Guenevere (WIP)

We know what causes infection, for example, or at least know where to look it up if we as in the individuals having this discussion don’t.

How, with the unaided human senses, are they supposed to come up with an effective response when they don’t even know what is there needing to be dealt with?

I have trouble calling it a sign they were just incapable of rational decisions.

I’m not disagreeing with you here. I’m simply saying that when you look back on such things MOST people tend to say “Wow… that’s dumb”, because they have knowledge and information that people in said time did not have. I’m not saying they were incapable of rational decisions, i’m really not saying that at all. A lot of things are dumb in hindsight, because now you know things that you didn’t know back then. However, that doesn’t stop you from calling yourself an idiot for such a mistake, does it? Same thing here, not saying they weren’t capable of rational decisions, just that when looking back on it with what we know now, people think its dumb.

Of course It is not a good thing but it’s how people believed and thought. It is not far away from Salem trials or exorcism that still being done nowadays.as elf said they were no stupids. Same as stone age people weren’t stupid even before discover fire or create a language. they didn’t have our modern science and never saw a bacteria or virus. they just knrw bible and demons to explain things, they did bad stuff but they weren’t stupid or crazy

Actually, to see how the medieval characters deal with STDs or any illness that they don’t understand but that is well known to modern readers would be an interesting thing, particulary in a choice of Game. @jeantown will the game feature any non-sexual diseses or illnesses?

@poison_mara To make the king more able to have babies? Didn’t medieval people blame only the woman for a couple’s infertility? BTW, what was this method? You can write it as a spoiler.

Fair enough.

I think we need to acknowledge that with the information they had they were trying to make rational decisions, though. Sometimes it looks like their understanding of the world was so skewed that delusional is probably the only accurate word, but simply talking about believing demons existed being that is unfair.

I’d have a hard time saying that bacteria as we know them aren’t something that sounds like evil spirits, and I say this firmly in the 21st century.

I agree with @fallaner that they are stupid in hindsight.
They couldn’t have the understanding of what causes disease.
That doesn’t excuse burning people at the stake but still.
They were ignorant in every sense and stupid in hindsight.
But I still don’t know how they came up with stake burning though.

But i’m biased against any ignorance or stupidity I see.

I’m not saying they were stupid or crazy for the time… I’m just saying… that when thinking back on such events while knowing of alll this modern stuff, MOST people will say their idiots!

@Elfwine In regards to evil spirits, I can firmly say they don’t seem that way to me. However, that’s because I don’t believe in spirits or anything of that sort, so to me they just seem like bacteria as they have been described.

Can you all please stop misrepresenting what I’m saying already?.. They are stupid in hindsight… that’s it…

@faewkless
Mara explained it better than I can.

Edit: I’m not fond of ignorance either, but I’m not fond of the assumption that their ignorance was somehow something they could have controlled but didn’t.

@Fallaner Point. But if you do believe spirits exist, or could exist, a description of how bacteria operate wouldn’t be a bad description of how an evil spirit would.

Viruses definitely sound like how a being intent on screwing over someone in the most malicious way they could would - “taking over their own body to turn it against them”? Very creepy.

No no in spain. whe made our princes have tons of lovers since early age. basically to see if the stuff working or not. if there were no bastards and no hard … they were remedies. I think i already tell that if Arthur were virgin and didn’t know how work. Guen could shouting “Impotent” Matrimony rato non consumatio weeding is broken within Pope agreement. That’s why in the bedroom were present at least 3 people one ambassador from each state and a bishop

Certainly it’s creepy and can seem that way to people who are religious/believe in such things. I can certainly see how they would view it in such a way, though only if they didn’t quite understand science. Really sorry, but in my opinion science more or less debunks such things pretty easily, and if someone is insisting they exist I ask for proof, because it’s really easy to prove something doesn’t exist (I mean, no one says unicorns really exist but no one has seen a unicorn. It’s because no one can produce evidence to show one exists that we can definitely say they don’t, because if there was any evidence of it, in any form, then it exists), so if you say something does exist you must prove it, me disproving it is me saying “There’s no proof it even exists”.

This was a ramble. I apologize.

Note on ignorance: Not saying they could control it, however in the view of the modern era, they were ignorant, compared to today. People in the future will undoubtedly call all of us ignorant too, if that’s of any help to your conscious.

@Fallaner I’m going to sum it up for discussion’s sake (I’ll gladly PM you if you’re interested):

If 99.8% of us don’t have ESP, and 0.2% of us do, how exactly do you explain how you qom something to someone who doesn’t have a sense of Qo (qom to Qo as see is to sight)?

It’s not something I’m prepared to say is absolutely impossible.

I don’t believe earth has any unicorns - they would register (at least imperfectly) with sight, sound, etc. - even if we just saw horses (Cookie for everyone who gets the reference). I wish it did, but it doesn’t seem it does.

Disease being caused by bacteria and viruses falls into this category, but “Science disproves magic” isn’t something I think is wholly accurate as long as the first question exists. Ignoring definitions of magic being like sufficiently advanced technology, since that means science makes magic for a given definition of instead.

As for ignorance, I don’t mind you using it - I just mind how fawekless put it. Anyone not omniscient is ignorant somewhere, as you said better than I would’ve.

just tried it…very impressed not normally my sort of genre, but so well written and personal to the player I love it :)…like tinstar, don’t normally like westerns, but like that due to it’s quality.

D…did our talking get someone to notice that this kept staying at the top(ish) of the activity list or something?..

Or did they just randomly take a look at various WiPs? …I’m confused on how most people tend to find stuff in this site (and i’ve been here for too long to still be ignorant about this)

Well earned attention for Jean’s game, either way.

I tend to look at stuff specifically catching my eye, or recommended, which probably means on top only in that its visible first and I’m lazy.

I tend not to read anything new myself, so I just read what caught my eye every once in a while when I look at new stuff (or the new topic is something i’ve played in regards to a COG, like the Guns topic)

…Dangit me typing stuff led to me dying in starbound D:

Dang new computer making me having lost all my progress because I forgot to transfer the save files over D:

New things are not as interest catching as known things (some think the other way, but I’m glad it’s not just me).

Darn new computers.

I just or post where i love game but also post in random places i pressing randomly because Mara is Chaotical evil

Do you mean chaotically random? grins and ducks to get out of the way of the likely rebuttal

chaotic = random  Anywayyou could say randomly poison if you want.

Are you going to randomly poison all the Arthurs once Mordred is around?
