I LOVE THIS STORY. I just started the first book today and I’m already finished with the second half of the 2nd book, just dying for more!!! You’re an amazing writer and I love the different, complex layers of character and relationship development that you’ve done. Definitely my favorite CoG story for those reasons alone; much less the well thought out story behind it!! And you plan on doing 7 books - very impressive! I hope the second half comes out soon because I cannot wait to read more! Thank you for writing such a unique and intricate novel!
what about silver ? not as easy to break and presents wealth none the less. so nice compromise
I have to ask: What is wrong with good old steel?
If you want to spend money on a weapon, then make sure it has the best quality possible, not the most ‘bling’. Between “dying with a good looking sword” or “winning with the superior weapon” I tend to choose the latter…
I’m not sure I understand this gold/precious metal craze for the MC’s armor/sword.
- How many jewels are on Guen’s crown? If there are 7 can we have 10? If there are 10 can we have 18?
- What type of jewels are there in the crown? Is Guen wearing diamonds? Rubies? Emeralds?
2b) Can we choose to customize the jewel profile of the crown? - Is it possible that instead of a crown, our Guen can wear a tiara?
I keed, I keed, but imo a lot of these questions seem to add little value to plot or strength of characterization or even the setting.
@jeantown, I am really enjoying this WiP and look forward to the Camelot arc being finished. Also have you considered publishing the work in pieces? It just seems like books 1 and 2 together are longer than most CoG games and if you are planning on going 7 books you really might be able to publish 3 times. Anyway, keep up the good work!
Nasdaxow
its more like the show of authority.
however this would be nice bling of war
example not mine
Lareneg is a great warrior who wears bling taken from the enemies he has slain and would scorn bling obtained in another fashion. His Bling of War thus announces what a Badass he is.
seriously this is Bling of War.
@NJG As @fantom says. One of the great privilges of being really wealthy/powerful is not having to think about money – at least, not in a day-to-day sense. It’s true that Arthur wants a trade agreement with the Franks and needs the kingdom to be prosperous, and Guen can also choose to work toward those goals, but neither of them spends time counting how much money they personally own. Whatever they personally need/want is just provided for them by the state. Guen will inherit lands from her father someday, but again, she won’t be responsible for managing the money.
@buggygirl11 I’m not planning to put anything on the stat screen, but there should be in-story clues, like the peasants cheering enthusiastically (or not) when Guen passes by. Her popularity will be different with different factions. I’ll be nailing down the exact factions and their representatives when I write part 5, and then I’ll go back and overhaul the earlier parts for consistency.
@jeexx95 Thank you!!!
I’m very glad you like it. I’m working steadily on the rest of part 2, but it’s taking a lot longer than I’d hoped. I’ll do my best to make it worth the wait.
@bravbrav Agree re: plot-irrelevant details.
And I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I have put a lot of thought into when/how to publish. For a while I considered publishing the first three books when they’re finished, because there will be a natural break in the overall narrative between 3 and 4. Since then, I’ve realized how much I’m going to want to go back and change once I finish the later parts. My current stance is that I won’t publish until everything’s finished, but the game will be released as a series - seven games rather than one.
This works until the bling of war hampers Lareneg during his fights. Then he is dead and his bling of war will be sold and his opponent is rich and really happy that Lareneg fought with stuff that impedes his ability even slightly. Otherwise he might have been the one falling before this proven expert warrior (when he is not hindered by Bling)
And pretty much anything that makes his gear heavier, hinders his movement, provides something where a sword or arrow could catch on, something where his opponent could pull on to disrupt his balance, or outright reduces his fighting power due to inferior quality (Gold, Silver, Diamond) presents an unnecessary risk.
Bling has no place on a battlefield where you fight for your very survival.
@jeantown Oh well.
But that’s the way it is in real life; no stats to tell you how you’re doing, just a ton of guesswork.
Besides, this will keep me motivated to read carefully during the 10th time I’ve played through a certain scene.
Nothing new to add, just stopping by to show some love to this project. :-3
@jeantown Unless I’m misinterpreting things (which is always possible
) , the narrative seems to imply that Frankmarch is a stronger, more powerful nation than Britain. So if Britain and Frankmarch do go to full-scale war…what are Britain’s chances of winning?
The same We have When My country decided send the All mighty Armada to conquer The island. Zero.
Probably French intention was never actually domain all the island when launched a so small scale attack, was more a internal movement and a steal resource strike. In medieval spain was a common thing, send troops against a no declared enemy by surprise wanting no destroy them more wanting them firm a tremendous expensive treaty and gain money , Sheeps gold etc…
I think at this point in the story, Merlin’s skill would be higher (though he tends to use Light Magic more). He’s the quintessential archmage for a reason.
Of course, that’s just a guess. I could be wrong. ^_^;
Wow, again it amazes me how different medieval Spanish culture and politics were than Polish / eastern european
But i too think that even if Frankmarch would be bigger and stronger country, it doesn’t necessarily mean it would win a war. As it was prooven many times in real history. So the fantasy world with magic and goddesses could influence outcome of such a war even more.
@Tehani Nice to see you!
@buggygirl11 Yes, Frankmarch is definitely stronger. Britain’s chances aren’t good, though, as @poison_mara says, it’s unlikely that Frankmarch would/could conquer Britain completely and just take it over. They want revenge and sheep, as Mara says. They will try to take the castle, because they want to destabilize the Britons as much as possible, and they want to be able to defend themselves when reinforcements arrive – but they’re not planning on staying long-term. Within a few weeks, they’d probably burn the castle to the ground, take all the sheep they can get, and go home.
@NJG Definitely Merlin, although, as @OtherGrimm says, Merlin prefers light magic, and when he does use dark magic (as in his tower defenses), he uses it in unconventional ways. Merlin will gladly, in his eccentric way, teach light magic to anyone who wants to learn, but he will not teach dark magic. More about that will be revealed in part 3.
Put more than twelve realms in the small territory Spain was, add to the mixture two religions than hate each other plotting during centuries add the Catholic church demanding crusades against muslims and jews and civil wars en each now and then. The fact we don’t have normal heroes like goodies, has to come from that. Each time a king treated to be honest and honorable was betrayed or just attacked for another kingdom that supposedly is a neutral or worse an ally.
We use sneaky tactics and war to unified the land , not heroism. We are similar to China I suppose they are sarcastic too.
@jeantown @poison_mara Aah, Frankmarch’s motives make much more sense now.
Sorry if it was blatantly obvious. I struggle to stay awake when history teachers talk about battle strategy.
@poison_mara Welcome back!
Your unique perspective was sorely missed (by me, at least).
@NJG That might be possible. I’m planning to rework the post-kiss conversation with Lancelot eventually.
I’m butting in here to say that I really enjoyed this game! It’s been a little while since I played it, and so my memory is fuzzy, but I remember being impressed by how much control I felt like I had over the story. And Arthur sort of stole my heart. I tried to play a cold ice queen bitch Guen, but poor Author was just so earnest that I had a hard time being mean to him. Lancelot is too persistent for my tastes. It was much easier to be mean to him.
Anyway, wonderfully written game, and I felt like you deserved to hear that I played and enjoyed this!
