Guenevere (WIP)

@Kinruush ack, thank you! That sometimes happens when I merge parts of dialogue into other parts of dialogue, and it can be really hard to catch just from proofreading the code. Should be easy to fix for the next update. Very much appreciated!

Found another, though I only noticed it as I was leaving the page, so I don’t have a quote. Toward the end of what’s available, Guen says that she’ll “covince” them somehow instead of “convince.”

You know, despite the many times I’ve played, there’s one question that’s always bugged me every time I play this game that I really should’ve asked a long time ago…

Tell me…

How likely…

Is Guen gonna get pregnant in book two?

Seriously, according to the monologue in the beginning of Book Two, Guen and Arthur have been at it EVERY SINGLE TIME THAT THEY’VE MET, or at least, a lot of times, so there’s gotta be some chance of getting pregnant…

Well, I just don’t remember the exact @jeantown quote. But there’s no way Guen have children before Mordred, due dynasty and drama reasons. Also I think Guen could have problems to have a baby in certain circumstances.

I have sex with Hippie each time I have for very different reasons there are two ways of fool a man to obey you one is keep him well feed and the other… in Spanish we have very funny innuendos saids about that. If you like Isabella dragon age 2 saids about big boats and that is based on us.

@Kinruush Thanks again! Found and fixed locally. Let me know if you spot anything else – part 2 still needs a lot of proofreading.

@Jaxx hahaha, good question. Guen/Arthur having infertility problems is often a part of Arthurian stories, and while they will be able to have a child of their own in this version, it’s not going to happen without some extra measures. Guen will have to decide if she wants to take those measures in part 3, and if she does, the baby will be born at the beginning of part 4 (at least, that’s my current plan). @poison_mara is right that Mordred’s conception may be something of a tipping-point for Guen and Arthur’s own decisions about having children. As for big boats… I have no comment.

After more than a year, I’ve FINALLY delurked!

First, I just want to say that Guenevere is AMAZING and probably the best Choose Your Own Adventure game I’ve ever seen! I’m anxiously waiting for the sequel!

Instead of playing as one Guen, I’ve always had many, MANY Guens. Right now I have 8 or 9, and that number will likely grow ever larger as the game progresses!

  • Goodie-Goodie Guen was unhappy about being forced to leave home to marry a stranger, but quickly fell hopelessly in love with Arthur. She’s not stupid, but has a childlike immaturity. For example, she realized bringing the sheep into the castle was a bad idea, but quickly forgot her misgivings when she began chasing and playing with the cute little sheep. Goodie-Goodie Guen has easily forgiven Arthur for his mistakes so far, as they’ve mostly been accidents, but Mordred’s conception will likely be her breaking point. I’m picturing a mental breakdown here, made worse by the fact that she considers Morgana her best friend.
Goodie-Goodie Guen believes in Arthur’s vision wholeheartedly, and wants to do everything she can to achieve it.
In Part II, Goodie-Goodie Guen is going to Michaelsmount to save her husband from being maimed, and sent Lancelot to make peace with Frankmarch.

  • Canon Guen (where I try to play as close to the original stories as possible) views it as her duty to marry for the sake of her country. However, Arthur’s immaturity makes her think of him more like an annoying kid brother, rather than a husband. She likes him and thinks he’s a good person, but the sexual attraction is non-existent. Canon Guen fought her feelings for Lancelot for 3 years, but gave in when he rescued her from Meligaunt. They admitted their love for each other, and had sex for the first time.
Canon Guen believes in Arthur’s vision, but thinks of it as a long-term goal, and wishes Arthur would be more practical in the present (like NOT pardoning the rebel barons or executing Hurthoff).
In Part II, Canon Guen is going to Camelot (along with Lancelot) to save as many lives as she can by getting her people prepared for the invasion.

  • Ruthless Guen (thanks to Poison Mara for the inspiration) originally viewed Arthur as your run of the mill weak king, and planned to rule behind the scenes as the power behind the throne. But when she heard Arthur’s vision, she was horrified. When Ruthless Guen thinks of democracy, she envisions a group of incompetent buffoons arguing over what to do while THE KINGDOM BURNS DOWN around them (kind of like a medieval version of the U.S. Congress). From her point of view, a country needs a strong ruler who can make executive decisions in order to survive and prosper. After she heard Arthur’s vision, Ruthless Guen vowed to do whatever it takes save Britain from this incompetent king. But though she inwardly detests Arthur, she will act like a loving wife in every way…until her time comes. Ruthless Guen is also having a good laugh at stringing Lancelot along (he even told her he’s in love with her) and turning him into her devoted slave. She does genuinely care about Morgana, who is her best friend, but that doesn’t mean she’s above manipulating her if the situation calls for it (such as turning her against Arthur in Part 3).
In Part II, Ruthless Guen will go to Camelot and save the kingdom from the invasion, and in doing so attempt to prove to the people that she would be a better ruler than Arthur (who is nowhere to be found).

  • Ditzy Guen is…not the brightest bulb (Intelligent: 0!). She was thrilled to be queen, and got even more than she expected when she fell in love with TWO dashing gentlemen (Arthur and Lancelot). Arthur’s so sweet…but Lancelot’s so hot…but Arthur gives her such pretty jewels…but Lancelot’s victory trophies are so romantic…how could she ever choose between them?! Ditzy Guen instantly disliked Morgana, who she saw as a wet blanket to spoil her fun, and Morgana almost as quickly disliked Ditzy Guen for being an idiot.
Ditzy Guen doesn’t know much about Arthur’s vision, nor does she care. She tunes out whenever boring subjects like politics come up.
In Part II, Ditzy Guen is going to Michaelsmount to save Arthur, preferably while making out with Lancelot along the way!

  • Skanky Guen was created because I wanted to see if a Guen could be involved with every. single. romance option. She basically ignores Arthur…except in bed, where she is insatiable. Skanky Guen has no real feelings for Lancelot, but she loved “taking off his armor” in Book II. It had to be the best time she’d had in years. But despite originally only getting involved with Morgana for the same reasons she’s gotten involved with everything that moves since she was 12 years old, Skanky Guen is beginning to have genuine feelings for her. This showed when she decided to go after Morgana to make sure she was alright.
Like Ditzy Guen, Skanky Guen couldn’t care less about any “visions” her husband may or may not have.
Skanky Guen is going after Morgana, because she’s horribly worried about her despite herself, and has to find out if she’s okay.

  • Rebellious Guen was outraged at being forced to marry a stranger against her will, particularly when her father utterly ignored her sexual orientation and picked an opposite-sex partner. She resents Arthur for being a constant reminder of all the choices that were taken away from her. She told Lancelot she wasn’t interested in men in Book I, and tried to be “just friends” with him. But after he kissed her against her will, any “friendship” they had is OVER. However, Rebellious Guen found love with Morgana, and will sacrifice anything to keep the only good thing in her lonely, miserable life.
Needless to say, Rebellious Guen is going after Morgana. She sent Lancelot to warn Camelot (save the people AND get that creep as far away as humanly possible=WIN!)

  • Evil Guen is after one thing…power. Since she was tragically (and highly unjustly) not born into a royal family, being queen to a weak king sounds like the perfect setup. She’ll let Arthur carry on with his delusions, and simply rule behind his back. Like Ruthless Guen, she has quickly turned Lancelot into her obedient, devoted slave who will do anything she asks. Evil Guen pretends to sympathize with and be a friend to Morgana, but she is really only a valuable tool (the most powerful dark magic user in the entire kingdom) at her disposal.
Ruthless Guen is going to Frankmarch to make a powerful foreign alliance, and taking Lancelot with her to translate.

  • Lastly, we have Confused Guen. She was happy to get married and hoped she would fall in love with Arthur…and she did. What she didn’t expect were her growing feelings for Morgana and her undeniable physical attraction to Lancelot. Confused Guen tried to fight off those feelings and stay faithful to the husband she loves, but gave in on the boat in a moment of anger (at Arthur for not recognizing his WIFE of 3 YEARS) and weakness and kissed Morgana. When Lancelot kissed her, she told him that she just wants to be friends…a split second after she kissed him back. Yep, Confused Guen is in a LOT of trouble! I can’t wait for the drama when she comes clean!
Confused Guen is going to Frankmarch to make peace, because she’s too ashamed to face Arthur or Morgana right now. She sent Lancelot to save Arthur, but she can’t bear to look him in the eye herself.

I have a question, though. In Part 3, during the aftermath of Mordred’s conception, will you have the option to only be angry at one of the characters (either Arthur or Morgana) and blame them for everything that happened? It may be unfair, but a few of my Guens would definitely react that way.

For example, Rebellious Guen is in love with Morgana and already deeply resents Arthur for her forced marriage. It would be very, VERY easy for her to demonize Arthur for this and hate his guts for the rest of the series. On the other hand, her relationship with Morgana is all that keeps Rebellious Guen going. If she hates her, she has nothing left.

Another example is Canon Guen. I think this situation would provide a great explanation for why Canon Guen became enemies with Morgana. She finds out that her close friend, who she trusts with her life, slept with her husband? Ouch. Of course, Canon Guen is having her own affair with Lancelot, but alas, she is a bit of a hypocrite.

Thanks! Sorry if this was WAY TOO LONG. I had a lot to say (lurking for over a year, remember?).

It’s great I inspired someone to role play a character remember use poison everywhere you can :smirk_cat:. I recommend you being a charismatic as main skill is the one which made the job for a ruthless leader Guen.

@buggygirl11 aaaaaaaaa Thank you so much for delurking!!! I LOVED reading about all your Guens. Seriously, I need that! When I’m writing dialogue and choices, it helps so much to be able to think, “Okay, is there something for Ditzy Guen here? How about Ruthless Guen?” I will come back to your post and read it again in the future, when I’m trying to make sure to have options for as many personalities as possible. I’m so glad that you like the game enough to play it that many times, and so grateful that you took the time to write about it! Many many thanks!

EDIT: Also, if you’re playing that many different Guens, and you notice anything in the writing that seems like it’s the wrong tone for the Guen you’re playing, please let me know so I can try to make things more consistent. (:

An excellent list. I have played most of them except skanky Guen and Confused Guen.

In addidtion, I have played some Guens that don’t fit this pattern:

-Action tomboy Guen. She likes fighting, battles etc. She doesn’t like girly stuff like like romancing Lance. She does her duty in Arthur’s bed but doesn’t want to get pregant She might eventually sleep with Morgana though. In part 2 she’ll go to Camelot.

-Jealous Guen. She loves Arthur and wants him for her and her alone. She is extremely jealois at Lance and Morgana. Once she find out about Mordred she’ll go crazy and will try to kill Morgana in the most brutal way possible. Will go to save Arthur in part 2 she’ll send Lance to Frankmarch hoping that he’ll get killed there.

-Loony Magic Guen. Might be either more dark, more light or balanced. Would have preferred to become a witch but obeys her father. Is best friend with Morgana and benevolent towards Lance. The light magc version wants to help Arthur to fulfil his dream.
Will go after Morgana in part 2.

Wow. Just wow. That is honestly impressive.

I’ll be honest here, in a game with a (planned) grand total of more than five books and about a million words, I don’t even bother trying to make more than one character (though I do keep replaying a lot), to think you would actually try to make eight…

I am honestly impressed.

Soooo basically, you made:

1.) A Guen that somehow got her gender wrong on her birth;
2.) A Yandere Guen; and
3.) … wait, gimme a sec, I have no idea what to call this one.

Poorly phrased, even for a joke. Sure, that’s the way most cultures talk about people who break lots of gender expectations; but one of the great things about the last century has been the steady erosion of the idea that such people are “doing their gender wrong” or should have been born the opposite sex.

WulfyK’s Guen1 could rightly retort, “Says who? I’m a woman who prefers fighting to pregnancy, thinks romance is a waste of time, and I’m attracted to women. That doesn’t make me a man.”

I see your point there. Fair enough.

@jeantown Wow, I just thought I was rambling on…who knew it would actually be helpful!

There is one thing I noticed…at the end of Book I, when you say how you really feel about Arthur, Lancelot, and Morgana, there are plenty of options to say that you have feelings for Lance but are fighting them (“I can’t think about it. Arthur is what matters,” and the like) but no options like that for Morgana. Confused Guen genuinely loves Arthur and wants to be faithful, so it seems VERY out of character for her to be planning to have an affair with Morgana from the get-go. But it’s the only way to turn the romance on.

@poison_mara I’m having tons of fun with Ruthless Guen! Playing evil is great when nobody actually gets hurt! I don’t know if I’ll ever reach your impressive standards of wickedness, but I’ll do my best!

@Jaxx I never really feel like I’m finished with a game at all unless I try all of the options (or at least as many as I can think of, in this case). I honestly thought everybody was like that until I started reading the forums and realized that 1-3 Guens was the norm.

Although…I never really thought about how long it will take when the game is in it’s finished million+ word glory…gulp. :scream: Well, it will definitely be a labor of love.

@WulfyK Your Guens sound awesome! I will definitely be ste…ahem…creatively reappropriating at least one of those Guens!

Well, you must have an impressive amount of willpower and endurance to do that, and you’re gonna need more when (or if) all the books are gonna be finished.

when is this getting an update as its my favorite game on here, cant wait to play it in full x

@Jaxx, @Havenstone “born in the worng body” isn’t wrong. I’ve created and played her to explore the all-military path.

To give her some personality, I imagined that she has been raised like a boy by her father and didn’t mind it. When he told her to marry Arthur she likely responded with a “Yes Sir!” and no second thoughts. She doesn’t want to get pregnant because 1. It would keep her from doing action stuff. and 2. She believes that Arthur is weak and their child would be weak too.

She would never actively romance Morgana herself but could engage in some casual sex with her if Morgana asks her, like she had casual sex with other girls, but not with men to avoid unwanted pregnancy before marrying Arthur.

Still, this Guen is female and may discover her feminine side later. But now, if you asked her if she’s female or male she would say something like “I’m a warrior. I have a mission to do. My gender DOES NOT MATTER!”
