Favourite Lotr Character?

#1

From the movies or the book. Mine has to be Thranduil (hence the profile picture) purely because of this :

#2

Lady Galadriel is my favorite :heart_eyes: also Cate blanchett is bae :heart:

#3

Sam, Stinger of Shelob! Also movie Gandalf.

#4

Without any doubt, Gandalf.

Leaving aside the fact that he’s basically single-handedly spearheading Team Good against Sauron, I really like the fact that for all his wisdom and power, he comes across as extremely human - despite not being one. He enjoys good company, a pipe and a glass of wine. He has an excellent sense of humour. He can get exasperated by small things. He takes pride in his ability to make firework, and show almost childlike glee in putting it on display.

Then comes his methods. Instead of simply doing the heavy lifting, he’s the kind of guy who challenges others to show their best, helping them along the way if needed, and at the end of the road, when others turn back on what they have accomplished and wonder “wow, could I have done that on my own”, he’d smile and answer “you know what, you probably could have.” He doesn’t believe his duty is to save Middle Earth, but that it’s to help its inhabitants to save themselves.

And finally, when it comes to the movies, Ian McKellen was an inspired choice.

Technically, Shelob isn’t slain. :stuck_out_tongue:

No Ranger lover’s? Shame… I think it’s obvious who mine is lol

#6

"BILBO BAGGINS DO NOT TAKE ME FOR SOME CONJURER OF CHEAP TRICKS!

Faramir? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Aragon is pretty cool

#7

I like Eowyn among the female characters. And from the Hobbit my favorite is Smaug.

Fixed the Shelob bit, thanks.

#9

Aragon, and actually I’d say faramir is an extremely close second. There who I model my dungeons and dragons characters off of personality wise and class sometimes.

#10

After she was blinded I`m pretty sure she died of starvation from not being able to hunt.

sits at keyboard thinking about how to choose a favourite

But if I really had to choose one it’d be Glorfindel. Name another character that was reincarnated (well brought back into Middle-Earth by the Valar shh) and played a heroic role in two parts of Tolkien’s legendarium?? He was head of the House of the Golden Flower in Gondolin during the First Age and died slaying a Balrog to protect his people. And then he came back at the end of the Third Age to escort Frodo to Rivendell to take a break from playing the harp and enjoying the peaceful elf life probably lol.

Like… Gandalf who? (Jk I love Gandalf he’s like the chill old uncle smoking weed in the corner of family gatherings, and who doesn’t love fireworks smh) And just look at this glorious first description in Fellowship of the Ring:

Glorfindel was tall and straight; his hair was of shining gold, his face fair and young and fearless and full of joy; his eyes were bright and keen, and his voice like music; on his brow sat wisdom, and in his hand was strength.

:disappointed_relieved: I love Arwen but am forever salty about the movie replacement TBH.

But maybe I’m just biased bc he was my childhood fictional crush after my friend dragged me into the fandom lol. :joy:

…it’s hard to say…I loved all the movie characters…:star_struck: I like, watched the trilogy time and time again!
If I have to choose only one…it would be Gimli. The movies would not be the same without a grumpy Dwarf

#13

Oh yeah Gimli is great. “[Legolas shoots down an Oliphaunt and kills 50 enemy soldiers] That only counts as one!”

#14

In the books, my favorite character was Faramir, but in the films, I think it was Gollum. The design was just so amazing and the character was so well acted that every scene he was in was just awesome!

#15

Legolas. Legolas. Legolas.
…the Radagast the brown as well; he doesn’t get enough credit.

#16

Sauron Sauron Sauron go go go, conquer those pitiful elves, idiotic humans, and grumpy dwarves.

#17

Probably one of the best quotes in the whole thing tbh.

He kinda annoys me as he is one of the few wizards and yet doesn’t do a whole lot besides unwittingly causing Gandalfs capture and escape.

#18

Probably a toss between Gimli and Gandalf for me, though I have a soft spot for those trouble makers Merry and Pippin too.

#19

Eowyn from the book. But not fan of her pairing with Faramir(though I like both of them)
Fëanor. He’s an ass with serious balls
Nellas. How I wish she survived the second kinslaying
Frodo.Last but not the least

Favorite moment in FotR-

“The ground shakes, a shadow moves in the dark… we cannot get out… they are coming… [clang!] Fool of a Took!”
