I actually really like Arthur as a person, I’m just not attracted to males xD poor guy. Morgana will always be my favorite, though.
@Samuel_H_Young That could work, too… There’s something of a natural break between 2 and 3, and the last three books will have a lot of shared momentum if my plan works out. I guess I’ll just keep writing and planning, and see what happens!
@Winters Yay! Thanks for playing and for posting your thoughts.
I’m so glad you like it enough to replay it, and I really hope you’ll enjoy the next part just as much. Your like-Arthur-love-Lance tension should play out well… makes me wonder what the breaking-point will be for your Guen no longer resisting. As for Morgana, it’s true that getting the highest possible trust score with her requires prioritizing her over the others, even if it’s just friendship. But at “moderately kind,” you won’t lose out on any of the upcoming friendship dialogue; Morgana considers a “moderately kind” Guen to be her friend.
I’m also looking forward to seeing exactly how the infidelity accusation will play out, given the number of possible situations Guen could be in by the time it happens… she could be totally celibate, totally faithful to Arthur, or having an affair with Morgana, or Lancelot, or both, or an ot3 relationship with Arthur and Lance… all of those should mean different things when the accusations start flying. I hope I can make it work!
Arthur’s personality may change over time, depending on Guen’s influence. If he becomes less naive, then an affair might not hit him quite as hard, though he’ll still be unhappy about it. If he stays innocent, he’ll be much more devastated, and yeah, I can imagine that the more he trusts and likes/loves Guen, the more devastated he’ll be. You might be able, starting at the end of part 2, to let him down gently over time, so that it’s not quite as much of a shock – I’m still figuring that out.
Anyway, I look forward to hearing what you think of the rest of the game!
Also, I’m sure this has already been addressed, but I don’t feel like looking through 1,500 comments. xD Would you be able to use characters like Merlin, Lancelot and King Arthur? It’s certainly possible that it’s now available for everyone to use, but I’m just wondering.
@jeantown today I was replaying the game and Poison queen just though why I can’t launch Barbie through the abyss? They were alone at night in the precipice. I know Barbie can’t die lol But what couldn’t my character try to mess up people? Like fake some attack a poison bolt or dark magic, something that makes Barbie suspect a inside traitor probably Morgana or Cheese lover. I would love to attempt against him and fake that i was the poor victim … >:) It is so great being bad.
@Samuel_H_Young Do you mean play as those characters? If so, unfortunately, no… that would be awesome, but it would require basically writing a whole new game. For this one, it’s a fixed protagonist with a very adaptable personality.
That said, after I finish this one, I really want to write a Robin Hood game with a less fixed, genderswappable MC. The Robin Hood game would still have romances and a strong character/relationship focus, but it would be more of an adventure story, with a more complex stat system (another thing on which I might consult you sometime
).
Er, no
I guess I wasn’t clear enough. Expecting to play as different characters is way too much
I was asking if you’re allowed to use these characters, even if they’re your version of them, since they were originally created by someone else. Like are they in the public domain?
That would be awesome! And yes, feel free to.
@poison_mara heehee
As you already know, you can’t kill the main characters because I seriously cannot make the plot work if they’re dead. Lancelot doesn’t know it yet, but he’s a key part of the Evil Plot to bring down the kingdom… and if he dies now, the Evil Plot won’t work. I expect you’ll get a chance to ruin his life and kill him before it’s all over, if that’s what you want; you just have to wait awhile.
As for why you can’t make lots of murder attempts, I don’t like to dangle too many potential failures in front of the reader, or they get frustrated (not that it wouldn’t be sort of funny to write a Guen who keeps trying and failing to kill Lancelot, for years and years). Part 1 already has too many moments when Guen can choose to do something, only to find out that it doesn’t work / doesn’t make a difference – I really want to stay away from those if I can.
But, as I’ve said before, I would like to go back and add more opportunities for Guen to sabotage people’s relationships with each other, particularly Lancelot and Arthur. I just have to get the main plot structures for the later parts in place, and then I’ll see if I can make the relationship-sabotage work.
@Samuel_H_Young Oh, that makes much more sense!
Arthurian legend is totally public domain. It comes from medieval oral tradition and has no original author (that we know of). That’s why there are so many different King Arthur stories out there!
Ohhh! Pardon my ignorance on that xD well, great. Your version is my favorite.
OOOOH COOL I WANNA SABOTAGE THEM. ALSO IF I PUSH BARBIE HE FLIES? HE REALLY HAS WINGS???

@Samuel_H_Young Aw, thanks!
Robin Hood is the same deal, so I can rewrite those characters freely, too – looking forward to it.
@poison_mara Is that a DEAD BIRD EMOJI SERIOUSLY?!?!!
@jeantown never doubt Mara’s skills to found poison or deathly emojis. In theory was a dragon head but looks bad lol

hip·pie
ˈhipē/
noun
noun: hippy; plural noun: hippies; noun: hippie
1.
(especially in the 1960s) a person of unconventional appearance, typically having long hair and wearing beads, associated with a subculture involving a rejection of conventional values and the taking of hallucinogenic drugs.
I am so staying out of this.
Except to comment that it seriously looks like a dead bird lying on its back with its legs in the air!!!
edit: Originally I had that in all caps, but it was just too out of character for me to type in all caps for that long.
Sam hippie is for having idealistic utopia in his head, believe all people are good, even if is a psycho trying to kill you and your wife. Arthur always appears long beard too. He was the first hippie ever
“Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster… for when you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."
It has nothing to do with believing everyone is good, for the compassionate people such as I know that, more than anyone, to be utterly false.
Now that is an interesting question for me to spend some time with. Does my Arthur, innocent and well-meaning as he is, automatically assume everyone is good? Hmm… I genuinely need to think this through.
My first thought is to say, of course not, because his whole purpose is to change the way power works. He says himself that he’s seen people abuse power terribly. So he knows that not everyone is good, and he’s working specifically to right the wrongs committed by people who are not good.
But at the same time, he has a hard time understanding why anyone would not want to do good. Like, he knows intellectually that people can be selfish, but he doesn’t really understand why. He does tend to expect the best from people until he has a reason not to, and he believes that anyone can change and become a better person, so he is very quick to forgive.
Gonna keep turning this over in my mind, since it’s worth thinking about as I plan future installments…
Hello, lurker for a while now.
Love the game - the idea of being Guenevere as the protagonist is fascinating, especially as what she does plays a role closer to Arthur himself than (almost?) anyone else.
In my opinion:
I’m not against him being trusting and forgiving, but there’s a major difference between an Arthur quick to forgive wrongs if someone appears to make amends - and an Arthur blind to whether or not anyone has done anything to make amends for.
I think Arthur having an idealistic utopia in his head should not mean that he thinks that everyone shares that ideal.
So I vote for less “Arthur is clueless” and more “Arthur is optimistic” - Arthur believes that the better half of human nature is the stronger half.
So with the attempt to kill Guen, he might understand that someone finds it to be a bad thing, but he might believe them promising that they would never - say - strike under cover of truce.
And if he’s fighting for 'justice for all", he may not fully understand that the tyrants and corrupt see that as a bad thing in the same way he sees that as a good thing - justice to Arthur does not mean that they lose everything forever and ever, as long as they reform.
But they don’t want to reform or lose anything for any time.
Basically I think Arthur should be contrasted with a Guen (if one plays this way) with a more negative view of human nature, but not to the point of being blind to the fact people do bad things. He thinks they can be redeemed, or encouraged to do better - but if he treats something like someone trying to kill his wife as if he can’t understand that someone would do that, that no one would ever do something so mean and that there’s no way that could be what really happened, he’s just an idiot. Please don’t give us an idiot king.
Sam, my queen the poison queen, is like many real Queens through history. Ruthless and power hungry . With the medieval conception of all. She really thinks her privilege and sacred duty is dominating the kingdom, bend it to her complete will to make it stronger and keep it safe. Arthur has been for her just a stupid baby playing with real people as toys. While the kingdom suffers by his lovely decisions. Famine and raids because he doesn’t end for good rebellions’ and doesn’t clear situation with other countries and persecute according medieval uses the thieves and bad people.
You could say Arthur is nice from a modern perspective, but from a medieval one he is just stupid. Your rivals go to kill all population fire all and stole all they can including children to make them slaves. They dont care victims and could fight continuously more 30 years. Wiping ruthlessness and with cruelty all your nearby countries. My Guen doesnt want that happen Ingland she just want a strong free kingdom.
