Vaska Nadezhda is she Russian or something like this? Vaska its man first name in Russian, Belorussian and Ukrainian language. And Nadezhda its first women name. So her name sounds like John Betty

@Arcane_warrior @augustus27 @The_Lady_Luck Thanks for playing! Apologies for the slow release, college is tiring, but there’s a break soon so I can pump out an update then.

@Vattena Thanks for the corrections! I’m not sure who will be a RO yet. I’ll probably take some time to think bout this as I’m not sure who will be killed without a choice and who will be killed with a choice, if I do this at all.

@Umbreonpanda Well, I stated in my past posts and I don’t think it’ll change but you and a few others you choose will be alive by the end. You won’t ā€œdieā€ unless you intentionally throw yourself at the bad end.

@Sano Never played the game, but heard good things. Indeed, this game will most likely tread on the immoral and grey areas. I’m still debating whether to go all out scum or hold back a bit.

@Andras Thanks! Glad to know making so many victims was worth it, it’s really tiring to fit them all in in some scenes and making some of them kill able or not…well that’s another level. The motivation is still undecided, as should I make it just cause we can which has less of an impact or a ā€œjustifiable reasonā€?

@Bugreporter Thanks. Fixed, will update soon.

@fluggegecheimen Yeah…the idea was a Russian name. However, I know next to no Russian so I just got it off the web. A good Russian name for a woman is helpful if anyone has any. Even better if it’s a special name that can fit with the personality.

A little bit off-topic but does anyone know how make the game transfer to another text file? For example from prologue text file to Ch 1 text file, if anyone understands what I mean.

Just how few people can survive and what exactly are the criteria for survival anyway? I mean, presumably if your MC is doing this they have a reason and a goal other than just cartoonish cruelty. In horror movies like this the main reason they work is because the antagonist is shrouded in mystery and the audience doesn’t know their motives so they can do stuff that is seemingly nonsensical as part of their master plan (even though it usually ends up just being bad writing). Since the villain in this game is actually the protagonist you don’t have that aspect. Everything that happens is a direct consequence of your choices, so having characters die off regardless of those choices, while seemingly necessary for the sake of the story, doesn’t really work that well with the premise unless you give the MC very specific motivations to limit the players choices. If you just kill off several characters without the orchestrator of the whole fiasco having any part in it it begs the question, ā€œWhat was even the point?ā€ It’s especially problematic with the villain MC actually playing along like the victims but still having control of the environment, since at this point you’re actually interacting with the characters directly rather than just being the ā€œneutralā€ sadistic observer.

Having multiple characters who are given a personality and development but exist purely to add to the body count is certainly a trope of horror stories, but I feel like it’s kinda bland. Like, it’s supposed to be shocking, but it’s been done so much that anyone who’s experienced any similar story won’t be surprised by it and it’s more just annoying because one of the characters killed off early might be the one you find most interesting or likable. It’s even worse when you’re in control of the person responsible for those deaths, because then it just makes you feel disconnected from the character.

Sorry if I sound like I’m shitting on your work… I don’t mean to. I’m really bad at softening criticism. I wouldn’t have responded if I didn’t think this was interesting and worth talking about.

Finally played the demo and men I can’t wait for more of this to come! it starts really interesting so Im excited for the next update :star_struck:

Currently, it is unknown how many people will survive as I will mainly leave that up to you, but no more than 3 excluding you. The criteria to survive will be the ability to adapt and of course luck, but cmon it’s a text game so it’s in my hands. Regarding the goal, yes, indeed it seems every villain needs a goal, but perhaps maybe a ā€œgoalā€ is not always necessarily needed, but certainly you the MC, you’re not normal and there’s a story behind it, but the whole goal thing, I’m not sure if I really want to be like ā€œI made this game because I want revenge or I’m killing you because of thatā€, I was thinking along the lines of ā€œI made this game, because I feel like it or you’ll die because I want you to dieā€, that sort of twisted mindset.

Indeed, having multiple characters is a BIG problem. Some people might like a character, but they get killed off without an option. Best thing I can do is put an option to not kill that character, but this WILL be rare and I cannot guarantee I can do this for all the characters. This was the biggest problem I had making this, a survival game cannot be done easily with just a few characters and there will be characters who people might like just to be story fodder. Of course I understand what you mean as the MC, you don’t really connect with any of them as they’re all victims, but then again this kind of thought I had thrown out as you can’t really connect with them as first off the start, you’re the whole thing this started and you basically plucked them out of their life. I was intending this to be more of a breakdown of characters and how people can change drastically under pressure, but in my own opinion.

Do not be sorry, criticism is always appreciated, especially helpful and detailed ones like yours!

Thank you. :slightly_smiling_face:

This game is really interesting! It’s such an original premise. I love it!

I’m kind of torn, because I like the idea of playing as a criminal mastermind, pulling the strings and manipulating other people for my own amusement. That said, I kind of wish I could play as one of the victims, because I love the element of mystery in situations like this, learning who you can and can’t trust and trying to figure out what the hell is going on. :yum:

Then I would like to ask you a question, regarding Russian names. Right now, I’m reading David McDuff’s translation of Crime and Punishment, and, even though I have a long way to go before I finish it, I’ve seen quite the number of footnotes that explain the meanings of some names, or detailing ironies such as Raskolnikov referring to his friend Vrazumikhin as Razumikhin. I haven’t yet had the time to do any research on it, unfortunately, so excuse me if my question sounds a little bit naĆÆve or childish. Here is the actual question: what is the importance of names in Russian culture and society? For example, my own name, Sara, means ā€œprincessā€ in Hebrew, but that is nothing particularly extraordinary. However, if your first post in this thread is anything to go by, in Russia names seem to have a certain power, or influence, that is present even today, and that is what I’m curious about. If I haven’t scared you away with such a wall of text, I’d love to hear what you know on the matter, as a native speaker of Russian.

Is it really that common?

I don’t really understand why there needs to be so many characters. I mean, we’re playing the person responsible for all of this, so we should know what’s going on. It’s going to be really awkward to read second person perspective for a character that the story doesn’t tell us the motives for.

Yes, drowning is the simplest way to kill your Sims. However, getting your sims to burn is pretty common.

Its very difficult question. Some people give meaning to their names others don’t.

I think I can see why it would be a difficult question, so thanks for hearing me out.

Seems interesting, can’t wait to read more!

Whew, finally done! Apologies for delay, it wasn’t the story that took me a while, it was the coding!

Anyway, here’s the new update. Please enjoy and if you find any errors, bugs, or concerns regarding character/story please let me know.
