Fallen Hero: Revelations (WIP) Updated: Oct 23

Yes, you can and should. Suffering is not an excuse to cause more suffering to innocents.

You are aware that the name of the game you’re playing is Fallen Hero, right? The cool thing about interactive fiction is that you don’t need to play as someone who’s a paragon of virtue if you don’t want to.

While this is clearly the ideal to strive for in real life, fiction allows us space to explore all the possible answers to the original question (and people have a lot of reasons for doing so).

Obviously. The protag is not a good person. We all agree and love the drama of it. I disagreed with your comment about principles, that’s all.

I’m not saying it shouldn’t be explored in fiction. On the contrary the more tragic the more entertained and happy I am

I love Puppet things, but I like the idea of my MC being a fucked up girl that sees every single person she knows in terms of tools - including herself. She’s not got a Puppetmaster scar - not manipulative enough for it in the end, too little understanding of people - but it’s a damn close second.

I think the PC has pretty much all of the “scars”. It’s just that which one becomes prominent depends on our narrative choices.

I guess I am part of the minority that ended up in the puppet on most of my play-throughs. Just thought I’d reassure you that we’re out there. On a related note, I was wondering if there might be a Daniel/Puppet route. They only met in passing but they shared an interest in art, and there was an option for the puppet to be physically attracted to Herald. Hope you’re having a good day.

Probably in the latter two books if it ends up being a thing.

We get the option to choose ourselves as a rival. This book we have a puppet who can end up thinking that they’re us. Obviously the puppet is going to end up dipping into the superhero/villain game. Part of that will entail interacting with Herald.

You mean Sidestep in Puppet?

Think they mean that Daniel will be the one inside the puppet.

If my memory is still functional, I believe that today the puppet demo goes public

November 12 Path 3.1-3.3 and 2.3
Alright, better late than never. For people not already in the know, life has thrown a few curveballs in the real world, including a month and a half lost to sickness, both me and my immediate family among many other things. Slowly getting back on track now though. The puppet one was taking longer than I expected, there were a lot of rewrites and rethinks to try to fuse things together better and make it work. Thank you for your patience, I’ve got a lot of bits and pieces written that are not here, but this is what makes a workable demo.

So, without further ado it’s time to get stuck in your puppet and try to deal.

Length: 86 500 words long with code, 68 000 without code. An average playthrough is 19 200 words.

Let’s go!

…unfortunately Sidestep is the crying girl this time.

Am I the only weirdo who (named their puppet after my partner and) wants to romance them? :sweat_smile: Sorry Danny.

It’s impossible, tho, and maybe that’s good. Sidestep’s life is weird and wicked enough as it is…

Minor error in the beginning:

  *if bodysafeargent
//...
  *if bodysafeherald
//...
  *if bodysafeortega
//...
  *else

the 2nd and 3rd should be elseifs, since as it is currently the game will talk about pointing Ortega in your direction (the last else) in all cases where you entrusted someone other than Ortega with it, on top of mentioning the other person:

edit: some sentences have Ortega’s pronouns fixed instead of variables:

Looking up, finally, you meet his gaze head-on.
//...
"Why not?" You proceed to do just that, daring him to speak first.

edit 2:

*else
  Could it be ${hench_name} in there? You don't think so, ${hhe}'s not exactly telepathically sensitive. The baseline functions should still be available, sure, but enough to fight like that? Of course you didn't see the end of the fight, just one clip, short enough that it might have been anybody in there.

The train of thought in this variant makes sense if henchman was picked to take care of your body and you revealed base location to them, but not really otherwise, if the player opted for Argent or Harry instead.

Ehh, never say never. I’m an eternal dreamer.

Balancing your backpack precariously, you start preparing your clothes. It’s cramped to do this in the stall, but you can manage.

Do American bathrooms not even have a hook on the stall door? I thought the weird gaps were bad enough.
