Guenevere (WIP)

Huh, i thought it’s a common expression in english to say “to die for something”. Although in Polish we don’t use it, i guess more common here is to say “to kill for someting” in the same meaning.

Actually, Tehani, Clarent was Arthur’s sword, Mordred stole it, according to the stories I’m aware of.

So if Jeantown wants it to get into Guen's hands all she has to do is beg, borrow, or steal it first.

@jeantown That was really fun :smiley: , I strongly approve of getting together with all three of them…And anyone else who happens to walk in. :wink: A very good read. I don’t think I missed all that many options, perhaps a chance to influence the tactics rather than sword/light magic/dark magic at the battle. Other than that I think I felt my views represented very well. I do hope this makes it to Steam as that is the only way I can purchase one of these games for the moment. Unless you were planning on making it free in which case kudos to you.

This was my first playthrough;

@poison_mara Huehuehue, to die the little death. And @jeantown, thanks to you and Google, I now know that Shakespeare was good with those innuendos. My, I have to hear some of them for real in a play.

@Doctor Oooh, that would explain why, unlike guns, fireworks are prohibited in some states. I think we are on to something. ^^

And thanks Stsword for the precision. I only knew of Excalibur, but the version of the story with Clarent as the Sword in the Stone and Excalibur as the gift form the Lady of the Lake is a good one too (and it explains why the sword is returned to her after Arthur’s death). It made me search the web for more and now I have five different variations of how Arthur’s story ended! Today was a good day to learn.

@Doctor Yeah, at least with guns, there’s some expectation that one should learn to use them safely. Fireworks… Which end do you light? Is it really lit? Are you sure? Let me just check…

@poison_mara, @Leingod, @Ponku, @Tehani I never knew that particular innuendo also existed in Spanish! Fascinating… Makes me wonder if it’s also in Italian. I also wonder if it came into English from the Romance languages. That seems likely, given the big influence they had during the later Middle Ages and Early Modern period. For anyone who isn’t familiar with that sense of “die,” here’s a Wikipedia article and, if you scroll down to number 10 on this page, an example from Shakespeare. In any case, I wish @mara many happy deaths. :slight_smile:

@kanani40 Thank you! :slight_smile: Knowing that people like the game keeps me working hard on part 2!

Same to @MutonElite, and also thanks for posting your stats. :slight_smile: Ultimately it should be possible to have romantic relationships with all three main NPCs simultaneously, but Morgana won’t let it happen until much later (she’s super-jealous of any Guen/Lance romance in the first few books). Anyway, I plan to post each part here when I finish it, so I can get lots of feedback. That means you’ll be able to play right up until the end if you don’t mind waiting a long time. :slight_smile: If/when the time comes for commercial release, I want to add some extras to make buying it worthwhile – maybe some small spot illustrations, some extra scenes, maybe an added f/f romance path… (not sure about that last one, but it’s a nice thought). It’s going to take me so long to finish that anything could happen with the CoG business model by then, so I hope you’ll be able to buy it!

And @Tehani, it seems like if you combine all the stories about Arthur’s sword[s], he’s getting all kinds of swords with different names handed to him left and right! Maybe I can find one for Guen in there someday.

Additional Femslash pairing? Hmmmmm… Spanish Countessa? A follower of the Goddess maybe? One of the knights? So many options…

I’m sure whatever you pick, it will fit naturally into the story, although my Guen only has eyes for Morgana at this point.

I’d definitely ship Guen/one of her lady-knights.

@jeantown Hahaha, you get a sword, and you get a sword, and you… Everybody gets a sword!
Hou, jealousy! How are you going to handle this? Do you think you are going to make this as “public displays of jealousy” for Guen or will she hear about it but never witness it? A penny for your thoughts. :slight_smile:

Man, I don’t really post here much anymore even though I come back to replay the game every few days or so, lol.

@jeantown

Oooh, another romance option? I can only imagine- Vivian, Nimue? Isolde? Elaine? (THAT would make that love…triangle?..rectangle…? really interesting. I remember you mentioning on tumblr that the Arthur/Lancelot/Guenevere OT3 can happen in the book Elaine marries Lancelot, so that would make it even messier. Or cleaner? It’s confusing.)

“Camelot!”
“Camelot!”
“Camelot”
“[whispered]its only a model.”
“Shhhh!”

Anyone remember that?

And on a completely unrelated note, I wonder if there wIll ever be a way for guen to completely eclipse Arthur’s accomplishments and fame, causing either jealousy or admiration(depending on ur relationship)? I just feel like a situation like that could either create distance between them or bring them closer together. Just a thought.

@thesunfloweramazon It would do something like this. :stuck_out_tongue: (It would have been great in 3D, like a chemical model for a new molecule.)

Elaine        |     \\    Arthur - Guen - Lancelot /   \\ Morgana   Mordred @FunnyManVanya I know what I am going to watch tonight.

@Taiho and @Ramidel and @thesunfloweramazon My first thought was one of the lady knights, for the most contrast with Morgana. But if I do it, it won’t be until all the parts are finished (years from now), and I’ll want to be sure I can make it fit meaningfully with the overall narrative. I’d like to, though, because it seems unfair to have three m/f romances and only one f/f.

@Tehani Your diagram is quickly approaching love dodecahedron territory. I have an unfortunate weakness for that kind of drama.

And also @Tehani and @FunnyManVanya Not totally sure but… in part 1 it should be obvious what each of the three main NPCs’ primary stats are, and that they’ve been cultivating those stats their whole lives. Guen hasn’t had the same opportunities, so even if her prime stat is sword, she’s nowhere near Lancelot’s level, because he’s been trained very specifically as a fighter since he was a child… same for Morgana with dark magic… but by the time we get into the later parts, Guen should be able to rival or exceed the other characters’ abilities. Will they be jealous? I guess that will depend on the status of Guen’s relationships with them. In any case, Guen will be able to start eclipsing Arthur at the end of part 2.

Also, there is a very very minor Monty Python reference in part 2. You won’t see it in all the paths, but it’s there. :slight_smile:

@tehani

HA yeah we could make a whole chart.

(Wouldn’t there also be a line from Arthur to Lancelot? That depends if the possible OT3 is of the triangle or V variety I guess…)

@jeantown

oooo poor arthur lol. well, guenevere’s pa is famous for his leadership and tactics, so his kid taking to it very well shouldn’t be too unsurprising to him. hopefully.

Love dodecahedra are fun if the writer can keep everything straight.

@Tehani: You’re forgetting the Arthur-Morgana connection.

@jeantown - I didn’t mean just for skills, I see your point there- I mean in her accomplishments. What if there’s a situation for when , say if Arthur and guen both walk out in a procession or a formal wet and greet or whatever, and the crowd, instead of cheering for their king, is only cheering for guen, or vice versa? How Arthur would feel about that would be a bit interesting in my opinion.

@jeantown I was talking about the jealousy that could come from a love dodecahedron (this thing is messy). I was commenting your “[Morgana] is super-jealous of any Guen/Lance romance in the first few books”.

@thesunfloweramazon, @Ramidel Ta-da? ^^ Guen is the center of her own solar system.

@thesunfloweramazon and @Ramidel and @Tehani What, no line between Lancelot and Morgana? :wink:

@Tehani Honestly, I’m not sure yet how various romantic jealousies might manifest themselves. I’ll have to wait to see how things play out. (Obviously it depends on who knows what. Morgana is turning out to be almost psychic when it comes to Guen’s relationships. Arthur will be willfully oblivious.) The only really specific plan I have right now is a chance for Guen to be jealous of Lancelot and Elaine, if she’s so inclined.

@FunnyManVanya That could very well happen, depending on how Guen plays things. Arthur’s reaction will still probably depend on their relationship.

@jeantown I just wonder I could become Morgana an ambitious person and with a poisonous hatred for Arthur? Think what hippie and idealist stupid his act… he uses me … he is using you taking back your place of power. And same place does same with a hardened hippie? She is a dark witch she wants kill your dream …

Divide to win, and persuade, but keep your poison dagger to backstab Are my Guen mottos

@Tehani

That is one heck of an excellent catpile.

@Jeantown

Ooooo don’t tease! I ship Morgana/Lancelot quite a bit, ahaha. I’m kind of on the edge though because I’m unsure if Morgana is just interested in girls or not- she never seems to express interest in them and dislikes her husband- but I’m assuming since you ship it she’s bi/pan then?

I’m also interested in playing against the whole Guenevere vs. Elaine jealousy cliche. Of course whether or not my Guens like her depends on what she’s like herself, but I’m hoping to avoid being jealous, at least.

Playing at least one jealousy one will be fun too though.

@poison_mara Morgana is pretty strong-willed, so changing her mind about anything would be difficult. That said, she will be extremely angry with Arthur after Mordred’s conception, so maybe Guen can use that somehow – not sure; I’ll have to see how it plays out! It should be easier to turn other people against Morgana, since they have a natural suspicion of her.

@thesunfloweramazon Well, I’m trying not to label any of my characters too specifically, to leave room for interpretation… but for Morgana, I’d say that most of the people she finds attractive are women, with a few exceptions. Of course, at the moment, she’s in complete denial about any attraction she might have to Lancelot, and she’ll stay that way unless Guen calls her on it at some point. (At least, that’s my plan at the moment.) Probably the only NPC who’s not on some kind of spectrum (or several) is Arthur, but that can be dealt with, because I would not want to disappoint the A/G/L poly shippers.

As for Elaine, she and Guen can absolutely be allies, even if Guen and Lancelot are involved. In fact, the first time Elaine appears (according to the current plan), she’ll be making an overture of friendship toward Guen. It will be up to Guen to decide how to respond.
