Guenevere (WIP)

@Ponku
Do you think a very strong person could do it?
If yes, then the golden armor would make sence: by wearing it the King would show that he’s both extremely rich and much stronger and tougher than the average people.

@WulfyK
It is actually possible to make ceremonial golden armor using relatively thin plates of 18K gold, the final weight is about 50kg, a rather strong king would be able to wear it.

But I would never risk my life in a real battle using golden armor, a lance could easily pierce it!

If it would be much thiner than normal armour, then a strong person could wear it. But it would be very thin, and offer actually less protection than leather armour i speculate. While being much, much heavier, making it actually useles and very dangerous to wear into battlefield.

Seems like it would be more useful to gild regular armor - present the illusion of it being all gold without either the cost or weight.

I haven’t been here for a while and I apologize to all for this - But it’s so great to see how this game has developed! I hope to play the progress so far once my exams are done, but for now:

Maél is mé tó féran.

A gold armor would be indeed cool, but a bit on the useless side :laughing:

Not only gold is quite heavy, but as they said here, it’s quite weak, so it wouldn’t work very well for the battlefield. Whoever wore it either couldn’t move or couldn’t take two or three hits without serious injuries. :sweat_smile:

How about just a gold plated armor? :high_brightness: :high_brightness: :high_brightness:

Uh… probably not the lightsaber as I’m trying to maintain a certain tone… maybe a flaming sword someday? We’ll see how things progress.

Fair point. I don’t have particular plans for werewolves right now, but if they show up, I assume silver weapons will be in order.

I know I don’t. :smile:

That’s a fair suggestion. Something to think about, anyway. I don’t know that I’ll include magic item creation, since this isn’t really an RPG in the traditional sense, and I’m trying to keep that sort of thing relatively simple. But, who knows how things might progress?

I don’t think I’ll be including anything quite that specific unless it becomes plot-relevant, which I don’t anticipate at the moment. This is more of an interactive novel than a traditional RPG.

Really advanced dark magic spells, requiring rare components.

Guen’s magic isn’t advanced enough at this point for her to know how to use that stuff. Maybe someday. :smile:

@trollhunterthethird Welcome back! I don’t know how long you’ve been away, but the game hasn’t updated since last fall. :frowning: I’m working on it like crazy, though. The Camelot branch is now 50k+ words, and I’ve finally started on the actual battle scene.

As for the general gold-plated armor discussion: Gilding steel would solve the weight/strength problem, but I think (as someone pointed out a while back) the gold would chip off really easily?

Maybe with magic it won’t? :relieved:

Why are people so obsessed with gold anyway?

It is not really necessary in the story :laughing:

Because it’s shinny :slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile:

@ballmot, I think it’s because since the MC is a queen it’s kid of fitting to the MC’ position.

@jeantown, about money,

  1. What’s the in-game Britain currency?
  2. What’s the Frankmarch currency?
  3. What’s the Gaul currency?
  4. What’s the exchange rate?
  5. How much money does the MC have?
  6. Can the Mc create a diamond sword?
Yes I agree. Now I'd want to use magic to fashion a sword made out of diamond- beware the bling of war!

Diamond is the hardest thing in our world. I’ll ask it.

Diamond’s also really brittle, though. Not sure it’s impossible to make a weapon out of it, but I’d guess it is.

If I’m remembering right, the stuff people considered valuable in history was generally the stuff that wasn’t useful as an actual resource. That made it useful as a wealth marker, without worrying about the value jumping through the roof when people needed it to do an actual job.

Diamond actually is quite useless as a weapon: diamonds can cut really well, but they are quite fragile. A diamond blade would cut soooo well, but a good hit (whether it’s from attacking the enemy or just practicing with it) could easily break the whole thing.

Scratching its surface it’s almost impossible, but shattering a block of it with a hammer it’s possible, or at least that’s what my biology teacher told us.

Okay, fair enough. :slight_smile: The same is true for a solid-gold sword or a diamond sword. Magic is the answer to everything apparently.

Exactly what I’ve been asking myself for the past few days. :smile:

@NJG None of those things are really relevant to the plot, so you’re free to imagine them however you like. As queen, Guenevere doesn’t personally use currency.

@jeantown,

But, but, why? Doesn’t that seem weird? Honestly though when I saw that, I really thought that most of the MC’s responsibilities involve money.

@NJG Nope; Guen has a treasurer and servants to deal with all that stuff. Royalty has better things to do. :slight_smile:

Pretty much the same way any really rich person nowadays does things. They almost never pay for anything directly, it’s usually “My assistant will take care of it”, and I imagine it’d be similar for royalty. They’re like “I want that” and next thing they know it’s theirs, with the details having been taken care of by someone else.

@jeantown Since you mentioned that Guen can be a popular or unpopular queen, will there be any way to track her popularity?

I know a few of my Guens that will become unpopular due to not warning Camelot will be very interested in earning back the people’s goodwill, and I wonder if there will be a way to check their progress…
