Incidentally, I don’t see the problem with genderlocking so long as you can accept the fact that some people will criticise you for creating a game with a male-default player character in a market that’s already flooded with male-default player characters - and accept the fact that those criticisms are entirely valid.

Personally, in regards to my one genderlocked series, I’ll state that while games that don’t have a default-male PC are rare, games that aren’t power fantasies are even rarer, both in general, and in Choicescript, and I am still perfectly happy to exchange the former for the latter.

That big appeal of your series it not a power trip. If get powerful at all in this game through combination of luck and chance and being at right place and time. 1 things I love about your Infinity Series is it true role playing you’re a Royal Dragon officer member of the peerage so you have rights duties and responsibilities demanded by your superiors and society as a whole and if you try to do anything breaking a norm it will have repercussions. Yeah it look it can kill you it will kill you the MC has shit plot armor and I love it. It had dollar every time I got the"cannon ending".

Eh the Strenght of your game is that you make those power fantasies possible but make player work for it.
I mean taking on Hussar with magical sword and armor with nothing but your uniform and saber and winning ? yeah its hard but the narration makes you feel like it was at that moment narrator said.
“it was at that moment that legend was born”. and its even better moment because player can see just how hard he had to work for this to happen its result of blood and toil and its Fucking awesome.
I hope you continue to have such oportunities. you are doing Game of Thrones in terms of world of player success and failure. If player does epic thing is entirely because they worked for it. if players has major fuckup its because they fucked it up. and i like that.

On a personal scale? Yes. On a larger scale? Not so much.

No matter how good your stats are, no matter how powerful you may be personally, battles will still be lost, wars will still be lost. You’ll still lose allies, loved ones, family members to things you have no control over. That’s the key to avoiding power fantasy: if you push hard enough, you can shift the trajectory of a few people and have a lasting impact on the universe, but in the end, that same universe is still indifferent to your efforts.

Sure, you can be exceptionally good at fighting, or speaking, or anything really, but the universe doesn’t care, and that’s the attitude I’m trying to preserve.

But yes, this is getting a bit off topic, I think.

Don’t. Have it genderlocked. Too many games have the ability to choose gender. The greatest Choice of Games game however, has a man as a protagonist. If you make another game, then by all means, give us the choice if you really want, but not in this case.

I hope we can shift it in the direction of allowing real relationships between humans and elves sometime in the future, even if that is going to cost us dearly now. :wink:

Locking things away is not what makes a game great, the quality of its design and writing is and if two genders of the protagonist are too much for the author to manage or if they are not (yet) comfortable in trying to write things from a male or female perspective, I’d rather the author writes what he or she wants and finishes it then give up midway, even if it won’t be the game for me. That way I can always hope for the author to grow and maybe foray a little more out of their comfort zones (and into the territory I do like) in their next projects. :wink:

Thing is you give the player Opportunity to push hard enought.
And you if players succeeds you make it feel good.
Player in essence has opportunity to win some even if he cant prevent some loss.

Doing both perspectives is twice the work, and means the player is stuck essentially fighting against themselves. I’d really recommend you pick one character, and focus on that. (Preferably the imperial.)

More interesting and he’s the gender I like to play.

For the Genderlocking, I would suggest making the Rebel a Girl, but unknowingly to the wider world. When she’s revealed it would be like “Holy shit, it’s a girl”

Why - its a overused and tired trope … how can a secret agitator/agent be a girl!?! Better get Austin Powers on the job, mate.

I like those baby back, baby back ribs. On a side note truly I think that while they’re not over done just overplayed. Not even has anything to do with a girl just that in a lot of those show/movies the agitator/agent is immensely better than everyone else at everything which I think is a little weird.

I´ve never said it will be story of rebels and imperials fighting each other. I said there is imperial and rebel POV. As for gender question I am not saying anything else to that.

…well then, I admit I’m perplexed. It’s rather in the nature of being a rebel to fight against the governing authority, and the governing authority tends to fight back. What is it meant to actually be about, if not that struggle?

Imperials and Rebels, that is just a backround for book one. As the story progresses the real story will be revealed.

Exactly, it is way easier and allows more plot elements when it is genderlocked. Besides, there more than enough games on this site where you choose gender.
