Guenevere (WIP)

@jeantown Ohh, I see…things are a lot clearer now. Poor Morgana…she seems kind of lonely. Generally disliked and distrusted through no fault of her own. Ouch. The more I hear about her life, the worse it seems.

But at least she has Arthur and Lance and maybe Guen…until the events of Book III, when they could quite possibly all turn against her too. Once she doesn’t have them either…well, why risk your life protecting a king and a kingdom who hate you? And NOW I understand why Guen’s actions will make such a difference in this.

I have a question, though. If Morgana turns evil, will she be out for revenge on all the people who rejected her?

…and I just thought of another. I mentioned how Canon Guen will be siding with Mordred for reasons posted above, yet is in love with Lancelot. How will that conversation go? (The one where Guen basically says “I love you Lance, but I’m siding with a guy that wants your head on a pike. WAIT!! I can explain, really…”) How will Lance react? Will that be the end of their relationship, or will they be able to work it out?

@Durxa omg…I already thought that Arthur and Morgana having sex was disturbing but If Arthur still has his V-card when it happens,… its so freaking more disturbing and Wrong. Seriously Arthur has all the right to go mental.

(And even more so If Guen gets togheter with Mordred later on. And Arthur decides off with their heads, AT that i would actually understand him…just poor innocent, posetiv, naive, go Lucky, non understanding lesbian, peace ironic, bestfriend that belives Lance will never do anything Wrong such as hitting on his wife… man.)

And i am not even being sarcastic…
All the feelings…

@Elfwine Sort of. Definitely aloof from friend-making, and not what Arthur really wants in an older brother – which is a big part of why Arthur latches onto Lancelot so readily.

@Durxa Yeah, I had thought of that, and it will indeed be possible for things to play out that way. As @GloriaRose says: Poor, poor Arthur… He’s in for some difficult times.

@Kinruush Agreed - Mark Meer isn’t bad, it’s just that Jennifer Hale is so amazingly good!

@Princess Kay went to Michaelsmount with Arthur (because he and Bedivere traditionally accompany Arthur on the quest to rescue the princess from the giant of Mont-St-Michel), so he won’t be on the Camelot branch. If/when I build him into part 1, Guen will probably have a chance to talk with him at the wedding banquet, and then he’ll have a slightly higher profile after that.

@FoxalypticWorld Yep. Guen will be able to talk about everything with Elaine, and they can have a positive mutual understanding about every part of the situation.

@thesunfloweramazon hahaha I have missed you and your enthusiastic all caps. I’m glad you’re excited about him and hope you’ll like what I do with him. I don’t know if my Kay will go out of his way to be nice to Guenevere, but I imagine he’ll respond positively if she’s nice to him.

@buggygirl11 Yeah, I’m trying to set Morgana up with some clear reasons to go evil if that’s what happens. She’s tried hard to make the best of her life, but it’s not the one she would have chosen. She’s given up the life she wants for the good of the kingdom (more specifics on that eventually), and she’s also used her dark magic to help Arthur in spite of the fact that it makes people distrust her. If she gets paid back by being treated as the bad guy… then she’ll be likely to say, “Fine, if you want a villain, I’ll be your —ing villain, and you’re going to regret it.” I don’t know how truly vindictive she’d be. She’s never going to make it her life mission to destroy Arthur for the sake of destroying him; that’s just not her way. She may decide she’s the hero Camelot deserves, but not the one it needs, or something like that. As for Guen explaining to Lancelot why she chose to side with his mortal enemy… that will be interesting. I don’t know yet exactly how it will play out or affect their relationship; it’s just too far in the future. But I will say that Lancelot is Lancelot, and if he truly falls in love with Guenevere, he’s not going to stop.

Yep, The conception of Mordred will be certainly traumatic experience for both of them. Morgana, who had been forced to mary some brute stranger, Arthur who try to be good and nice (and in some playthroughs is still virgin) and something like that happening to them.
That’s why my Guen will have very hard time deciding who to console and help first. And be more angry on the ones who made it happen and hurt her husband and best friend.

[What follows is the heights of sarcasm] See? This situation fully explains my truly in depth knowledge of Arthurian legend (trivia-off right here, right now!!!..not really you’d destroy me)

I knew of most of the bigger characters before playing, not Lot though, when I first read this with my damn near complete lack of knowledge on this subject, I thought Lot was a nickname for Lancelot and that Morgana was married to him. I figured out pretty quickly that I was wrong as hell but the point remains.

I (for a reason I can’t find now) thought that Arthurian legends were all rainbows and butterflies so I went into this expecting a fairly light-hearted story. Now I’m invested and really want to see what happens next, and I learn about all these horrid going’s on.

tldr version, damn you jeantown!!! You got me invested in something I wasn’t prepared for! [Shakes fist]

:scream: …backs away slowly from Evil Morgana…if she goes that route, it sounds like it’s going to be UGLY.

Will it happen straight away if she gets blamed for the events of Book III? Or will it be a more gradual process? Then again…looking at her life, it could have been going on for a long time, and being unjustly blamed for the Book III events could just be the last straw…

@jeantown Haha, YES to the vortex :grinning:
I remember a while back there was a talk about Elaine "seeing" things.
Is she fae-touched too? Psychic? Does she have more concrete visions or is she like Lance where she just has sort of a sixth-sense about things? Also, how involved in Galahad’s life can we be?

 Cool! While I was away I thought of another question! We always talk about how we’ll have the option to tell Arthur about Guen and Lancelot’s relationship (if they have one) but will we have the option to tell Arthur about a Guen/Morgana relationship?

@FoxalypticWorld A particulary cruel option would be to tell it him after Guen finds out that he slept wiht her as well. @jeantown Would this break and harden him?

@Ponku Fair warning, I do intend to make that a tough choice (whether to comfort Arthur or Morgana first after It happens), at least for Guens who care about both of them. :smiling_imp: You’ll have to try it both ways and see which one is less painful.

@Durxa haha, I do think it will be a shock for some people when they find out just how much of a tragedy Arthurian legend really is. It’s common for Arthurian stories to start out seeming happy and hopeful, and then descend into a mire of failure. I suspect that was initially to do with the medieval attitude that history is one long defeat, and the only real hope is in God, but writers since the Middle Ages have often used Arthurian legend to explore themes of failure, disappointment, and darkness. That’s part of why I thought it would make such a great interactive game – the reader gets to rewrite “canon” and give everyone a happy ending, or the reader can wallow in the traditional tragedy. Or both, or a custom-made mixture.

I wondered if anyone might confuse Lot and Lancelot at first. Arthurian names, argh! They only had like ten names to go around, and half the women are named Elaine, and there are multiple Borses, too, and don’t get me started on Galehaut vs. Galahad. Malory totally needed a better phonebook.

@buggygirl11 Morgana won’t get blamed in part 3, unless Guen chooses to hold her responsible. Mordred’s conception will be kept secret for a long time and only come out in part 6. So Morgana’s possible drift toward evil will be long and slow. But yes, being unjustly blamed for Mordred’s conception (in part 6) really could be the last straw.

@SaucyMinx Elaine has some unique magical powers that let her see specific events as they transpire – she can’t see into the future, but she sees a lot of things while they happen. (Hence Lancelot would have a difficult time hiding an extramarital affair from her, and he knows better than to try.) She didn’t absorb fae energy growing up like Morgana and Lancelot did, but she’ll feel very much at home at Avalon. Involvement in Galahad’s life… Some, mainly in part 5, I’d guess. More or less depending on how close Guen is to Elaine.

@FoxalypticWorld Yes, Guen will be able to tell Arthur if she’s involved with Morgana at the end of part 2. She should even be able to tell him if she’s had romantic and/or sexual involvements with both Lancelot and Morgana – can’t wait to write Arthur’s reaction to that.

I realized they were separate people during the battle with the Saxons, but yeah, not the easiest names to differentiate.

I imagine the opinion Morgana’s son’s have of Guen varies, but what do they think of a Guen their mom’s sleeping with? Not that I actually expect Morgana to share that aspect of their relationship with her kids.

@Durxa Yessss everyone get into arthuriana. That’s a few people now I’ve seen get into it after playing this game; it’s so wonderful. It;s a wonderful mythology with something for everyone.

@Jeantown If Kay is especially nice to anyone, is he even still Kay? XD Ahhh I would be very happy to speak with him and be rude as hell with him (or at him). Kayyyyyyyyyyyyy.

And tbh Morgana going No Good Deed Elphaba-like is extremely attractive. But Morgana being unhappy is unacceptable…Kay might be my Arthurian Lit Dreamboat Husband™, but Morgana is the Arthurian Lit Dreamboat Wife™.

@jeantown Oh gosh! What will Arthur’s reaction be when he’s told about Guen & Morgana. . Would he be more upset than if Guen was with Lancelot? Will his heart just crumble if Guen is involved with both Morgana and Lance? Aw, he’s always so sweet to Guen I always feel bad for him when she’s mean or does anything to hurt him

I imagine Arthur having a slight heart attack😟

@jeantown And what would be his reaction if Guen is sleeping with both Morgana and Lance but not with him?

Whew, it’s been a long time since I posted XD I love all of the stuff that seems to be in the works for the future! @jeantown If Morgana does become evil, will that break off the romance she has with Guen (If they were together before), or will Guen still be able to continue to romance Morgana despite her turning “evil”?

I am so afraid to hurt Arthur’s feelings i imagine i wont tell him anything until i absolutely have to. Its gotten to the point where im involved with all three of them just because they are precious babies.

I try to play Guen as very, “I am going to do what it takes to be a noble and intelligent queen.” And so she always gives Arthur a very generous amount of leeway and attempts to see him romantically, because it’s in her best interests to do so. She even convinces herself she loves him, though it’s hardly writing-sonnets-and-swooning love. If Arthur was tricked into cheating on her, she will likely just try to gracefully move past it.

Whereas Lancelot is irritatingly reminding her that Arthur doesn’t really do it for her physically, so she is like, “Okay I am acknowledging you exist and I find you very attractive but also I am not going to be stupid, even though that would be incredibly gratifying.” Guen really really wants to bone Lancelot but also knows it is a very stupid decision. And she’d rather be smart and dissatisfied than stupid and satisfied. :innocent:

Gawain and Gareth should eventually form their own opinions of Guen based on her reputation and choices. By part 5, they’ll have figured out if their mom has a romantic/sexual relationship with Guen, but I’m not sure yet how they’ll feel about it… have to wait and see more of what they’re like when they get older. There will be some major plot events that affect them in parts 3 and 5, so they should have some character development as they grow up.

Indeed. One some more time passes and the younger generation starts to grow up, I hope I can work in Kay’s constant criticism of the younger knights. Maybe he and Guen can stand around in a corner together and complain about how incompetent all these kids are. As for Morgana, I honestly don’t know if she’ll be more unhappy or less unhappy if she reaches the point of “Screw this; I’ve had it with you people.” I imagine it would be a great relief for her in some ways, though she wouldn’t really be happy running off to live in a cave by herself and plot revenge (nor will she do that).

For that, you’ll have to wait and see. (I have to leave some surprises, after all.)

Confused. Poor Arthur. (: I can’t wait to get to that scene.

@hishman13 Whether or not evil!Morgana breaks off a romance will probably depend on Guen’s own alignments and who Guen sides with in the end.

@bellamyb I hope you’re ready for some serious drama down the road

@SwanMaiden Will your Guen be able to stay smart and dissatisfied for years and years, or might she someday reach a breaking point?

Ahhhh! :scream: I can’t wait till that scene to see my poor bb’s reactions!
Obsessively plays book 1 & 2 over again :grinning:    :joy:
