A question to everyone who didn’t finish. What do you think could be changed to allow you to finish next year? What were your main obstacles in getting your game completed? Did anyone start on Day1 of the contest and then find they hadn’t finished on Day 58?
@aurumcelest I had similar issues with the game wanting to grow larger than I was capable of writing in the time-frame. I ended up being absolutely brutal. I knew there was absolutely no way that my first few ideas would be feasible in such a short space of time so I ditched them. I went through several concepts that I dropped. I spent a week or more working on one project only to realise that it was unachievable and by that time it was March 18.
I took what I learned though and said “Episode 1” to myself. I kept the scope as limited as I could. I had an awful lot of todos and branches which I had to prune in order to hit the deadline. Right up to the last hour of the contest I was filling in detail on some of those TODOs and hacking off others.
I drastically under-estimated the time it would take to finish anything. But the contest was such a valuable lesson in hitting a deadline for me.
I’m just detailing out what I did in case it helps anyone for next year.
Just to keep you all updated. We have had some challenges on the judging end of things. Three of them are now completed an it is a very close race so far. I will be announcing the winner’s on the 15th.
I now have all the numbers and putting together the winner’s page. I will be announcing the winners on the 15th when I shut down for the day, if I have all the information from the writer’s by then. I want to give a special thank you to @CS_Closet and @Marajade for hanging in there to do all the Judging. Due to RL, I lost three Judges. I feel this was a close contest, and a very enjoyable one. Thank you to all that took part and look forward to next years contest.
Im Honored to have been allowed to participate, Id like to thank you on behalf of my friends and I who thought it was an amazing idea, and Id like to thank the judges and writers(even if you didnt submit your a winner in my book) and I wish everyone best of luck still and Im very anxious to see how this first contest ends
It was a great opportunity. Thanks to everyone who was involved. I think it provided excellent motivation and helped spur forth many excellent ideas. I can’t wait to see the results!
On second thought it is not fair to make you wait that long
As soon as I can pull into a rest area I will put up the winners list and the rest of the info late tonight.
