At the end of the first chapter you’re given an inkling on what color your dragon is—the eye color. Each color of dragon has a canon eye color . So if you got hazel eyes you have a green dragon or if you got gold eyes you have a white dragon.
Grigori may be one of the coolest red dragons in videogaming. So cool in fact that he stole my heart.
Not very far into this demo yet, but really enjoying it. The only thing I can say is that there are some tense changes between past and present pretty often. For example,
You wince at the sound of water splashing against the ground near you. [Wince makes it present tense. Your face burrowing itself further into your knees because of it. [this sentence is in passive voice, consider rewriting it actively; you burrow your face…] Trying to block out all the noises. Trying to block out the overwhelming feeling of something missing. Something that, you knew [knew is past tense, consider know] with your entire heart and soul, should be right next to you.
Closing your eyes you press your back against the rough stone of the wall you were [are] leaning against. Your hunched position causing [causes] the craggy rocks to dig into your spine, but you didn’t [don’t\ bother yourself in getting comfortable . [WOrdy; You don’t bother to get comfortable.] It was either here, where it was dry, or over a few steps where it was soaking wet. You knew it was a tactic to unsettle you, to make you feel weak and helpless, and you hated [hate] it. What you hated [hate] more, however, was [is] the fact that it was working.
I’d suggest either rewriting the entire thing in present tense as I outline, or shift the entire thing to past. This narration style is confusing.
Other than that, I really enjoy the plot and characters.
Wooooo! Dragons!!!
The soul bond aspect is really cool! You get to choose what kind of personality your MC has while the dragon chooses the rider based on their personality. Other than lore, it makes the bond feel very mutual rather than the MC just choosing the dragon’s color. I’m already attached to this hatchling dragon that worked hard to break out of its egg (for the MC?) even though I’ve only seen it’s eyes lol.
Will the dragon’s color play a role in the story? Like the characters reacting differently to an MC with a red dragon v a green dragon?
Yes
Each dragon will also have their own personality too. For instance where a white dragon might act calm in one scenario-- a red dragon could act completely different in that same situation. So each dragon, and your experiences with them, will be unique. (People will also react in different manners when it comes to what type of dragon you have, you’re right about that.)
I am so happy to see that you already love your little baby, because I know they love you too. I can’t wait for you all to meet them fully. That’s one of the things I am looking forward to the most. Well that and introducing the rest of the ROs. (You’re also correct… the hatchling worked extra hard when they realized who was on the other side of that shell.)
Will it be possible to play a more “evil” oriented character? I feel like our current situation (Fae, hated by most people, etc) would allow certain personalities to be a bit more vindictive than others. My character treats most people in kind - if they are a-holes towards her and those she cares about then they can expect the same treatment in return.
Which leads me to another question - will our dragons be locked to a specific alignment based on their color? Or will their personality shift based on our shared experiences? I got a purple dragon in my game and I’m trying to understand/think how to make my character (who isn’t very diplomatic to begin with) work with her scaly friend (who is).
I feel like we have too few choices early on to decide something as important as this and that it happens a bit too quickly. It can result in players paired up with dragons that may or may not match their “true” overall personality. So my question/purpose here is to find a way to make them work together when that happens. I’ll just ask for my case in particular - if I have a purple dragon but my character is a bit hot-headed and leans towards evil, what can I expect?
I can’t seem to open the stats menu in the demo. I assume this is a problem with my phone and dashingdon, so could someone point me to a forum that could help with this?
It’s not. The author hasn’t done that stat menu yet, so you won’t be able to access it.
Ah, thanks for the clear up
I’ve really enjoyed what you have so far! Will we be able to name our dragons custom names, or will they have a preset name? I probably won’t actually name my dragon Gorbash, but I like the IDEA of it.
(Gorbash is from one of my favorite animated movies, Flight of Dragons.)
Cool. Great play on fae discrimination and all that humor was FANTASTIC as heck. Has the Feels like Eragon with soul bond but hey atleast if i die then my dragon won’t die… I think…
Interesting so far. I think I will watch this and see where it goes.
The dragons are actually random right now, because of the stats not being implemented. Meaning that your choices have no bearing on which dragon you get right now. (That’s part of the reason that stats aren’t implemented. I need to go through each choice, add the stats, and then work through them so they lead up to the specific dragon they match up with… if that makes sense. I’m sorry for the confusion.)
As for your question… I actually haven’t decided. I don’t think the MC can be evil… dark maybe? But I can’t see the story progressing with an evil MC. With the ROs or the other Riders.
Seriously?! Because I’m pretty certain, from what you’ve said about the colors, that I’d get a green dragon anyway
Though I guess it may become a close match between green and white.
Yes, but I am almost done with the stats and everything (hopefully it’ll be completely done soon) so the more concrete way will be out (hopefully) soon. I apologize that it’s not super concrete right now, but I am trying .
Don’t sweat it too much, rushed work rarely ends well. Man, I’m excited to get my dragon!
There will be some rude dragon rider? Becouse for a society where fae are treated so poorly right now all the dragon rider we encountered are gentle and not racist. I mean for the heir of the nation that never stopped this discrimination and hate he seem too gentle. Not wrong to have a “good apple” in the family, but working on changing the way some one see others could be an enteresting challenge.
Hey did the author just update the game?
P.S.
If the MC cannot be evil then how about making it so they can come across as a brooding bodyguard. You know like someone who you know is there yet you cannot seem to find them in a crowd sort of way?
Heyo! Great story so far, really hangin on that cliffhanger for dragon color.
Just to let you know theres a bit of a stats issue. When choosing the option “Hesitate, but shake his hand” for Silas, your Peaceful/Lawless Stat gets set to 1% Peaceful afterwards. I know you said previously that stats aren’t 100% done yet, just a heads up.
