Wait 'til Melusine turns up with their fishy parts. There will be much awkward squirming.

Well, it hasn’t really occurred to the MC at present, mostly because they don’t want to eat people they’re seen associating with. (Enlightened egoism, really.) Whether we become less or more of a monster over time will be up to us.

A cynical fishy risuka, sounds fun  Now the mandatory question: can I eat it? :yum: I love hibatchi.

Ah. Ok. I’ll try to take everyone out to dinner.

So you mentioned a single parent necromancer, what is he the father of? Is it edible? If I eat him do I get his powers? How does he taste?

You can eat anyone you put your mind to! So yes, that includes Fishlove.

He’s the father of a human (possibly) child, described briefly in the update. The child is edible, although very high in fat, and wouldn’t give you any powers besides a certain amount of emotional stability.

Metzger himself creates flesh-golems using occult knowledge rather than magical powers, but we could gain his knowledge by eating him, yes.

Here’s a quick rundown of how everyone tastes:

Jessie: Sun-baked flesh, adobe (the brick, not the software), steel, calamine lotion.

Melusine: Depending on the reader’s choices, a hint of pike, tuna, or seal blubber (granted, seals aren’t fish; will be explained in next chapter).

Yuriko the yurei: Orange soap, vomit, conditioner, plastic CD casings.

Metzger: Blood, despair, baby formula, Cheeto dust.

You’ve doomed him…

Also tasty.

Safe. Until winter comes, to really savor that flavor.

Safe. I hate orange soup.

May I get an explanation on the species?

Which species were you confused about? (I’ll probably put a codex in the stats screen once I figure out how).

Off the top of my head the yurei.

Ah. A yurei is a Japanese ghost, typically lingering to enact revenge, and often appearing as a humanoid in white burial garments. Japanese folklore actually isn’t my specialty, so a lot of my knowledge of yurei comes from J-Horror movies like The Grudge: the yurei don’t necessarily create illusions like a rusalka, but they do have some paranormal abilities (e.g. teleportation).

In general, y’all, keep in mind that the plot and characters may drastically change (or vanish) over time, as I’m the sort of person who makes big, sweeping changes down to the last minute of my draft. For example, I’m considering removing Jessie and Yuriko, since I’m not yet sold on their plot-importance and their characterization thus far is respectively limited to ‘snarky mafia princess’ and ‘dorky sweetheart whose limbs bend the wrong way.’ Thoughts are welcomed.

It’s taking longer than I expected to work out where the story will go, so regrettably Devour will be on hiatus indefinitely.
