@Leingod I remember there being a censor patch floating around somewhere that cuts out the sex entirely to just focus on the story. I don’t support the anime, I’ve heard it’s not very good and I’ve been through the translated VN myself and found that to be best.
Also, Rider forever, Lancer is good, Archer can stuff it and Berserker is just cheating.
@OtherGrimm Well, now I feel validated. wish my parents had read it to me that way.
@Havenstone Exactly. That would be one of the edits necessary to make reasonable sense. And Lady of the Rings sounds good to me. It’s sad that a book with a gazillion female characters would seem weird when a book with a gazillion male characters just seems normal to most people.
@Leingod and @Taiho thanks for the information. Why is it that the rare VNs that get picked for translation are usually lame, and the good ones don’t get translated? Whoever makes those decisions seems to be pretty out of touch with both Japanese and English-speaking cultures. Anyway, maybe I’ll look into it some more, though I don’t download things illegally ever since I got a job, so I may be stuck with playthrough videos and the anime.
@ jeantown It’s definitely worth it, however you get it (well, I wouldn’t say it’s really worth more than $50, so maybe check ebay). Quite aside from the fem!Arthur it’s just a great story, with a really great setting, great characters, and a stellar blend of action, humor, tragedy and drama. It’s also got fairly good replay value, since there are three completely different routes to play, each of which drastically changes the entire story. Just avoid the anime version of Fate/Stay Night and watch the anime version of Fate/Zero instead.
The only one translates are the ones that insult women rape the protagonist or whatever :(( For instance, I love Princess maker game and stuff well, they never release in English even the two translated is only a beta. That’s not fair! There are awesome games who don’t treat bad women, are cute, and the insane replay value. So they never translate it?
There is a Chinese group of artists and writers who are working on Fate/Knight Rhapsody: a (free) series of visual novels inspired from Fate/Stay Night and focused on (the romances of) Altria Pendragon. The first act is released in English, and the second will be translated soon I guess. I think it is worth a try.
@poison_mara I guess @stsword talks about the magic scabbard (la vaina).
And to sheathe = to put the sword back into the scabbard (which sword and which scabbard is left to the imagination of the reader ).
No idea its not a legendary element in Spain we only have the grail and the sword. Maybe because medieval Spanish hate magical things due magic = demon for them. Only religious items could be miraculous.
@Leingod Thanks! I will look into it when I can. I think the anime I saw was Stay Night, so it’s good to know there’s something better out there!
@Tehani That sounds worth checking out… do you have a link?
@stsword No plans at the moment, but who knows what could happen as the story develops.
@poison_mara As Tehani says, sheath = scabbard. I think a scabbard is a more specific kind of sheath, sturdier and for larger weapons (as opposed to, like, a knife). But there’s always some kind of dirty joke waiting to be made, since the Classical Latin word for sheath was “vagina.” There will be no magical vaginas in my game. It’s not that kind of game.
@poinson_mara There is a sentence in the Spanish Wiki about it. Roughly translated it goes: “[…] in a scabbard allowing that the King would not suffer blood-loss when bearing it on the battlefield”. -> The sheath (I didn’t know this word ^^) is a healing item.
@jeantown Hehehe “magical vaginas” made me think about sparkling vaginas for some reason. But mind out of the gutter, there is a real magic property to the sheath of Excalibur.
And link, link, link: http://fate2013.weebly.com/download.html (bottm right of the page)
OHH we have that but with potions and elixir. Cervantes play with that tradition in Fierabras balsam chapter really funny . Object could be magical in spain always come from jesus virgin or a saint . But you couldnt call magic except you wanted being burned alive, that objectswere sacred relics
In certain versions of the legend, Excalibur’s scabbard was also enchanted so that its owner could not die from loss of blood, or that wounds he took just wouldn’t bleed period. In stories where that’s a thing, the scabbard is stolen by Morgan le Fay or Mordred before the final battle at Camlann.
Hmmm… maybe extending to weapons just in general. Like later down the line, Guen has the option of picking an enchanted sword and getting +10 in swordplay or training with Morgana and getting +10 in dark magic.
I know you can already do that but having a bigger amount to symbolize that Guen is stronger.
She finds a long lost sister sword of Excalibur or learns a few nasty curses from Morgana. Just a thought.
@Taiho Actually part 2 already has something close to what you describe. I hope you’ll like it. I meant specifically the magic quality of preventing blood loss… there’s a possible situation in part 2 where that could be particularly relevant. Wait and see!
@poison_mara You will be able to acquire an evil item by the end of part 2. You may also be able to do something rather evil in the process of acquiring the evil item. But just to warn you: you will not be able to do all of the available evil/power-hungry things. Which one will you choose? mwa ha ha ha ha
I want earn something evil lol, all its so unicorn and rainbowns!, i need some dark until wait my dear Mordred grow. A ring that make easier persuade and make people easier to seduce… could be so cool.
You are so charming evil @jeantown making poor innocent Poison queen choose between evil deeds. :(( Some of them includes killing Merlin with melted poisoned Nachos? >:-)
You can’t kill Merlin until part 3. And, like I said, it won’t be a simple choice of “kill Merlin” or “don’t kill Merlin.” There will be other factors. >:)
