@Headhunter180 12 midnight GMT
@andymwhy it is my pleasure to be holding this contest.
*whistles* Damn, @Lucid you work fast, I haven’t even hit chapter 2 yet lol I sense alot of coffee in the near future for myself, all I can say to my credit is that I’ve just hit 90kb of data on the first chapter at about 16,000 words (measured in open office, so might not be perfectly accurate). Sigh and I have so much left to go… (Darn it computer, why couldn’t you get fixed faster lol). In Any case, to all the contestants, good luck and may the best man (or woman) win!
Greenwich meridian? Hoooo boy now I know I have even less time lol there goes finishing the rest in time. Ah well on the bright-side it makes for a sizable demo
Headhunter, I’m on about the same word count as you and same size of file. WHEEEEE!!! If you do manage to get another 16K words I will be so in awe of you.
I am planning on just having the one chapter, I’m going to call it an Episode. Episode 2 can come later.
Can we submit an unfinished game just to get feedback from the judges?
@headhunter180 very few I have a feeling are going too have a finished game so please submit what ever you got.
@lordirishdas So that’s effectively Saturday Morning?
Shame I offered to work Easter Friday, not Easter Monday! ^^
I’ll have to see what I can do with tonight and tomorrow evening
Good luck everyone and congratulations to everyone whose produced something (anything) - It’s not easy.
And thanks to you LORDirish for your extra-motivational foresight and generosity.
I really hope we’ll see more things like this, I want to see more finished fan-made games.
Sorry my fault that is Saturday night not morning.
*edit so midnight Saturday night going into Sunday. GMT. And thank you all for writing your hearts out.
If I might make a suggestion for future reference, perhaps contests should take place in the summer in order for
1 more contestants
2 higher workability (no school and such)
That makes senses. When is summer break for most?
Hmm middle of June, July and August are pure break. So around the 25th of June I believe.
So would it be better for all if I run the next contest from July thru August?
Most likely, I also believe that by doing so it dosent run the risk of coinciding into many holidays either.
I had a quiet March Break, which gave me the time I needed. Summer is hit or miss, but sure, sounds good.
The timing was nice for me this time. But, it’s so random. I never know for sure when I’ll have time.
Took a long break, probably lost me the contest lol. Oh well time to continue trudging onwards to finishing this game.
Sounds like I gave you all to much time. Perhaps I should only give 30 days next time.
Put the real pressure on!
30 days is enough time to get a really good beginning on something, but I don’t know if I’d expect a complete, full-length game from that. @_@
But if the deadline was in only 30 days I wouldn’t be able to procrastinate for a month!
I think a nice short game should easily be possible in 30 days. Learning to write with that sort of deadline and make a small, tightly focused game could be fun. I only started writing my game on the 18th, (I had a few aborted games before then), and the main issue I’ve come across is not enough time for thorough testing. I’m worried that there’ll be a game-stopping error that I won’t realise until after the contest is over.
But is there any reason to limit to only 30 days. The 60 days deadline made it seem more achievable. It gave me room to breathe, but also to procrastinate, to come up with ideas, to learn how to use ChoiceScript (which is a lot of what I was doing before).
I’d suggest changing the scoring system next time. What I’d be most interested in is a debriefing from all of the contestants and the judges, outlining what their thoughts were, all the pitfalls and benefits of the contest. What it taught them and that sort of thing.
@FairyGodfeather I was joking I think 2 months is important to make a good game development, even if you procrastinate.
Yes once the contest is all send and done I will be looking for lots of feedback from all.
lol after seeing the first game, I am very glade I am not judging. This will be no easy task for them. Can’t wait to see the rest.
