@buggygirl11 The plan is that bringing Lancelot along on any of the branches will be a near-guarantee of success. Without him, I’d say Guen has a 50-80% chance of succeeding on the first try, depending on a lot of other circumstances. With him, it’s more like 95%. She has to make a fairly obvious misstep in order to fail if she has Lancelot with her. I want that to be true for all of the branches.
So Frankmarch is diplomacy and/or sneaking around, and Lance’s assistance as translator is obviously a big help with either of those things. At Camelot, there are a bunch of different ways to prepare for the battle. Guen can send Lancelot to do something she doesn’t do, which means she can end up with significant extra resources for the battle, not to mention his help with the actual fighting. And Michaelsmount is intended to feel sort of like a D&D dungeon crawl adventure (we’ll see if I can pull that off), where having someone to watch your back can make a big difference. Maybe she’ll be less likely to walk into a trap or take a wrong turn if she’s not alone? In any case, I want his help to carry equal weight on all three branches, but I also want Guen to be the hero of whichever branch she chooses. Lancelot will be providing assistance without upstaging her.
Will the spy lady (I forgot her name) go to Frankmarch to stop the war even if neither us nor Lance go with her? My whole plan was to go to Arthur myself, send Lance to Camelot to defend, and spy lady to stop the war so that all our bases are covered. How high are Lance and spy lady’s chances of success if you aren’t looking over their shoulder?
@Interestedparty Spy Lady aka Duchess Tilda will indeed attempt to stop the war on her own if neither Guen nor Lancelot go to Frankmarch. She’ll have some difficulties, but there are other factors which may help her out, so it may be possible (not easy) for her to succeed without Guen. Sending Lancelot alone on any of the branches isn’t an automatic guarantee of success, though success is certainly possible without Guen; Lance will just need some other factors in his favor.
Basically there’s a point system that determines the success of each branch, and if a branch has enough points, it will be a success even if Guen isn’t there. Sending Lancelot adds a bunch of points, but not quite enough for success on its own. Morgana likewise adds a bunch of points wherever she ends up, so if she and Lancelot manage to end up in the same place, that’s pretty much a guaranteed success. (And if Morgana and Guen happen to end up in the same place, that’s another 95% likely success, same as Guen taking Lancelot with her.)
I’m so glad we aren’t required to micromanage the situation. I hate when everything fails just because you were too busy with other things to show up. It’s like the player character is the only competent person in the game and the poor guy is surrounded by idiots.
I know spy lady want to stop the war, but I don’t (at least until My glorious victory when I could obtain a far better treaty including money in compensation for the attack) So send Barbie could achieve that. I mean I know he can’t cause a civil war by himself but I suppose he is enough skilled to delay a lot the peace . It’s sad I can’t kill Tilda and put the blame on The giant and his french noble friend That is what Mara would do.
@jeantown Thanks for clarifying things. I think I misinterpreted a blog post a little while back.
Mmm…so if Lancelot’s with you, you basically have to be an idiot to fail…but I think Ditzy Guen will manage to do it anyway.
Because the mental image of Ditzy Guen hopelessly ensnared in a glaringly obvious trap (hopefully after being warned about it by Lance MULTIPLE TIMES) brings a smile to my face just typing it.
My Ditzy Guen is incredibly successful at everything she does, but is completely oblivious to the larger consequences. “What? I won a war? When did that happen?” She’s adorable.
@Mirabella Yep, Guen will not be sent on meaningless fetch quests that for some reason nobody else is capable of performing.
@poison_mara Lancelot can probably find a way to cause a civil war on his own if he’s feeling sufficiently motivated. I’m sorry you can’t kill Tilda. I need her for later. Maybe you can kill her after that.
@buggygirl11 Ha, Ditzy Guen walking into glaringly obvious traps would be fun. I’ll see what I can do.
@NJG Good question… I guess because it never occurred to me that anyone would want to do that! It wouldn’t be difficult to add a take-everything option. Would anybody else like to be able to take everything?
“Mayhaps she thought they were one of the seven legendary sets of dirty plates!”
But anyway, if Michaelmount is a bit of a dungeon crawl I hope my versed strongly in Light Magic and Strategy but not a great fighter Guen will handle that well so she can help Arthur.
Okay, so sending lance to do something is really helpful, what about Morgana if we find her?
And are there tasks they’d be less helpful at?
I'd assume that Lance would be more helpful defending Camelot or saving Arthur than negotiating peace (not saying I think he'd be bad at it, just not as good), likewise while Morgana could help Camelot's defense with spells I'd think she'd be more useful saving Arthur or negotiating peace.
@jeantown, Yes, I’d prefer to have an option to take his hair, his knife and his family crest. Since the MC was victorious, it would only make sense to take everything.
Also, can you add an option to take a Saxon axe? I think my MC will have a collection of war trophies.
