Hey everyone, just a little progress report because I don’t want anyone to think I’m not working… I just now finished scene 4 of part 2 – yay! That’s about the first third of what you’ll see when you play part 2, though it’s less than a third of the total writing (sigh) since there will be some major branches in the second half. But Guen has now officially been kidnapped, and she’ll have to spend the next couple of scenes figuring out what to do about it.
I think now I’m going to take some time to try making a thing where you can manually enter stats from part 1 and skip straight to part 2. I don’t think I can implement saved games on my own (someone please correct me if I’m wrong), but even if I can, I figure that people may want to try going into part 2 with different sets of part 1 options, and having to play all of part 1 just to try out one different thing could get annoying. The concept will be a little like Dragon Age Keep, I guess – you’ll run through a super-abbreviated summary of part 1 and select the stats and choices that carry over into part 2. I don’t know if it will work or not, but I’m going to give it a try.
After that… on to scene 5, and some more possible bonding *ahem* with Morgana.
So, I decided to play again with a different set because of the wait for Part 2. Here is my Hybrid Mage set, being devoted to Arthur through and through.
I think there’s a way to save online games using this reeeeaaly long password thing. Being incapable of all things code, I don’t know how to make it, but I think it’s implimented in some of the older wips. Sorry to be so vague.
Yeah DB is right, the genie game that sadly died had a password to save your stats for the next chapter, so it is possible, I just don’t know how to help you do it.
I’m pretty sure that *show_password and *restore_password commands will do what you want. See http://www.choiceofgames.com/forum/discussion/639/about-save-system/p1 for discussion on how to use this functionality. While the discussion in the thread revolves around using the password within the same game (for testing), it should work with a different game just as well – as long as the global variables that you wish to retain are named the same thing in both games.
I’m fairly confident that the *save_game / *restore_game commands use the same mechanism, but require more setup (they require a cloud based database server to store the data on) and eliminate the need for the user to save a long password and enter it into the next game.
@poison_mara Good; I want to keep you as happy as possible. I haven’t completely decided how Morgana will react if Guen gets involved with Mordred… but it should be interesting.
@MacNutsAmountFive Thank you thank you! Every stat list is useful to me. I’m glad you tried the hybrid mage option; as I’m writing part 2 and trying for more combo-ish uses of skills, I’m discovering that the two types of magic complement each other pretty well if used together – though it helps if you have a tank to stand between you and the bad guy.
@Dark_Bear2899 and @stsword, thanks for bringing up the password system; I remembered that from a game I played awhile back, and I had been scouring the forum to try to find something about it… so of course many many thanks to @mreed for finding the thread I couldn’t – I am so grateful! This is going to save me a ton of time and I REALLY appreciate it.
(Have I mentioned that the people on this forum are wonderful?)
@poison_mara: Be sure to seduce both Arthur and Morgana, then murder them both and defect to Mordred. Because murdering the people who love you is fun!
Happy to report that I got the password save function to work, and it should save me a ton of time when I playtest the game. I’m trying to decide if I should include it in the dropbox version when the time comes to update with part 2 (still a long way off).
I’m worried that if I do, some of my non-CoG readers will painstakingly save passwords and then get frustrated if I revise the game and the passwords don’t work anymore. So I might just stick with manual stat-entry as a way to fast-forward to part 2. If I do set up the password system for people to use, I guess I could stick a big warning on it about how passwords may not work after a specified amount of time.
Anyway, I repeat: Everyone on this forum is wonderful.

I wonder what would happen if someone hacked @Mara’s account and came on to the forum pretending to be her. I suspect we’d all sense an impostor immediately. And if @poison_mara made another username and pretended to be someone else, would we see through the disguise?
Well @poison_mara yeah i missed your explenation thred sorry and it wasent so hard to come to that discovery i mean mara and poison just clicks.
@jeantown yeah i agree we would know that it was an imposter! And i guess if she did make another accont maybe we would know if she talked about poison all the time.
We would always know who Mara was. She’s unique and is being converted into a character for my next fanfiction. So many poisonings I could have with that character… *giggles maniacally as evil chair spins around*

Also if i intimate with Morgana will be strange deal with Mordred lol. But i would obtain the title black widow or just Sodoma Queen =))
