Late to the party but Burn Contract sounds pretty cool. Both of them do, but I just personally think Burn Contract sounds cooler.
But I mean the current discussion seems to be about the other game. So. Like. It sounds unique. And potentially fun.
I like both games though leaning on the whole burn contract thing since the idea of a demon trying to coerce this schmuck into giving his soul away. Hell er no pun intended I roleplayed as a Demon Host once in an rp… ANYWAY I uh like the idea of being the demon finally!
As for 100/50 lives well i like the whole reincarnation thing to be with your soulmate… In fact i’m pretty sure there was an old probably 90s movie about this guy who came back to life (albeit with no memory of his last life) so that he can be with the woman he loved.
So yeah i’m already thinking of going with the whole. “I’ll let the world burn so that i can be with you.” Granted 100 lives or 50 lives seems too many a chances for one man or woman or nonbinary. Taking into account that one lifetime COULD be 100 years so chances are unless we get murdered or die pretty young that’s at least 5000 years though i might be overthinking this but yeah 100 chances seems a bit too much and might also be kind of like… Painful? Annoying?.. Who wants to suffer through highschool 100 times we’d be freaking geniuses compared to the rest of humanity (you mentioned how we don’t forget.)
Either way I like them both even if i’m leaning on being an evil demon. Both seem to have potential and i can’t wait to try them both out.

I understand completely! But something I didn’t entirely explain in the original concept is that this takes place in a different “universe” (basically just meaning it’s a fantasy story), the life expectancy is significantly lower, and it occurs during a time of war. So it won’t just be high school repeatedly.

So will we be forced into participating in the war depending on who we are?
These don’t sound too bad, but I’m actually more interested in you Switch game, it had some nice artwork in progress and seemed to have good potential for some more lighthearted and funny scenes with witty banter.

It’s hard to say with no uncertain terms, since I’m only beginning to outline the third life, but it looks to be that you’ll have strong incentives in most lives to participate in one way or the other. There will be societal expectations (depending on birthplace) for some sort of action, but you can try to support your own beliefs no matter what.
Let’s say that the character you’re playing believes that the colonizing should prevail in the war, because it will prevent problems down the line. If you’re born into a life in the land being colonized, the people will expect you to join a rebellion, but you can betray them.
Does that make sense?

I haven’t abandoned that game. I’m just working on creating plots for these, since I know they will probably take longer to map out. Also it’s just very difficult for me to work on one thing for a long time without getting into a rut.

@leo, yes, that makes perfect sense.
Maybe you could have timelines in which it turns out you’re a costly spirit instead of a demon?
A certain JRPG series has put angels and other spiritual things under the demon name though. If you want to argue about that I’m not the one to point it at.
Count me as another vote for Burn contract then, being a wickedly sophisticated demon leading foolish mortal humans astray sounds fun.
I vote for option 2. It sounds really, really original, whereas I feel like there are several demon-ish games that are floating around on the forum already. I think the concept of living through 50 lives has a lot of potential to be really interesting.

We aren’t going to have to deal with bring reborn as something other than a human are we? It would suck trying to woo my soul mate as a strain of Toxoplasma gondii

LOL. Absolutely not. I considered it (my inspiration included animal reincarnations as well) but I think that it wouldn’t suit the story and there would be little actual storyline impact from playing something inhuman.

I’m almost afraid to ask, how much will the soul mate change from life-to-life?

Mm, the soul mate will remain the same person at their core, but the environment they grew up in will affect them.
I’m not set on a personality yet, but let’s say for example that in their first life, the soul mate is “neutral good” alignment and is very caring towards others, and tends to act like an older sibling and tends to sacrifice themself for the good of others. They grew up in a position of authority and power in the community, so this makes sense.
If they are facing an enemy trying to antagonize someone they care about, they will put themself in the way of the blow.
In the second life, let’s say they grew up more powerless. They didn’t have anybody to really watch over or take care of personally. They would still be “neutral good” and care about others, but they might be more into self preservation and more willing to do what it takes to survive.
If they are facing an enemy trying to antagonize someone they care about, they will attack the enemy, even if they know they can’t win.
I’m not sure if those are good situational examples. I tried.

I realized that the “even if they know they can’t win” part contradicts the self preservation. Oh well.
I don’t know if is too late but i vote for the demon game idea. One life is boring enough for me.
I LOVE the idea of the second one! very unique and stylized! Though I have to wonder if there will be an outside force drawing them away from the other. other than the Gods at least. maybe someone else is after your other half?
