Since the last day I posted, I wrote about 5k more and did a 2k game in a jam. I did also many editing and outlining that doesn’t count as words but they are very useful.
I am in 30k

Today’s Update:
Project 2:
The last few days (since the last update) was dialogue writing, which I find very exhilarating and rejuvenating. I discovered a theme that is recurring in the story which acts as a motivator for the NPC characters and it is a unifying element in the Opening Act of the story.
Now I am at the design and layout phase once more, where I am preparing for implementation and writing but I can’t move forward yet because there is a lot of important material being added here. Doing this now will make things a lot easier in the future, but it isn’t as fun to me.
I’m going to leave off total words, because there is a lot of change on the design docs I am using in this phase (e.g. character sketches) and the progress will be seen in bursts of activity until I get through this design and layout phase.
I hope everyone else is succeeding in their projects.

Hey people! So I have decided that my gamebook idea suits a Fabled Lands style system better since exploration is something I know I always would want in a SW game. Though I think there might be elements of Critical IF in there too, depending on the final system. But I am going to create a demo for Mos Shutta and see how that looks and if things go well and I don’t inevitably get distracted by something else I will try to create a full gamebook for the system and if THAT goes well, maybe even do a whole series like a madman.
SO, yes, might actually be writing something shortly… took me long enough…

Status: Very Far Behind for April 30th Completion (Says I’ll be done on June 26th at this rate!)
(Remember, 50k for Apr. 30 is just an estimate to finish the rough copy, it may take more or possibly less. I’m leaning toward more.)
I’m not going to make my end of April goal.
I guess I shouldn’t have set my sights so high, but at the beginning of the month, I had all the time in the world. It was a bit of an arbitrary goal, so it’s not that big of a deal that I didn’t make it.
I think I’ve reached a turning point though. I have my “work from home” job figured out now and I should find myself with more writing time during May. I don’t know what June will look like.
I’ll keep this fun update going past the end of April. It’s exciting to see a few words of progress. It lets me know I’m still moving forward.
Great to see everyone else’s progress!

I’ve been having some problems with the structure of my (romance-heavy) story, and so I ended up changing the order of some of the important bonding scenes. I felt like I wrote them way too early, risking the relationships feeling rushed and weird. I also fixed one of my ROs who didn’t match my initial picture of them. I had to scrap some of the writing, it’s always daunting.
I’m pretty happy with the results. That managed to lift the roadblock I felt I had, so even though I’ve written less than I’d like to, it’s a big win.

I’ve been silently following this thread and you know what…I might join in May.
I already have a story idea I’ve been planning. My one problem is outlining and connecting events together That’s what killed my wips

Edited another chapter of my book, trying to finish another chapter edit, and then I’ll reward myself by working on This Present Wasteland.

For that, I have advice that will look weird but it is useful. Stop thinking big, think small.
Write small interactive stories. END them, participate in small jams and contests. Your planning and outline will develop faster as you end projects and get faster feedback. Each Story will be a step further towards your objectives. It also brings a great advantage, you will know how to end a game looks like with editing and proofreading.
Of course, there are other ways to improve all that. But this is what was useful to me

Finished another chapter edit. Eleven down, nineteen to go. Checked my email to see if the last agent who requested a full manuscript of my last book got back to me, and she hadn’t, but I’m being impatient. Ended the day by finishing the first of four possible scenes that may appear during one chunk of This Present Wasteland.

I haven’t finished writing any IF yet (although I’m making some serious traction with my current one) but I can say with the books I’ve written, at least, it is like @poison_mara said: start small. Writing styles vary, but a lot of the time when I start I just have an opening scene, and a vague idea of where I want to go, and the rest I figure out as I go along, and then edit to make it look like I knew what I was doing.
And remember, any writing is good writing. Writing anything, from IF, to books, to short stories, is a skill, and just like any other skill it takes practice. Short WIPs that only you see, jams, little scenes, all those are useful, and good, and add up, and something to be proud of

Kinda feel guilty that some other ideas have snuck into my brain and tried to overrule the demo idea I had… plus you know, Fallout 4 and Fallen Order is distracting me.
Definitely going to create something soon though. Been buying and trying to play several gamebooks for inspiration… no not distraction, inspiration, honest!

I have been 3 days without any form of writing because I am depressed and hurt. I am starting to feel like I will be years blocked by fear of failure like last time I had the same feelings.

I haven’t written on it in a bit because I was too busy procrastinating (I tell myself I was researching by reading my favorite authors for inspiration), but I got to a little over 1,000 words on my project since May 1st. I feel good about progress so far, however small. I think I’ll shoot for 20,000 or so words by the end of May? Maybe more or less. I’m not going to stick too hard to wordcount.
I know the feeling. I’m bad with words of encouragement, but I am cheering for you, and I know that so many others are too. Take as long or as short a time as you need. I don’t believe there is such a thing as failing when you’re writing.

Same. I didn’t write all weekend when I was off work, and now that I’m working I just feel so drained. Going to try to force myself to finish editing a chapter and write the next scene of This Present Wasteland tomorrow. I hope things get better for you

Status : I’m curious to see where I’ll be by the end of this 50k. It might be close to the end, or I might need to make that number bigger. NaNo thinks I’ll reach this 50k milestone by June 18th, which isn’t too bad.
Breaks are okay. Consecutive writing days might feel good at the time, but they aren’t practical. It’s much more important that you are able to return to it when you’re ready.
You’ve identified that you’re depressed, so you know that your feelings aren’t entirely trustworthy right now. Get rest, exercise, and healthy food… when you’re back to feeling like you were 4 days ago, you’ll be able to write again.
Don’t beat yourself up over it. That never helps. Just concentrate on getting your mental health back and the writing will return when you feel better.

I just hit 60 000 word count on my WIP. The writing flow has been good this week, I hope to keep up the momentum.
