I can’t find the guidelines for HG games, so a few questions:

As HG games are more flexible than CoG games, what were the basic ‘rules’ for the following:

- Max. wordcount between page\_breaks/choices
- Frequency of choices (I have seen HG games with a good chunk of pages and no choices, and I find that right now I’m running into the same issue with my games, due to world-building)
Thank you

Everything you’d need to conform to in order to be published by Hosted Games is on this page:

> **[Write a Hosted Game](https://www.choiceofgames.com/looking-for-writers/write-a-hosted-game/)**
>
> Writing for Hosted Games Anyone can publish a game under the Hosted Games label. Hosted Games are written without editorial support from Choice of Games, and you do not need to submit your ideas in…

There is no maximum word count per page (or if there is some technical limit, it’s so ridiculously high that it’s never been an issue). Use your best judgment, playtest your own game and see what feels right.

There is no rule about frequency of choices. There was a game that came out last year that had about one choice every 2500 words. Few people bought it and even fewer liked it, but Hosted Games was willing to publish it.

Thank you.

I’ll try to keep pages to about 500 words max. Gotta see about what the current longest gap between choices is, thought.

Yeah, as Aletheia says there are no rules/requirements in that regard. It’s worth playtesting a lot, especially on mobile, to see how a page feels length-wise - too short and it can feel choppy, too long and it can feel in need of a choice and/or a page break. But it’ll depend on the feel of the writing as well.

As for wordcount, I think the sweet spot is usually keeping sections short enough that players don’t feel like they’re just reading a novel, but long enough to deliver the atmosphere or plot beat you want.
