Since it’s likely that we are going to be house bound until the end of may now I figure I have time to plan some stuff out and then write it up over May. Probably being very ambitious assuming I can do 400+ Gamebook sections that are worthy of Mister Livingstone, Mister Jackson and Mister Lucas but I can but try.
…for that matter I also have the insane idea for something similar in November with Horizon Zero Dawn.
I am so gonna hate myself by the end of this…
EDIT: All my Star Wars bro’s btw, do you prefer Tattoine or Batuu (Galaxy’s Edge location) as a gamebook setting? Just checking…

OK I have roughly planned the Story, and written about 100 words of the opening scene, more planning tomorrow

I have an idea that I’d love to crunch on too, but I have a writing partner so I’ll see if she’s interested in doing it. Have some serious catching up from April 1st.
Probably just focus on getting a lesser goal done by the end of April, and then a bigger goal by the end of May.

Yesterday I did a good chunk of work on something secret #2. I think about 2500 words…? Feeling good about it.

The number of words is not the objective of this. The important thing is together writing and each other trying to make our goals

I’ll chip in, too. I have so much more time to write due to the special circumstances, that I have a mind to finish at least 3 of my first chapters this month.
Rough draft of the 1st one is done, others need more work. I wrote around 3000 words today, and I try to write a thousand more but I won’t hold it against me if I don’t do it. I’ve been planning this story since last summer, so it’s time to ditch that part and just write.

776 words today on thing #2, which is 776 more than I expected to get done!

Yup. My Westward Dystopia trilogy started as a NaNoWriMo project that really took off better than I expected. It’s a story-focused die-roller that has it’s own take on Fighting Fantasy combat and cover art by Fighting Fantasy artist Tong Hough (who I very specifically commissioned for the art.)
If I may make a suggestion: Don’t neglect graphing out your paragraphs/sections and how they relate to each other. If you don’t you’ll seriously regret it because even a simpler book can really get bogged down quick if it’s even remotely non-linear.

I guess I should update my wordcount:
Project 5 - no movement.
Project 2 - 1,400 new words to date.
I hope to find an alternative to graphing, because I made things a lot worse by trying to do this on one of my projects.
Or did you mean: graphing, mapping, or outlining? Because I do better by outlining and mapping than actual graphing.

sincerely for me, all are impossible. I am incapable of mapping or graphicking. To me, those don’t mean anything. I have to have the choices and the mechanism in my mind.
I know that having graphics is better but like I don’t understand them for me have no value.

I wrote an article on this way back in 2015 that may be helpful, with a less-detailed picture of how I graphed out my first gamebook. Anatomy of Gamebook Flow, Greek Winter Blog

The article is great and similar to what I am doing. However, the graphics are beyond my knowledge. I don’t associate from a map a scene or the flow. i have it in my mind.

Thank you for the example.
I tried using that graph program you used to do just as you did, but it actually confused me more than helped.
Here is an example of mapping for an IF game called Nocked! that works better for me.
This is a text-based IF game and the act it maps out takes place in Nottingham castle.
Edit: Both shows the flow of the game, but I grasp it better in the “map” version.

You two did some of my favourites mods for Bioware games. You always are some of my favourite writers ever. Your work in your day made me want to go and write…
But now I have to return to look grumpy and angry lol. If not people would discover that I am a big fluffy person inside my grumpy shell.

Your Gamebook series sounded so interesting that I grabbed the first and third books off your site! (Was able to find book two in paperback on Amazon). Thanks for your great suggestions, I think your blogs do a great job of defining the different types of Gamebooks out there and I like the fact that you elected to shift amidst your own series with different formats. If I get the chance I would like to create a Gamebook of each type - pure CYOA/Narrative driven, FF/stat driven, Critical IF style and FL/open world style!
