Guenevere (WIP)

@CrayForPottah  Thanks for playing and for telling me about your Guen! She sounds like a force to be reckoned with. ā€œSo we can question himā€ is a great suggestion, and I’ve already added it to the revised version of part 1. (It’s not live yet, but next time I update part 1, it will be there.) Can’t wait to hear what you think of part 2 when it’s done!

There’s an Otome game I like that’s not sexist or anything like that called Re Alistair ++

I know I’ve played a lot more but I can’t remember any of them atm.

Another free English (sort-of) otome VN that’s just been released is Autumn’s Journey - I’ve played it and thought it was pretty cute and fun.

Although, I haven’t liked any otome games I’ve tried as much as ā€œGuenevereā€. I guess I find good writing more compelling than pretty art. :stuck_out_tongue:

@aetheria I love English no against women Otome, but they have a great handicap there aren’t interactive and there is only q good answer. For instance, I’m playing a typical one, but in their prince is an assassin and kill my attacker so badass and psycho, the type of guy Mara is so attached well my character choice its star crying like baby about why he kill the guy that trying rape me and shoot me twice. X( I just stop reading I never would do that lol I’m not a baby hippie let me choose love the killer hot prince also wtf I couldn’t sleep with him I’m married with him!! My character 24years didn’t accept for her honor sleep with her. I just stop playing it the crappy story I’m about writing a fan fic about it for me this year nanowrimo It would be called Poison hearts and you are my main inspiration @jeantown I never would be half good as you but I at least allow more choices that those crappy Japanese otomes!

@jeantown That’s great! Will the reason why Guen does/doesn’t kill Hrothulf have a big effect on part 2, then? I’m guessing it does affect the stats, though? Or is the killing/sparing the only thing that matters to the course of the story? Feel free not to answer if you think it’ll be too spoilery

Btw I forgot to commend you for your writing in my first comment. Your writing is flawless. Sometimes lengthy texts in CS games put me off, but not yours. It’s absolutely enjoyable. I’m not all that familiar with Arthurian legend, but I don’t really feel like I’m missing anything when I’m playing your game. I feel like the game is a story on its own. I love your writing style, and I love your takes on the story. The way you portray all the characters are awesome, too. They’re all very human and believable.

Guess that’s all, then. Hehe  Magnificent job, in short.

For otome games I found that Heartstring Bugs and Frozen Essence were pretty good

I second the Re:alistair++

They’re all freeware

@jeantown but by far Guenevere is shaping out to be the best one I’ve ever played.

My Guen is a cynical idealist. She believes in all of Arthur’s ideals, but she studied tactics with her father. She has some idea of how the world actually works.
That said, she isn’t quite able to bring herself to kill a prisoner or let a prisoner be killed.
At least not yet.

@Scrivener How could I forget Re: Alistair++?! Loved that one! @shirette, if you haven’t played it, you should! And it’s free!

@aetheria I’ll have to check that one out. Text-only games do have some advantages! I love being able to leave certain things up to the reader’s imagination.

@poison_mara I would seriously love to read your story. I bet it would be fantastic!

@CrayFoPottah Guen’s reason for killing or not killing Hrothulf affects her hidden personality stats. Part 1 secretly collects personality information that can affect what options are available later on. In terms of plot, though, only Hrothulf’s survival or death will make a significant difference. Anyway, I’m so glad you like the writing! Thanks for all of your encouraging comments!

@lolli04 Thank you! I really like the idea of cynical / pragmatic Guen who nonetheless believes in Arthur’s ideals

@jeantown The intimate moments remind me of some fade-to-black scenes in the BG2 NPC romance mods, this always works. I wouldn’t have minded more explicit contents, but your sex scenes are tasteful and they fit in the story.
Okay, speaking of maturity of the content, as you already are writing about the love-spell and you won’t censure the existence of incest from the story, I guess you are on the right tracks. And as long as your characters grow with their perks and flaws, it will be alright.

Hiiiiii! I’ve been off the site for awhile and I wanted to come back and comment first on my favorite discussion.
@jeantown I dont know of the question has already been asked, but will Merlin come into the story more in further games, because I think that he could either be REALLY funny, or coild be really awesome wizard guy. So, will he come more into play?

Yep I second @Micah88’s question!
And I might add that for all the Guens I have played Merlin seems well, weird. ^^

@Tehani It’s a tough call, deciding how specific to make the sex scenes. I’ve chosen to keep them vague because I want the reader to be able to interpret them in different ways, depending on Guen’s feelings for the RO. Also, one person’ sexy is another person’s squick. Specific details can very quickly lead to someone thinking ā€œEw! My Guen would never do that!ā€ Bur the down side is that people can feel like they’re not getting the payoff they want for building up the romance. I know a lot of people are going to read the first Lancelot sex scene and say, ā€œThat was it?!ā€ but there’s only so long I can go on being vague and open to interpretation.

In romance games and games with romance, sex is often the endgoal/reward for successfully completing the romance. Guenevere is going to be different, since Guen can have sex with any of the three main ROs by the end of part 2, and there will still be five more parts to go! Not only that, but Guen caan have romantic relationships without sex. So the game really is going to be about relationships, and sex (or choosing not to have sex) is a big part of that, but not the main goal of the game.

That said, I fantasize that maybe someday someone will be inspired to write some fanfiction that fills in the specific details that make sense for their Guen. If that ever happens, I’ll feel like I succeeded as an author.

@Micah88 Welcome back! Merlin makes a brief appearance at the beginning of part 2, but he isn’t around in part 2 after that (though he may provide Guen with a little help from afar). He’ll have a more significant role in part 3. If part 3 gets written according to plan, Merlin may or may not survive, depending on Guen’s choices. If he survives, he’ll continue to be around in the background, offering occasional assistance and perhaps some training for a light magic Guen. Regardless, he will always be suitably weird.

Oh, so I could kill Merlin? Awesome >:) Die cheese lover, I could introduce it in an oven and say I was preparing a magical cheese cake :))

Omg @poison_mara ;)) ā€œDie, cheese loverā€ has got to be my new favourite line!
@jeantown please put that dialogue in if we get to (diectly/indirectly) kill Merlin! :))

@ceecrab then you would love my this year’s nanowrimo project you are with six people in a mansion you have a week to kill all except one that would be your husband wife . Its and old tradition in the Poison kingdom to the heir of the throne the event its being radiocasting to all the empire gladiators, monsters public vote gore and mild mature content.
merlin cheese scene make me think in it like a cheese adict eating it everywhere like a magical rat

@poison_mara that’s such a cool idea and I can’t wait to read it! Does this mean you’ll include cheesy (no pun intended! Or is it? ;;)) one liners before we off people? How can we kill people? Do we have to be sneaky about it or can I go stabbing people right away? Can’t wait to see the LIs you’ve planned out! This is such a cool game omg. I’m so sorry, @jeantown. Mara, you can always message me if you find that easier!

@ceecrab I would pm you I don’t want to upset @jeantown You could kill one just because its your royal prerogative. Normally under the base of ugliness, I don’t want to marry a fat minister so I just use prerogative public could vote a replacement for random killing. The others have to be a reason to kill them and die using an ancient ritual of blood magic. In the proper moment.
I would try allow diferent personalities but no goody goody in poison realm monarchy

@jeantown I was wondering if, when you are being asked how you feel about the whole marriage situation, you could add the option to be nervous? I know that if the real me was in Guen’s place, I would be terrified of not only marrying a total stranger, but being given the responsibility of being Queen of Britain.

@mara and @ceecrab Poor Merlin! But please do feel free to shout whatever insults make you happy, should he meet his demise.

@poison_mara That is a brilliant idea for a game! It sounds like political intrigue Hunger Games, in a good way. I would love to play it.

@Dark_Bear2899 It’s not live yet, but I added the ā€œnervousā€ option about a month ago. It will appear next time I update the game. I think it’s a great idea.

Thanks everyone for your game suggestions. I really like winter wolves.

@jeantown I’m glad you think my idea its interesting, also what is the secret about Merlin cheese? Is a fae cheese?
