congrats guys and will there be an open beta
All of the entries were fantastic! Between richly crafted worlds, interesting game machanics, and just plain fun times, you guys didn’t make judging easy, you know.
Congratulations to all of the participants! I wish everyone the best of luck in finishing and releasing your games.
And a special thanks to @lordirishdas for bringing everything together. I hope we can keep this contest a yearly tradition within the community in the upcoming years.
WOOHOO! Congratulations everyone! We’re all winners. We all finished which is a huge achievement.
Thank you so much Marajade and CS_Closet and LordIrishDas.
I also want to offer Shenrai and Turtler huge thank yous. They were the best beta testers I could have ever asked for.
It is late but I have the page up http://www.lordirish.com/contest.html.
First I want to thank you all for the hard work you did. You should all be proud of yourselves. Even if you did not make it this year, you took the plunge. That can be a very hard step to take sometimes. Please, finish the work you started. This was merely a tool I could offer to get you started. Now is the time to crank away and get it published.
Again special thanks to @Marajade and @CS_Closet, you helped me more then you will ever know.
If you notice there is a timer up on the link. The next contest starts July 1st 2014. There were more then a few hiccups along the way. Thanks for bearing with me as I worked them out. I have learned a lot this round and hope to make the next contest even better.
Of course all your feedback so far has been great, please let me know what you think. I had a much longer list to write out but, a last sleep is trying to creep in. lol. I will be tweaking the rules, and scoring. I will try and refine the process as well. There will be a theme next year. One or two words, but you will not be scored on this. Alright I need to shutdown my brain for a few hours. So take care all.
i think you should do this again this summer because many people will have more time… i would like to participate but i would not want the money… is that possible?
I’m actually planning to create some Choice Challenges. They’ll be mini-contests. Since $200 is an unbelievably generous amount to me and $350 is just unthinkable, there’s no way I can afford to fund prizes but I’m looking into alternatives.
I’m waiting to get a few things set up and some details bashed out.
What would be amazing is if the contest was backed by COG themselves that the 1st prize would be having your game published under the official label with a 25% royalty to the author (if it was a completed game) The contest itself would be good quality control.
I’m a bit late but, congrats to all! And thanks again for the competition @lordirishdas.
Damn already planning the next one?
@Headhunter180 I would very much like to have CoG backing in any form they choose. However, they did not ban me from running it here so I am greatfull for that at least. Who knows they may have plans of their own some where down the road. Regardless, I am happy to run it solo for now.
@hyperguy I would be happy to run it this summer if there is enough interest. But I am afraid I can only afford the cash prizes once a year.
maybe you can just do it for fun. i don’t want the money anyways i just need some inspiration and to write for… other wise i am too lazy so please do it. i don’t care about the money i just need some inspiration and know what i need to improve on so please
I have a prize in mind… Who ever gets first place gets a portrait of themselves displayed in the Hall of Fame. Good?
well maybe he can make a page on his web with all the names of the winners
I will throw a Banquet at my house for all the winners… make sure to dress fancy and by Fancy I mean ninja suits
Hey everyone. I’d like to officially withdraw my entry from the competition. I didn’t read the rules close enough. I’ve made no secret of the fact that my entry, Paradox Factor, is a reboot of a game I made nine years ago. I’ve discussed that fact in many threads over the forums. My thought was that because I didn’t start coding it in ChoiceScript until well past the deadline that it was okay.
Now that I’ve actually read the rules, I see that we weren’t supposed to have released it in any form.
Sorry for the misunderstanding and congratulations to the new winners!
!st place @FairyGodfeather
2nd place @Dima
3rd place @2Ton
@Lucid it was an honest mistake and we thank you for taking it upon your self to correct this. I will be chatting with @Dima and @2Ton in the next day or so over the adjustment on the prize money.
Having just read Paradox Factor: silver lining for all of us. Terrific game, really glad it’s now in ChoiceScript, hope we soon see it up on CoG.
We all make mistakes, and this year’s contest was a good learning experience for everyone in different ways. Thanks for stepping forward to resolve the problem.
I do have to wonder if anyone else feels that any of the rules need more clarification, though. It’d be nice to catch any possible misunderstandings now before they get a chance to happen in the future.
@Lucid
That’s very honest of you, I really respect that.
On the bright side the competition did push you to make that game and there are no such restrictions on previous games being published by CoG, silver lining right?
