Dragonslayer - Fantasy RPG (Stopping development, see post 288)

If the skills are equal it will just select the first option, so if its Strength vs Stealth and they are equal, Strength will win.

It would be better if when two or more skills are equal, than the mission is randomly selected from the two or more available ones. I don’t see why strength should always beat out stelath.

Chapter 5 is now playable! One scene (the Wizard’s tower) I’m especially proud of, as it has hundreds of different ways to go, and while not seem very long, has many results.

-Oops, accidentally posted early. ignore this for now-

Also for the last mission how about the last skill you used instead?

This is exactly like D&D, and I mean that in a good way. I feel like I’m being told the story by the DM and playing my character to the choices available.
I played an Elven Wizard, found that magic and a few sub skills really could get me though everything. And that’s the thing, I could play my character another way and it truly would be different.

Battling that dragon by lobbing large chunks of ice at it. I can just imagine my character making the motions of spell casting to combat the dragons.

I noticed in the beginning that Taron, I think his name was, he could help you a few times but the same isn’t for Vara, the young solider you can pick up in chapter 3 I believe. I would have liked abit more interactions with companions if possible.

Liked the travel system, buying supplies and such. Although, when getting to Westdock, I quickly made loads of money with nothing to spend it on. I spent 1500 on a skill back in the dwarven capital, but it would have been nice to buy some better equipment.

Also, I played a good character but I also prayed at the evil alter to receive that sharp knife. Hey, may as well having Daedra looking over me if Aedra can’t. Just hope that knife isn’t Mehrunes Razor, Dagon and I don’t have good standing, he’s too bloodthirsty.

Anyway, I like it. Also, spotted no spelling mistakes, so that’s good.

Dagon is awesome! He is my 4th favorite daedra behind
Molag
Sheogorath
Jygaal(old sheogorath)

@anon11888245 Thanks for commenting! Magic and Strength can get you through almost anything in the current build. Companions aren’t implemented in a way I like currently, so I am trying to make them more important. In the late game, it will require you to specialize in multiple areas in order to take down monsters, so you might need 80 Magic and 80 Speed, or 80 Strength and 80 Intelligence. It encourages players to diversify their skills.

Chapter 5 has been added to the game, for real this time! It has a lot of different options so while it might not be the longest chapter, it is extremely diverse.

@Ayzkalyn
You forgot to remove the “test” stats again.

Also, when Vara wants to join, I get (line 252: Non-existant variable “members”)

@RagEgnite Oops, I should probably playtest before I post these online. That has all been fixed, and I’m revising the fifth chapter now.

For chapter 5, I got the route where the man wants a white orb from you for a quick buck, and I have to say that I’m eager to find out what happens in the other paths.

Oh, and for the scene that involves the “pets,” there seems to be an error when you demand the man to reverse the spell, as I killed him even though I didn’t meet the precision requirement. (But I think I met the speed requirement, though)

Are you sure you didn’t meet the requirements? I checked the code and everything seems to be in order.

edit: Sorry, I fixed the error. @Dark_Stalker

I can’t start the game 404 but that was first link if there is a updated link can you post it plz?

I started with 100 strength and endurance.

… oops. I copied the full game files into the demo hoping to fix the 404 error. Forgot that the test file starts with some maxed out stats.

"Sudedenly, a hueg frog jumpde in frotn of me, and atatacked.

I balsted thefrogggg away wiht magci.
I silced it into two hvales.
I mdae godo frineds wiht it."

Hahahah xD

Also, I found aa typo: “They killed the evil River King!” (I was the only one down there.)

And there still seems to be that error where the elf demands his cut of the treasure from the tomb…even though he didn’t help me. I found the tomb myself. There should be a boolean or something that says,

*if not(helped)
He didn't help you so you get to keep all of the gold.

Also, here’s another typo: “I were almost to the city of Westdock”

“I’d been traveling for days, and it was some relief when I finally caught sight of the great town of Westdock, it’s stone rooftops made golden by the setting sun. Great towers stretched into the sky, and the royal palace stood high above the city, casting it’s shadow down upon the Blue Sea.” Both of the “it’s” should be “its”

“I guess you could say I reacted with “lightning” reflexes. Actually nevermind. Please never repeat that.” hahaha :’)

"“We know what we must do. We need to find the portal they plan to open, most likely far behind enemy lines. We have a powerful sorcerer in our village, who says he could locate the portal, but only if he can tap in to the energy of the surrounding land. Do you know what that means?”

That I get to go back to sleep?
That we have to enter a large underground dungeon?
That we are all going to die?"

lol xD

@Samuel_H_Young Congratulations, you found the LSD potion! There are 12 possible potions, (I guess I went a little overboard) and 9 of them alter stats. The others have special events, be it tripping out or vomiting gold coins onto the floor. “They” was intended to refer to one person, but I’m going to add a variable to detect if it is a male or female. Thanks for finding typos! It is sometimes hard to find typos in your own work, because you understand what you were trying to say.

The way the “helped” variable worked was that it would be set to one when you accepted his help. It would be set to 2 when you gained extra money, so he knows how much is half. I just realized that it doesn’t check that it is currently at 1, before setting it to 2.

I’m going to remove the compass and the knife from my game. The compass is only used once, and the knife is never used. Buying and selling mostly worthless objects is something I’ve decided I don’t want in my game. I don’t like feeling obligated to shoehorn something in.

Also, I’ve added in some foreshadowing if you loot the River King’s body, and collect the orb. I’m hoping to expand that plotline throughout the whole game, as an overarching goal.

@WulfyK If I invent some new situations where they come to use it would be against the point. That is what I had been trying to do, but it wasn’t working. It would be strange if there were only 2 (common) items in the game. They aren’t going to be “replaced” by anything— they don’t need to be. The compass is only used once (when navigating through the Elven Woods) and I’m just going to cut that scene out.

@HoraceTorys Buying rations before travel is going to stay, it’s just going to get overhauled. I’m going to make food more expensive, and I’m going to remove the “I had to work for money” option. The player will take damage to 2 random stats out of hunger while traveling. I’m also going to make horses useful for things other than just using less food.

@Ayzkalyn Are you sure that you can’t invent some other occasions where they come to use? And what will be the replacement?

@Ayzkalyn or the elven wood: it would be better if you keep the scene but makes it dependant on a stats check instead of the copmpass, I think intelligence or magic could be resaonably used for navigating the way.

@Ayzkalyn Definitely get rid of buying rations before travel. It’s cumbersome, and once you have thousands of gold, it’s insignificant.

I’m working on quests that will only be given to people who specialize in a certain skill now. Magic users will get a quest in which they have to chase a thief through several different planes (Plane of water, endless underwater area, Plane of Air, floating rocks in white void, ect) to retrieve an artifact. Strength users will have a quest in which they are offered a chance to compete in the arena, fighting several different opponents. Stealth users will be offered a chance to rob a huge mansion of the outskirts of the city.

If anyone has any quest ideas, I’d greatly appreciate them.
