Guenevere (WIP)

I DO have 3 katanas, a klingon bat’leth, a rapier, a shield, a union cavalry sword, and a german broadsword in my house, and I know how to use all of them except the last 2 (because those are my dad’s and not mine) I can also use a gun, and there are a number of those in my house!

But no duels among @jeantown’s children! None!

…I guess mommy @jeantown will have to pick.

So there @NJG.

@Fallaner I’ve been here longer than you. Besides, most of my conversations with The Almighty Mother Unit have been in PMs or on Tumblr. I’m also more helpful to her, so there. I’m clearly her favorite. Deal with it. :stuck_out_tongue:

I actually have a fairly large bucket full of weapons, too. Mostly swords and daggers, but there’s a quarterstaff, a longbow, a couple kamas, and a couple other things in there, too. So I can probably match you on the weapons front (except for the guns, because I don’t like them). And I do have a black belt in martial arts (Tang Soo Do, to be specific), which included weapons training, so I think that would be an interesting duel.

Hmph! I talk to mommy @jeantown-senpai a lot on tumblr and PMs too! Hmph!

pouty glare and lightly hits @OtherGrimm

Hey guys, maybe let’s try to stay on topic here? It’s kind of a let down to see so many new posts in the Guen thread and then seeing only off topic discussions. I’m not trying to start anything but this isn’t the first time people have asked for some of us to stay on topic.

She still likes me better. sticks nose in the air

Of course, she’d never admit that in front of YOU. She’d say we’re all special, she likes each of us equally, blah blah blah, but she’d only say that so she doesn’t hurt your feelings by saying she likes me best. We all know how this works.

@attolia We’re helping Jean by preparing her to write the scenes with Guen’s child! This is what having kids is like, you know.

(Sorry.) ^_^;

Okay, the family / sibling rivalry discussion has been moved to a PM for the benefit of all. But for the record, all of my children are special and I love them all equally.

Sadly, just because I wish I could update, doesn’t mean I can/should. My main reason for not sharing the Frankmarch branch and in-progress Camelot branch yet is that I don’t think they’re very emotionally satisfying on their own. The final three scenes of part 2 will provide a ton more closure and relationship progression, as Guen gets glory or shame for her actions, reunites with Arthur, uncovers a few secrets, and can spend some quality time with Lancelot and/or Morgana. That’s what most readers are in it for, after all… the three branches are mostly just Guen doing stuff on her own; even if Lancelot or Morgana are with her, they’re somewhat in the background, because the branches are supposed to be all about Guen.

That said, given how long it’s taking me to get these branches done, there may come a point, maybe in the fall, where I do add them to the public version of the game, with lots of caveats about how unfinished everything is. I don’t know. I really don’t like sharing half-done stuff, but I also hate making people wait so long… argh.

And there’s this, too – I’d hate to give some people their first-choice path and make others wait.

That would be awesome. Or maybe a fae koi. Koi have kind of a fae quality to them already.

Well, this would be more of a planned, public-square execution by the state. With a block and a basket and an axe and an actual executioner.

Well, more like Avalon was a major gateway between worlds, but for that reason, they would indeed retreat there if they needed to do so.

She can order all she wants… what she gets in return, though, might not be what she wants or expects. Arthur learned a long time ago that ordering Merlin to do anything is pretty much pointless.

Whoa, why did I never think of that? Seriously, that’s a great idea. As with all magic, I have to be really careful, because once you give a character an ability, you open yourself to all sorts of future plot holes – for example, if Guen can become a hyena at any moment, why doesn’t she do it to escape when she’s being held prisoner for treason in part 6 – but those can usually be shored up with careful forethought. I’ve put animal transformation on my “what if” list of stuff to think about for later in the series. Thank you!

That’s basically it. Everyone dead, including Guen and even Mordred. Kingdom has completely fallen apart and Britain is overrun by invaders. That’s more or less how Arthurian legend traditionally ends, anyway.

Who is this other son, and who is his father? Will Guen also be poisoned? What a way for the Poison Queen to go, poisoned by her own son… seems appropriate.

Yes, we are kind of going stir crazy. As an author, :sunglasses:, you must know by now that while waiting for an update, the people waiting in question can get crazy and discuss off-topic stuff. :sunglasses::sunglasses::sunglasses::sunglasses::grinning::grinning::grinning::grinning:

Like the time when- well, never mind. That’s a long story.

Now back to on-topic stuff:

Hold on a moment. Isn’t Guenevere’s main purpose is focusing around the MC?

NJG looks at @Jeantown in confusion

Anyway, I’m looking forward for the update! Time to take everything from Hrothulf’s corpse!

Wait, everyone?!?!??!?? Including everyone in Frankmarch, Gaul, Byzantine, etc?

An…an…UPDATE?! It’s been SO. LONG.

I’m sure I’ll love it, no matter how unfinished it is.

Side Note…

So Arthur throws Guen in prison in Part 6?

Poor Good Girl Guen will be so hurt. All those years of love and devotion…and all it takes is one totally false accusation for Arthur to turn on her and throw her in the dungeon. The medieval dungeon. With rats. :rat:

Don’t feel bad about having a late update. It’s better to feel good about your work than to feel obligated to share it too early! We’ll be here, impatiently (but patiently) waiting. And we’ll love it if you love it.

Arthur throwing my Guen into a dungeon results in my Guen promptly throwing him into the ocean for the fish to snack on.

…She doesn’t like betrayal from Arthur and can be VERY brutal, especially when she’s so devoted to him. That could be enough to push her to help/later usurp Mordred.

Don’t. Only release content when you’re satisfied and comfortable with it.
From my perspective as a fellow writer, I really hate showing people stuff that I haven’t finished. Especially since I tend to drastically rework it a couple times and can’t bear looking at the old stuff afterwards (“What the hell was I thinking?!” ).
From my perspective as a reader, I prefer quality over quantity. I’d rather have one big update that is well done, than a lot of small ones that need a lot of work.

As an aside, personally I find that sharing my stuff with other people before it’s ready just adds more work. You spend too much time on correcting and changing the public text instead of writing new one and then just give everything a big overhaul.

(That’s also the reason why I prefer to finish a first draft no matter how bad it is and then just write it all a second time since I now know what I want to do with it and where it goes. Editing in between is evil ^^ )

Apart from that, you are still faster than GRRM and Patrick Rothfuss. That’s a good mark

Because clearly prison = betrayal. Arthur could never do it for anything that - to the best of his information (which may be dead wrong, but that doesn’t mean he knows that) - is good reason.

Oh no.

I know it’s really, really appealing to play a Guen insensitive to Arthur’s POV, but it’s still weird.

At least in regards to my Guen, she feels he should legitimately know her better than to think she would of done anything even close to treason. She’s thusly extremely hurt and not quite in the right mindset to take things from his side.
