I love this game with my whole heart :slight_smile: Especially characters, their interactions and the amount of choices that can influence the development of story.

I also found an error: chapter-4 line 8199: It is illegal to fall out of a *choice statement; you must *goto or *finish before the end of indented block.

Would you believe it if I told you the unicorn belonged to my MC, and the bunny (sometimes changed out for dragon) belonged to his sister?

As for names, I don’t really remember what I named the dragon-bunny, but the unicorn often got the name Jewelhoof. Don’t judge him–he was little when he came up with that! :melting_face:

For the sibling, went with dragon entirely because it felt cute and appropriate for whatever reason, but for the PC’s one I chose puppy and went with the name Scruffers because I just wanted to bring in one of my oldest stuffed animals into the game :slight_smile:

Hello. Sorry again for the radio silence, but I badly needed to destress after some terrible stuff happened. If you haven’t been checking the blog, this post has the details. I’m mostly okay now, but it has made me reconsider my plans about the game. It was also my birthday last last week, if that’s something you care about.

Anyway, I just finished coding in the new Ancestry and Heritage Traits! I changed a lot of them to be a lot more thematic, so I’m mostly satisfied with the new trait effects. If there are any further changes, it will most likely just be number tuning.

Ancestry Traits

You can select an Ancestry Trait regardless of your chosen favorite genre. There are two versions of the Ancestry Traits. The enhanced version (indicated by the “+” symbol) is only unlocked if you choose High Fantasy as your favorite genre.

Notes:
Some Traits will improve your “Main Stat”. The first attribute (Vigor/Grace/Knowledge/Charm) that you choose to increase during the prologue is considered your main stat.

Some Traits also grant :eyes: [Enhanced Senses]. Having this trait gives you additional information on certain interactions, such as when eavesdropping and exploring in the dark.

:sun_with_face::owl:[Diurnal/Nocturnal Focus] is the status effect you receive from [Morning Person/Night Owl] if it’s your preferred time of day; [Sleepyhead] if it’s the opposite.

I still need to edit the prologue with the new changes, but this is shaping up to be a fairly big update (since I’m also doing a quick editing pass on the whole game), so I’ll probably wait and release the changes along with the rest of the missing choices in Chapter 5.

I’m also going to change some parts of the prologue/diary so it mentions the job of MC’s dad, but you probably already know that if you’ve read IAC. :wink:

@LiliArch Thank you for the IAC reports, but I’ll let it be for now. The story/characters/worldbuilding still hold up for the most part, but after all the new developments/changes, IAC needs more than just edits. Unfortunately, a total rewrite is a very low priority for me at the moment.

And to answer your IAC question (please put spoilers on your question too):

There’s no general answer to your question as it depends on a lot of factors (like what they decide to do about it, how much they deviate, how much it affects the plot, whether or not their story is finished, the author’s intentions, etc.), but generally the TARDIS Squads handle the worst offenders. There’s a lot to explore there, so that’ll definitely be a major topic in future volumes.

As for the telenovela, it’s mostly a reference to IAC, so it doesn’t have any real significance. I might change the story/characters to something that you’ll see again later though, since there most likely will be new characters from CANon’s Slice-of-Life department.

Anyway, I’m glad you’re enjoying the twins’ relationship! I still don’t have a very good handle on the twins if they have a complicated relationship, so feel free to let me know if there’s something you want me to address. I’m currently working on edits to the Chapter 1 fight scene so there’s more build up to it.


@dawn I actually already made a stuffed toy poll on the thread before, but I guess it doesn’t hurt to have a new one and compare the results. If it helps you decide, the stuffed toys will come to life later in the story! :slightly_smiling_face:

When you finish the story, I would personally like to see it as a downloadable game so that more people would see and play it.

Also, I think it’s unfair that we have to restart the game if we make a small mistake over costumizing our character. There should be a “previous page” button.

Is this your first ChoiceScript game? I’m sorry, but as much as I want to add that feature, ChoiceScript doesn’t have that functionality. There is a save button on the top right of the screen (beside the settings button), so you can use that instead to save at the start of a new chapter, for example. You can have up to twelve saves. :slightly_smiling_face:

One more thing. Is there a particular reason why the story takes place in the Philippines? Is it perhaps based on your own experiences?

@mermaidf Yup! Especially the school and jeepney scenes, and a big part of Chapter 3. There’s also quite a few references to real life events.

I do wanna mention that only Volume 1 is set in the Philippines; the other volumes are set in their own story worlds.

There is another reason why it takes place in the Philippines, but that’s very much spoiler territory. There’s also the fact that there’s a lot of Philippine mythology/culture/folklore that I wanna include, along with Southeast Asian culture in general. Who wants yet another Western-inspired story anyway?


On another note…

I’m curious about what nickname everyone picked for their bestfriend. I totally wasn’t expecting it, but Lyna and Jamie (Roselyna and JM), are actually growing on me.

I also wanna know if someone picked something else other than the preset nickname options. :grinning:

My MC’s piglet plushie is named Strawberry, and her twin’s dragon plushie is named Chocolate. (I was going to named him Hot Cocoa but ending up changing my mind and going for the default name: Chocolate.)

@LiliArch Ah, that’s fair! I was just curious, since from the playthrough codes I noticed that some people chose to have custom nicknames (but I didn’t really track what people picked).


@mermaidf Thank you for the suggestions! I might add vitiligo as an option later, but at this point I really need to limit new customization options since I’ll have to draw them as well in the future.

As for the hair color, MC’s school doesn’t allow hair dye, but you will get the option to dye your hair (or change your hairstyle) in Volume 2!


@DementedBitch Aww, a piglet named Strawberry sounds really cute! I think Hot Cocoa makes sense too since he’s a dragon, but yeah, I based the default plushie names on MC & Twin’s favorite milk flavors.
