I would not have been able to resist that urge. Do you at least have an epic cloak to go with your Vader mask?
Seeing Arthur mad would be very interesting. I find it hard to even argue with the idealistic guy. It’s like kicking a puppy…

@Durxa haha, you know what? I do in fact have a black cloak in the back of my closet, and I hadn’t thought of that. Perhaps it will make an appearance. (Sadly, I do not own a lightsaber, and if I did, it would definitely be purple.)
Then the clear answer is to visit your nearest Toys R Us and fix that problem.
I have been looking at the Arthurian legend, and I’m really, really confused
There are so many different versions and stories that it’s a bit difficult to keep tract
Right now I don’t know if Arthur’s sister is Morgana or Morgause, if he married an adulteress or devoted Guinevere, if Morgana had three or four sons (Gawain, Gareth, Agravain and Mordred)…
How do you do it to understand it?
And a little question about your game: if Arthur becomes harsher, will he still be gentle/nice towards Guen if she’s kind and loving towards him?
I think an angry Arthur would be very attractive,
I hope guen can have the option to like Arthur more after he blows up
@jeantown Shortly after I posted my Guens’ sides in the final battle, I realized that Book VII was like a decade away, and I hadn’t even posted their reactions to Mordred’s conception yet! Oops! Guess I was a little early…but the Arthur/Mordred conflict was too exciting to pass up writing about!
Well anyway, here is how my Guens will react to Mordred’s conception in Book III.
FAIR WARNING: This is another LONG post. Refill your beverage before reading.
Going After Arthur First: Good Girl Guen, Jealous Guen, Canon Guen, Fallen Guen, Evil Guen
Good Girl Guen will be shocked and devastated by what’s transpired, and want nothing more than to lay on her bed and cry. However, she can’t leave her husband alone in the state he’s in, and will go after him. Good Girl Guen will try her best to comfort Arthur, even though she’s so upset and traumatized herself that she can barely string a coherent sentence together through her sobs. Arthur and Good Girl Guen will likely spend the book getting through what happened together. Once she understands what happened, she won’t be angry or blame things on either Arthur or Morgana, and will do her best to reconcile them. Her friendship with Morgana will survive, and despite everything she will still think of her as the big sister she always wanted.
Jealous Guen will be feeling absolutely MURDEROUS towards that evil sorceress she-devil who dared to do…that horrible thing to her darling Arthur. This just confirms all of her worst suspicions…Morgana and Lancelot MUST DIE. She will immediately comfort Arthur, all the while poisoning his mind against Morgana, the wicked scheming woman who caused all this. Though she always hated Morgana for stealing Arthur’s affection away from where it belongs (with HER), now things have gone to a whole new level. Jealous Guen wants Morgana dead at her feet, hopefully after enduring the most torturous agony known to humankind. For harming her Arthur in such a horrible, sickening way, she deserves all she can devise and more. And Jealous Guen will make sure she gets it.
Question: Will Guen be able to try to kill Morgana and/or Mordred as a child? I know she can’t succeed, but Jealous Guen would certainly TRY.
For Canon Guen, this marks the end of her friendship with Morgana. She’s been hearing ugly rumors about Morgana for years, but has always ignored them. She knew that Morgana is a kind, caring person and a loyal friend, and that’s all that mattered. But when Morgana sleeps with Arthur, her first thought will be “Oh, Goddess. They were right about her.” See, Canon Guen has never studied dark magic, and knows nothing about it, but she does know about politics and court intrigue. So what’s more likely? An extremely powerful sorceress gets fooled by a SPELL…or that the king’s sister, who lost her own crown after Britain’s unification, is plotting to get her unborn child on the throne instead? Canon Guen will see this as the very worst kind of betrayal, and Morgana’s ‘trauma’ as just as fake as her friendship. She’ll comfort Arthur and try to get him to at least arrest/banish Morgana (she knows by now that he’ll never execute her for the treason she committed) before she can go through with her plan.
Fallen Guen will be shaken to the core. She’ll go through the motions of comforting Arthur, saying that of course she’s okay…but that’s all they’ll be; motions. She’s basically on autopilot, saying and doing all the right things, but she can barely hear herself…she can barely hear anyone. All she can hear is her own thoughts on an endless loop, saying “Why? Why? How could he do this? How could she do this? Why?! WHY?! I always tried to be the perfect wife, the perfect queen. I DID EVERYTHING RIGHT!! WHY…” But while she’s spiraling internally, outwardly she masks all her feelings with an optimistic smile. Fallen Guen doesn’t want to feel like this. She doesn’t want to feel the hurt, the betrayal, the utter devastation…and she especially doesn’t want to feel the mounting anger towards Arthur, the person she loves most in the world. If she ignores it long enough, if she goes on with her life and doesn’t think about it, it’ll go away. It’ll go away just like it did last time, when Arthur didn’t recognize his wife of 3 years. It will go away. It has to.
Evil Guen is inwardly overjoyed at this turn of events, and considers them to be the opportunity of a lifetime. Unlike Ruthless Guen, Evil Guen is manipulating Morgana every bit as much as Arthur and Lancelot. However, she’s known how intelligent and observant she is ever since Morgana realized something was going on between her and Lance within less than a week flat. Ever since that night, Evil Guen has lived in fear that Morgana will figure her out and destroy her. So Mordred’s conception is a perfect opportunity to turn Arthur against his half-sister and make her distrust anything she says. And once Morgana is out of the picture, Evil Guen has rid herself of anyone with the mental faculties to stop her before it’s too late…
Going After Morgana First: Confused Guen, Jerk Guen, Skanky Guen, Ruthless Guen
Confused Guen will probably be one of the most understanding of the bunch. Partially thanks to her own experiences with giving in to temptation (she kissed Morgana AND Lancelot in Book II-though she felt terrible about it afterwards), Confused Guen is willing to listen to Arthur and Morgana’s explanations rather than immediately freaking out. She will also be the most torn about who to comfort first. Though she loves Arthur deeply, Confused Guen also has strong feelings for Morgana that she continually attempts to fight and hide. She kissed Morgana on the boat in Book II, but broke things off 2 years ago after tearfully confessing to Arthur. However, I think this incident could be the catalyst to them resuming their relationship. Though she loves Arthur and has been faithful for 2 years, something in Morgana’s expression will drive Confused Guen to go after her. Then in the midst of comforting the woman who is still her best friend, Confused Guen will kiss her. For 5 years, she tried to fight her feelings, but no more. Confused Guen has fallen completely, uncontrollably, and undeniably in love with Morgana.
Jerk Guen will react with an overpowering rage towards Arthur. She already resents him for not lifting a finger to stop their forced marriage despite heaving the power to, and this incident will make her resentment turn into bitter hatred. Jerk Guen will refuse to listen to anything Arthur says and immediately run after Morgana. Through a combination of her resentment causing her to think the worst of him, listening to only Morgana’s POV (who is angry at Arthur), and pure jealousy, Jerk Guen will come to believe that the incident is entirely Arthur’s fault and hate him for it. She will also turn Morgana against Arthur, not out of any Evil Plot, but because she really believes everything she says is true.
Skanky Guen doesn’t see what all the fuss is about…at first. Her first reaction when she hears about Arthur/Morgana is “Wow, I didn’t know Arthur had it in him! Can I join in?” Of course, she’ll get serious and comfort Morgana once she realizes how genuinely traumatized she is. Once she realizes that the sex was completely non-consensual…THEN Skanky Guen will get angry. Skanky Guen will have sex with anything that moves and sees nothing wrong with that…as long as said moving object is okay with it. But rape is one of the most sick, evil, diabolical things one person can do to another. When she was 13 years old, Skanky Guen was raped by one of her father’s guards. But far from an outpouring of sympathy, she was instead accused of “asking for it” because of her penchant for wearing skimpy dresses. After months of being slut-shamed, Skanky Guen decided to be what everyone believed she was already. So when Skanky Guen realizes that some spineless fraction of a human being did to Morgana and Arthur, she will track him/her down and MAKE. THEM. PAY.
Ruthless Guen will be secretly delighted at the incredible opportunities this provides, though she’ll pretend to be all sympathy. Her plan is two-fold. First, she’ll use Morgana’s anger to turn Morgana against Arthur. Though Ruthless Guen does actually care about Morgana, she’s been completely deluded by Arthur and needs a massive reality check. And if Ruthless Guen can be of assistance in making sure she gets it, then all the better. As Morgana begins to despise Arthur, Ruthless Guen will of course pretend to be shocked by her behavior and have no idea why she’s being so unreasonable. The second facet of her plan is more long-term. The child Morgana is carrying will have royal blood and, thanks to Arthur refusing to acknowledge it, a viable reason to hate Arthur. Over the coming years, Ruthless Guen plans to groom this child to be a worthy heir to the throne. Highly intelligent, viciously pragmatic, and most of all ready and willing to BRING ARTHUR DOWN.
Run To Lancelot?: Ditzy Guen
Happy May Day, everyone!
It’s traditionally Mordred’s birthday, and the day on which Arthur tried and failed to have Mordred killed by drowning all the male babies born that day. Obviously my Arthur wouldn’t do that (even if he’s “hardened” by then), but, to answer @buggygirl11’s question, I am indeed planning for more ruthless Guens to have an opportunity to try to kill baby Mordred. She’ll fail, obviously, but maybe there will be some other interesting consequences? In any case, my Mordred won’t be born on May Day, for the simple reason that I want to set the events of part 3 during Yule court in Orkney, and May 1st is not nine months after Yule. Though I suppose I could give Morgana a magically accelerated pregnancy… hm… maybe that would work…
@Lycoris The main thing to keep in mind is that there’s no “correct” or “canon” version, just a gazillion variations. So in some versions Arthur has multiple half-sisters, and in some versions Guinevere is totally devoted to Arthur, and in others she has an affair with someone (not always Lancelot), and I think I’ve seen versions where she’s married to someone else and has an affair with Arthur. thesunfloweramazon listed a bunch of those variations a few posts up. Every author who deals with Arthurian stuff gets to say, okay, what’s my variation going to be? That’s what makes it fun.
A hardened Arthur will still be kind to Guen if they have a good relationship. His way of showing kindness might change a little (not sure yet), but just because he toughens up outwardly doesn’t mean he won’t still care about Guen and her happiness.
@Illmaster
Heh, I should indeed try to write in some internal commentary where Guen can find angry Arthur attractive.
@buggygirl11 This is great, as always!
You’re helping me plan ahead and anticipate a huge range of possible reactions; not to mention making me sooooo look forward to writing that part! (Come on, Camelot branch, get written already!) I hope that all of your Guens will be able to act in suitable ways. Running immediately to Lancelot won’t be an option, but Guen will be able to talk with him at length after talking with Morgana or Arthur.
Could “interesting consequences” include some sort of disability that could later be taken advantage of?
Maybe Mordred could magically accelerate the pregnancy because he wants to get started on his evil plans right away and nine months is just too long.
It would be so funny if a Guen who hates Arthur and his naviety finds him attractive when he’s angry.
@jeantown So it will be possible to try to try to kill baby Mordred! Yes! …um, not that I am in any way saying that killing a baby is something to be excited about, but Jealous Guen just wouldn’t be in character if she didn’t make the attempt.
Ooh, the disability @Mirabella suggests sounds interesting…
But also, Mordred seems like the vindictive type. If Guen tries to kill him as a baby, will he hate her guts forever for it? (It sounds like he’ll have a vendetta against Lancelot for a lot less.)
And now i ponder why part 3 will happen in Orkney. Solely because of Mordred’s conception or it’s just coincidence? Will Lot have anything to do with it?? Or is Orkney significant for some dark magical reasons?
But i guess that it may be too spoilery to answer that so i’ll just wait till it come
So when Guen learns about Mordred’s conception we will have two options or more? Running after Arthur or Morgana or something else to it?
Ohh, and btw to anyone who thought about buying Kotor it’s on sale now, both on gog for pc and on google play for android.
@jeantown Camelot Starz had Guinevere married to Leontes and having an affair with Arthur!
@Lycoris Basically you just start off with the most recommended books, then, once you know what versions you like, you start branching out into versions that fit the interpretations you like. That’s generally how most do it. I suggest just reading whatever sounds interesting! There is a great FAQ about getting into Arthuriana here!
Concerning Arthur’s sisters- usually there is just the two, Morgause who is married to Lot and has 5 sons (including Mordred), and Morgana, the ambitious ex-convent one married to Urien (she usually is childless or has one or two unimportant children). Sometimes they’re both witches, but Morgana is always the really talented one. They’re both Gorlois’s kids (Igraine’s, Arthur’s mom, first husband) That’s the ‘usual’ version, but like jeantown said there is no correct or canon one, and generally this ‘base’ version is changed up in every version to some degree- a lot of the time, Morgause and Morgana are fused together. I read one theory that they were ALWAYS one character but a writer at some point got confused and thought they were two separate characters.
@jeantown
Have you thought about making this accelerated pregnancy the result o a failed magical abortion, that some people here have proposed?
This would allow you to stay true to tradition and keep both his birthady and the attempt to kill him. While your Arthur wouldn’t be the one behind this attempt, but Guen could be given a choice to participate in it and perhaps Mordred would believe that Arthur was the mastermind behind it.
Who needs soap operas when you have @buggygirl11’s Guen recaps? ![]()
(Whenever I hit the point in the story with the many Guens running around, I imagine they have all gotten loose and infiltrated the canon.)
Theoretically? It’s all a question of what I can keep track of and account for, but… maybe? though tbh I’m a little leery of adding to the world’s long list of disabled villains when we need a lot more disabled heroes. Maybe a disadvantage that isn’t physical…
Maybe Mordred could magically accelerate the pregnancy because he wants to get started on his evil plans right away and nine months is just too long.
I wouldn’t put it past him.
Poor Arthur, if Guen keeps deliberately trying to make him angry just so she can see that side of him!
haha, I figured somebody should have the opportunity, even if it’s not Arthur.
I’d be more worried about Morgana.
The main reason is that I wanted a chance to show Morgana’s family at home, so we can see how her children are growing and how they relate to each other and their father. But I also want to have a variety of settings to keep things interesting and different, so Orkney for part 3, Avalon for part 4, back to Camelot (probably, though London is tempting) for the tournament in part 5.
Right now the options are just running after either Morgana or Arthur. I figure even a Guen who doesn’t care much about either one is going to want to know what happened. After she finds out what happened, she can talk to Lancelot if she wants.
Buuuuuyyyyyy iiiiiittttt everybody who hasn’t played it! It will be the best $5 you’ve ever spent, probably!
I can’t even remember if I’ve watched that one (they all blur together), but chances are good that’s the one I was thinking of.
Thanks for posting that FAQ. It reminded me that I’ve been meaning to sneak into a university library this summer and try to get my hands on that translation of the Lancelot-Grail cycle which I could never afford to buy.
Well… the issue there would be that the real reason for an accelerated pregnancy would just be to honor the May Day birthday tradition… though I suppose it would be an interesting reinterpretation of the “May Day massacre” if an attempt to kill Mordred in utero resulted in his being born on May Day, while he’d be born in September otherwise. Hm. Definitely something to think about, though I do want to be careful not to overlabor (ugh, accidental pun) Mordred’s birth because we won’t actually see it happen, so it will be described only in pre/recap. Anyway, well worth thinking about.
Seriously!
Yikes, I didn’t realize Morgana would know!
After seeing what a devoted mother Morgana is to her children in Part I…Jealous Guen is in deep, DEEP trouble…
If I were her, I’d be hiding…underground in a solid steel bomb shelter. And I’d still be worried it wasn’t enough.
@thesunfloweramazon Thank you very much!
It’s really helpful

@jeantown
Why Is Guen only allowed to internally find mean Arthur atractive? It would be funny to see how Arthur reacted if a usually uninterested Guen started trying to romance him in the middle of the argument.
I can’t picture how the learning about Mordred’s conception is goning to work. Would Arthur and Morgana immediatly know about the spell? Why wouldn’t they both try to tell Guen about the spell/act at the same time ( if they both had high relationship stats with her). Were they trying to hide this from Guen?
If we just walk in on them making mordred, I don’t know they would both flee from Guen and we’d have to run after one person (Except for the small thing my Guen has for killing or injuring those who anger her like the assassin , Hrothgar and Meliguant) .
Will the fae pet or a magic vission tell us? If they hide it. Is Morgana going to be visiting the castle with baby Mordred and she overhears the servants talking about how much the baby looks like Arthur and she goes to find the truth?
Arthur: (does something stupid)
Guen:
Arthur:

Guen: (pounces on him)
Yes. A bomb shelter wouldn’t be nearly enough. I just have to figure out how I can make Morgana’s wrath sufficiently destructive without killing Guen off right then and there. Anyway, Morgana may not know immediately. My plan is that many years of secrets can out in part 6.
Hahaha, yes, it would indeed. I’ll keep that in mind.
For that, you’ll have to wait and see.
I’ve had that scene in mind pretty much from the moment I started writing part 1, and I cannot wait to write it. It will work.
@Mirabella triple like!
