Guenevere (WIP)

whistles

Sounds better in detail.

@Jaxx I didn’t want to go in too many detail. If you or anyone else want to replay a similar Guen, feel free to do so.

@buggygirl11 may I ask which one?

Fun game! I’ve already played through twice and shared this with a friend, and you’ve gotten us both to laugh out loud more than once.

@WulfyK Thanks for adding to the list! Those sound great. I’m especially happy that I’m seeing a fairly balanced variety of plans for the second half of 2.

@buggygirl11 Seriously helpful! And you’re not the first person to say something about how Guen’s possible thoughts on Arthur vs Lancelot confusion/tension are different from the available thoughts on Arthur vs. Morgana, so I guess I do need to take another look at that part. Thanks for the suggestion, and please let me know if you have any other ideas! (:

@Jaxx and @WulfyK I agree 100% with @Havenstone… just because a woman likes fighting and doesn’t want babies, doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with her body or that she would necessarily wish for a different one. At the same time, your character is your character, so you get to decide how that character feels about the gender they were assigned at birth and the cultural expectations that surround them.

@Dawn_Mason I’m so glad you like it! Out of respect for the forum rules and the other forum authors, I can’t answer questions about when updates will be ready, but I post a progress report on my writing blog at the end of each month.

@Carradee Thanks, and thanks for playing! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Please do let me know if you have any suggestions for the asexual options, or anything else. (:

@Jeantown I created this Guen to test all the military/action-loaded options. Her personality otherwise was more a by-product, since I still had to play through all these non-action scenes a I tried to imagine what might be driving hef. I am open for criticism, and if you or anyone else think that I should change something about ActionGuen’s personality tell me this and I’ll try to implement it when I’ll play this concept again.

I have a couple of similar Guens, who are more interested in combat then anything ā€˜girly’. The way I see it, the protaganist of Dragon Age Origins said it best to Sten: ā€œThey don’t want to be men. They want to be women who fight.ā€

I think all three versions of a Guen interested in combat, your (a woman who wants to fight), my original (sees herself as a combat unit, her gender is secondary but happens to be female) and @Jaxx’ (feels as a man trapped in a female body) are plausible.

I have not played this in a while (doesn’t mean i don’t enjoy it, but i tend to wait a while before replaying), but maybe i should and start listing my guens with their very… ā€œuniqueā€ (read as: my character+Guen) designations XD.

Jealous Guen, definitely. All of your Guens are great, but she’s the one that would be the most different from anything else I’ve done before. I didn’t really mention my Guen’s stats, but Goodie-Goodie Guen is talented in light and dark magic, and Rebellious Guen can kick bad-guy butt with her fighting skills.

But I’ve never done ANYTHING like Jealous Guen before, so I’m most excited to do her playthrough. But depending on how long Book II takes to finish, who knows? Maybe I’ll end up using all of them!

@WulfyK All three of those sounds totally valid to me. As I said, it’s your character, and the whole point of the game is for there to be as many different takes on the MC as possible. I just wanted to support Havenstone and @OtherGrimm in saying that an interest in activities historically considered ā€œmasculineā€ doesn’t necessitate a sense of oneself as male or wishing not to be female – but I know you know that already. (:

@Fallaner Feel free! And I’m like you; I tend to play through a game once and then, unless I reallyreallyreally want to see what happens if I do things in a particular other way, wait a while before playing again. I usually enjoy replays more if I have a little time to forget stuff.

@buggygirl11 Hope you have fun with Jealous Guen! I know @poison_mara would like more opportunities for Guen to think about how she hopes to sabotage Arthur’s other relationships. Maybe I can work that in eventually.

@jeantown lol any chance for a necro guen? Jk. I usually wait to replay for something new or enough time has passed that have some parts slip my mind.

thankyou for taking the time to write back i will keep my eye on your blog  keep up the good work its seriously impressive best of luck x

@jeantown I just have a question about Book III. During the aftermath of Mordred’s conception, will you have the option to only be angry at one of the characters (either Arthur or Morgana) and blame them for everything that happened? It may be unfair, but a few of my Guens would definitely react that way.

For example, Rebellious Guen is in love with Morgana and already deeply resents Arthur for her forced marriage. It would be very, VERY easy for her to demonize Arthur for this and hate his guts for the rest of the series. On the other hand, her relationship with Morgana is all that keeps Rebellious Guen going. If she hates her, she has nothing left.

Another example is Canon Guen. I think this situation would provide a great explanation for why Canon Guen became enemies with Morgana. She finds out that her close friend, who she trusts with her life, slept with her husband? Ouch. Of course, Canon Guen is having her own affair with Lancelot, but alas, she is a bit of a hypocrite.

Thanks for answering!

@JanusVonDul hahaha Necro Guen sounds like the sort of thing I might add as ā€œbonusā€ material someday when I give the free version a makeover for commercial release.

@Dawn_Mason Thank you! :smile:

@buggygirl11 :frowning: omg You asked that earlier and I was trying to answer so many things at once that I forgot – I’m sorry!

Short answer: Yes. While both Arthur and Morgana will be 100% innocent of any desire to have sex or a child together, they’ll each have made, arguably, a small misstep that will lead to that happening. So Guen will be able to blame just one of them (either one), both, or neither. It may be slightly easier to justify blaming Arthur, but Guen will have at least one good reason to be angry with Morgana – the sort of thing that some Guens might forgive easily and others might not.

Soo, I’ve been playing Guenevere for months and months, and finally found the courage to write in its forum section. I already fangirled about it in tumblr but I can’t help it, I’m really a big fan of you and Guenevere…what can I say, words cannot describe how much I love this game, how much emotionally attached am I with all the main characters, especially Lancelot  ; I love how flawed they are all, each of them with their own weaknesses and their mistakes, but that’s what makes them so fleshed up and lovable each in their own way. You have done an excellent job on their characterization and the slowly development of their characters as also the whole Arthurian world. When the game will be completed, I know one thing, I 'm definitely going to buy the game, no matter how many I will have already played it, the story and the characters worth it 100%; this game is already a classic for me.
Seriously, even after incredibly many replays with my different Guens I still don’t have the heart to make my Guen hate Arthur, and as a hard LancexGuen shipper (they are my old time classic otp, not to mention how much love how well you’ve written their interactions and their love and how natural they are together, and melt my heart, at least for me; although at the same time I find myself extremely love the idea of A/G/L relationship xD) I can’t resist even a single time, not to make my Guen falling in love with him, I’m hopeless. Saying this, I’m really excited for the second half of part 2 and also Guen and Lance’s interactions and the tavern fight, not to mention, that I can’t wait to smack some sense in Arthur (in a good way) after chasing the fake Guen; as much as I love the adorkable Arthur, he needs to harden a little bit. Also, I won’t lie, I’m extremely excited of Mordred and his relationship and romance with Guen. :smirk:
Now I have to ask, since no one has asked it yet, I think. In the end of the first half of part has Tilda witnessed Guen and Lance’s kiss (and more)? If yes, is she going to use to it for her own benefits and ambitions? Will Guen be able to do something about?
I’m really sorry for the long post but I just wanted to express at least once, my love and support for this amazing game.

I finished my first replay of it! Now to write down my Guen. I need to start taking notes. (Note: On mobile so i can’t do any bolding.)

My first and everconstant guen is ThaliaGuen, named after my Thalia character. She’s a tactician at heart with some slight dabbling in light magic. She is a very kind person, but she’s not afraid to be ruthless in order to accomplish her military tactics, even if it leads to a short-term sacrifice of lives, farms or other such things. She deeply loves Arthur, but she does find him to sometimes be an idiot, leading her to critizing his behavior and even once questioning his grasp of reality. She finds Arthur’s vision to be nice and all but highly impractical in reality, but she sees no need to work against it or argue with him about it. She loves Lancelot and has a celibate romance with him, but spent a lot of her time denying her feelings out of a sense of responsibility and confusion. When she did finally accept it, she refused to have anything more than a celibate romance with him. While interested in girls as well as guys, my guen was not romantically interested in Morgana, but saw her as a very dear friend. My guen is also willing to cross a moral boundary in order to obtain a tactical advantage. In the second half my Guen will be going straight to Camelot to take charge, while sending Lancelot to get Meligaunt’s sword regardless of what occurs between him and Arthur. (Lancey also needs to pick up her fae cat. Ark kinda got sent to fight Meligaunt too after being healed)

Wow that was a textdump on my phone!

This is going to be a very long post, sorry haha
I’m sooo in Guenevere - mood right now. There’s this new musical in Austria about the arthurian legends and it seems SO interesting. Can’t go because it’s too far away and it’s killing me  It also seems to focus on the relationships between the characters more than anything: Artus-Excalibur - YouTube and Artus-Excalibur - YouTube if you’re interested. I’m so sad.

Apart from that, I’ve been replaying Guenevere like twenty times, it’s just so much fun. Got like two or three main Guens right now. Can I talk about them please? :bird:

unhappy / egoistical Guen – she’s miserable and angry about having to marry Arthur and becoming queen. Wanted to travel the world and do awesome stuff. She’s ice-cold and bitter, and really mean to Arthur and Morgana since she blames everyone involved for her situtation. Values her personal freedom over everthing else and feels like it’s been taken away from her, so she’s not interested in her duties as a queen and wife (responsibility: 0) and doesn’t care about Britain at all. She’s also reaaaly egoistical, which makes her so much fun haha. Fell in love with Lancelot though, and I plan to have her break down when he marrys Elaine. So excited for this. I hope I can make the people of Britain hate her, lol. Going to send her to Frankmarch, since she’s hoping that an alliance with Grimald will give her some independence.

devoted / worried Guen – is absolutely in love with Arthur and believes in his values, but never learned how to stand up for herself. Smiles all the time and has a reputation for being convival and kind, but is actually more than scared about being queen and therefore relies on Arthur too much. Doesn’t really know if she actually believes in Arthur’s vision or only feels that way because she loves him, but I think she’ll find out in the next book maybe that the world will never be like that. Has a clear image on how everything should be and if things don’t go the way they should, she can get really emotional (e.g. attacking Lance). I plan to have her gain much more confidence during the next books, still wanting to support Arthur while keeping him on the ground. She’ll go after Arthur, while Lancelot will search for Morgana.

ambitious / clever Guen – she deeply cares about Britain and her people, and their well-being is always her highest priority. She can sometimes be a bit ruthless, but always believes that what she does is necessary. Doesn’t have any feelings for Arthur, but will still pretend to love him since she thinks it’s the best for her kingdom and that it’s better if he’s on her side. Not sure if I’m going to make her fall in love with any of the characters, but right now she thinks there are more important things than that. Has an ā€šwith us or against usā€˜ (us being Britain) attitude towards many things and will try to use her charm and beauty to her advantage. Cares about all three NPCs and wants to protect them from any harm, but will always feel like she’s more capable than them to rule the kingdom. Will go to Camelot and send Lancelot to Arthur.

So yeah, these are my three main Guens and I looove them. I’m so excited for everything that’s yet to come.

Oh my word, I love this WIP. Soooo much, @jeantown you’re fabulous.

While I know that this isn’t a ā€˜happy ending’ story, and while I really really want a solution where Guen can have her kid with Arthur and they live happily ever after…it won’t happen.

But I love the idiot too much.

Can we please have some form of situation where Guen rescues Arthur, hits him over the head, then starts bawling, calling him an idiot as she shakes him back and forth before hugging him? the feels

So cute. :frowning: But I love Lance too! And Morgana! And my cat Fluffikins the Third!

Why do you do this to us, you amazing writer you? :sob:

In a less emotional state, I say: Yay, you’re epic! I love that there are so many ways to influence the story by having it simply character-emotion-personality driven! It’s fantastic, and it works.

THANK YOU SO VERY VERY MUCH!

Hiya, just jumping on the ā€œIntroduce your Guen!ā€ bandwagon.

Calculated, but fun-loving Guen: She wasn’t too sure how to feel about being queen at first, but was pretty happy to go along with it - even if it was just for laughs. Then she realised that she gets a serious kick out of being queen and wants to enjoy it as much as she politically can. This Guen just wants to have fun, but she recognises that overindulging is a glowing vulnerability for enemies to exploit.

That said, she specialises in dark magic (which is kept a guarded secret from as many people as possible) and isn’t half bad when it comes to leading armies and such. She had Hrothulf executed in attempt to discourage future attacks and lied to Arthur about it. She believes in Arthur’s vision, but she’s not sure if his method of achieving it is realistic enough to put into practice - even in hundreds of years time.

She’s bisexual, polyamorous and wouldn’t hesitate to pull a few strings, manipulate a few individuals and bribe servants to keep a tight lip, so that she can sleep with Arthur, Lance and Morgana. Her current ambition is to get in bed with both Arthur and Lance at the same time.

In Part II, this Guen will head over to Michaelsmount in attempt to both call Arthur back (and to seize Meligaunt’s sword). Lance will be sent back to Camelot to anticipate the invasion.

Like a few others, I also have a goodie two shoes Guen and a manipulative-because-hahaha Guen. The one above is my favourite to play, though!
