Except Ortega views the MC’s counterpart as a villain, so Ortega will react to finding out the MC is the villain he/she has been fighting

I was going to wish that Spoon ended up being HG, but that got debunked pretty quick.

It depends. In my party Ortega suspect something about the villain. He wants to stop her, not defeat her.

I have a strange feeling that Ortega knows about MC being a villain. I can’t imagine how she possibly could, but I just get a sense that she is at least suspicious. Or maybe she just feels guilty. With her, that’s definitely possible.
Oh, hey, that’s exactly what the last poster said. Cool.

i havent read through the whole thread, so it may have already been mentioned, but i hope to
A. have the heartbreak incident be confirmed as a trap the farm set out to catch MC, ya know, just to make the farm more evil~
B. Have Ortega and Steel find out and react that it took MC years to escape if they know MC was captured in the first place

I don’t think the heartbreak incident was a Trap to catch our mc, but we can’t put aside that it was quite convenient too and with the farm who reacted really quickly.
I would think it was more like an expérience (or worse) until they saw who was Sidestep.
And yes, I think Ortega, and maybe Steel, will find out but probably at the end of Book 2.
Theory here! In Book 2 or 3, we’ll come into conflict with an antagonist Re-Gene (no, not Shroud) who used to be MC’s sole friend from back during their Farm days. Max angst ensues.
I’d actually been throwing this idea around in my head for a bit, but now there’s actually maybe evidence for it! Re Malin’s new short story post ‘Truths’.

Having a army of well armed goons when you build or criminal empire more suit upgrades and of course more drama.

I also wondered if there is an angle like this in the story, maybe that Re-gene can possibly affect some Sidesteps enough to push toward taking their fight directly to the Farm
And probably this appearance would force them to face their past

There are signs that suggest Heartbreak was a experimental subject that also escaped from the farm (The medical equipment on them, even monsters want to go home, etc) . When the Farm came to retrieve HB, they happened to catch their wayward cuckoo instead.

I think Ortega is working on his own. MC thinks he or she is the only one struggling to hide identity and villain persona. Ortega also changed after the heartbreak incident. I think Ortega might not be too innocent. Do you think Ortega would kill MC if Ortega discovered that MC is a regene?

No… just… no.
Human, Regene, whatever—Ortega loves the MC (as a friend or otherwise). Doesn’t matter what they are, their friendship and feelings for each other are real enough. Whether they will take it well initially is anyone’s guess, however.

until it is explicitly stated in history nothing can be said, only theories can be made about it
I actually think Ortega already knows Sidestep is a Regene. That reporter at the funeral, the way Ortega elides what was said exactly, calls him a conspiracist etc. My brain immediately hopped to the idea that the reporter told Ortega the truth
Whether he believes it is another matter but I think he’s been told.

They were about to have their organs removed so im hopeful for this!
Not outright kill, I only think she’d kill a mc who murders anyone and doesn’t care who they harm.

So happy to see the replies. I thought I am very late to the fandom but people are still excited about the story.
In my opinion, it’s a bit sad to see Ortega described as an emotional support for MC and an old person who should retire. I was hoping Ortega would get more involved in MC’s plot. I don’t like Hollow Ground so I hope Ortega would be vital in taking down Hollow Ground (eg. MC would have to cooperate with Ortega)
Ortega seems to be a beautiful cinnamon roll but I think he has a dark side. (It’s just my opinion of course) I think who is very stubborn against retiring and giving up would not be so forgiving when he finds out that MC is a cuckoo. I am not doubting Ortega’s feelings. Ortega loves MC so much that’s why I think Ortega would react strongly upon discovery of MC’s identity.
