etc)

New version is up. During the next few days I will be trying to add some more side missions, and finishing off the main threads of the game. I haven’t forgotten about those who wanted to test the inventor path. I need to do some small check myself, and then hopefully it’ll be ready for testing next week. My hope is to hand in the game to CoGs on the 26th of April… though that might be a bit too optimistic…

Changes
-Added one small extra “side mission” for villains.
-Expanded a little bit the narrative of the stay in NY villain path (not much, only 200-300 pages… I think I need to work a bit more on this, as it appears a bit too “streamlined”, and thus short)
-Expanded the introduction slightly. There is now an option that the MC went to Vegas and got his powers around the desert (and starting the game with a bit of extra cash)
-Added an extra scene to the staying in NY superhero path
-Fixed many bugs (thanks for all those reporting them!) :slight_smile:

To do list
-Place all powers chosen in the power choosing page, add possibility to clear and choose again. Add a number of pre-determined super-heroes (wolverine-type, etc)
-billards bar and extra side stories for villains. Possible human genome storyline? (post #431)
-Drag in Mongolia part of the game. Should try to improve things there.
-Add possibility to recruit black cockroach on supervillain path. Also, add possibility to recruit Black Shark and cockroach to fight SA
-Normal hero path Mr. Watson endings.

And yet another update is up, today was a pretty good day and I managed to really push forward with things.

The update is just for those in the private threads. You can now recruit black cockroach and white shark as side kicks (side missions for those were added). However, I still haven’t coded the main part of the 3rd fight with SA that goes with that. Also, I continued work on the achievement, so some of these should now start to show as you go along.

How do people feel about the RO in the game so far? Any feedback you can give me on them? Any recommendations on how to improve any of the characters in this sense?

  • They are great! (no more work needed on them)
  • They are ok. Typical of what I expect
  • They don’t feel very fleshed out
  • They are all pretty bad. I was not interested in anyone
  • I’m not interested in RO in games

Wew the plot twist is gonna be shocking. I guess that the outcome also depends on the current relationship with your mom.

That would indeed be a big plot twist… but I think a bit too much? Anyway, I have added the option to influence your mum’s dreams! (with some dreams targetted especially for her, to give this section a bit more personality…)

New version is up. Actually, this is finally what I would consider the “almost finished” part of the game. I also started a new thread for those that wanted to playtest inventor path (let me know if I missed anybody…). Still hoping to submit this to CoG in the next 10 days, though that could be a bit ambitious as I still want to re-read it all… mmmm

-New small scene in Mongolian part of the game.
-Coded the present of side-kick during 3rd fight with SA.
-Sorted out many bugs.
-Improved achievements (still not completely finished though)

Umm…when I was working on a new website design…even after working a whole day the progress bar doesn’t change. So am I even working or am I sleeping in the office. This doesn’t make any sense.

I am a bit worried about whether people feel that the decisions you take reflect well on the changes made to the MC’s personality (there were some complaints about this in one of my earlier games). How do you feel about this? Do you feel that your choices then reflect well the changes made to personality stats? Has anybody found any major problems with this?

Sorry for lack of updates… Have been working a lot and are now in holidays, but hopefully I’ll finish the game once I’m back (while on holidays I’ve started work on my new game though!)

I did a few runs on the super easy mode just to test different power routes because those are my favorite in these games, but at least in the public demo I noticed that the weapon generation perk for Shadow at least (haven’t got the chance to try out any others) didn’t seem to be used at all. I selected being able to create a melee and ranged weapon, but it seemed to either default to the other ranged attack selected or there are no options to do so. I had the option to shoot, but only after I bought a gun from the weapons store.

The villain route seems pretty disjointed currently, because I literally go in and do whatever the heck I want stealing left and right and suffer no consequences or suspicion for it. The bank scene with Steel just felt really off that there were no explanation that I saw of why cameras weren’t running/etc. that would have picked up my uh… sightseeing around the compound. The hero route seemed perfectly fine, but the villain route got all the same public results and I just kept trying to make friends with the villains.

Thanks! That really helps! I have long had the fear that the villain thread might not read so well (compared to the hero thread… I mean, this game was first made as superhero game, and then re-convered to allow being a villain). I will look into the weapon bug when I get back from holidays, and also try to tinker with the bank scene.

Any other thoughts and suggestions that you have are welcome! (and, I do note that other people have given me feedback in the last 2-3 weeks that I still haven’t implemented, I will try to do so once I get back… my new target is to submit this before the 23rd of May… which would make it around two years since I started this game!)

IMO off the top of my head for villain route:

Mention the Steel Argonaut disables the cameras before she goes in somewhere. Have it in the police briefing before we go in or have your character notice it if their tech skills are good.

Have the police call you out for slow pursuit if you choose to sandbag it. I legitimately just walked in pursuit instead of running or using powers if I had them and they still hailed me a hero. I feel like the news headline should be more neutral and the police officer should like you less if you half ass it in front of them. They could think it was something else like you were intimidated or lazy or what have you instead of the real objective in teaming up but still.

In the scene with the Black Cockroach, the peaceful option also seemed out of place. ‘Those idiots outside think I’m a hero’ – why would you ever say that to some random homeless dude who just got the munchies? There’s nothing stopping him from snitching on you at all there. It just felt out of place to me.

I would like to suggest that you add the possibility of having an sidekick, it would be difficult to add it but I think it would be worth it if you tried

There are already some possibilities for side-kicks… though I guess you have to actually find them within the game…

In my opinion villain route is always more popular than hero route.

I want a villain sidekick like shego from KP.
