@OtherGrimm. I’ve already fixed the first two but I’m stuck on what’s causing the Acrobat stat error.
And yes an experienced Detective would switch into the appropriate outfit in advance but your character is brand new to this, and more importantly, the Dean didn’t give you any prior notice of the field trip or that it would be in a park so how are you supposed to know what to wear?
Again, keep it coming. Even the details re: spacing, spelling, etc are all super important.
Greetings Programs!I I found a bug after you go into unis house and u click on the option it involves Uni a cowboy hat the the game just stops can u please fix it?
End of Line
Are you planning on adding back in some of the customization? I was a bit disappointed to find out that my old hero is no longer viable as you can’t choose stealth as your best stat anymore. Ended up losing me the CTF game.
Otherwise, love that you’ve added so much more to the game. Really nice work
EDIT: on that note, anyone know how to win CTF as a detective? I’m struggling a bit here.
EDIT 2: to answer my own question, for anyone wanting to win CTF, don’t choose detective. I’ve gone through it about 10 times and as far as I can tell, there is no set of answers that will yield victory.
@OtherGrimm, the mask thing is just a bad variable…I’ll fix it. And I’m still tweaking the combat parts. I’m making it so that CTF can be won by characters with a starting stat of 4 in Whoosh, which means Sharpshooters and Detectives.
@StarWarsMaster, Hmm I’m looking into that. From viewing the code, there shouldn’t be a problem. It looks like it sends the player to the “what to do about the Contrarian” group? I might have to actually play it through to figure it out.
@Bootsykk, I’ll have CTF winnable via stealth for the Sharpshooter and Detective (see above comment). I’m still working out the kinks with the combat scenes since I introduced the new archtypes. I’m sticking with the ones I have, so there won’t be any folks that specialize in Pow or Shhh but I’ll try to keep that in mind and make sure the folks who have starting stats of 4 in those categories can have success using those tactics.
I’m glad you like the new content. I’ve spent sooooo much time trying to figure out a “label” for the heroes and villains. Using “powered hero” was just not an option considering Zachary Sergi’s coining the phrase in Heroes Rise.
Everything else I could think of…capes…supers…metahumans…have all been used so many times. I wanted something more unique for my universe, and although I didn’t want to go into huge detail in Part I, I did feel like I needed to do some universe building here so that in Part II, the MC isn’t like, “What a minute? Zenith Shields? Shouldn’t I have known about this in Part I?”
edit
FIXED: Per @Wonderboy’s comment below, the code now allows characters with stealth >3 to get close, but to get even closer/close enough to win via stealth, the character must have put on his/her stealth suit when given the chance. I think that makes sense.
Successfully making the second sneak check in CTF requires shh of at least 5. With the new character creation setup, the maximum possible shh you can have at that point in the game is 4. Changing into the stealth costume doesn’t seem to help.
Awesome! I’m glad. That was my favorite outcome mostly for how surprised they all are.
One thing I noticed though that I have yet to recreate is that as the sharpshooter, the option to change into the stealth suit is there. However, when I tried to select that option, I got a non-existent variable for “stealth suit” and the game crashes. Earlier when I tried to look at my stats with the sharpshooter it gave me an error that I didn’t quite catch, not sure if that has to do with it.
Oh, the non-existant variable only occurs with sharpshooter. No problems with the Detective, and I just passed the CTF checkpoint. Thanks!
EDIT: A weird error that just occurred: when I checked my stats after visiting Jacob in the hospital for the first time, returning to the game lead me back to the beginning of CTF where you’re meeting everyone, starting with Tress.
@Bootsykk, I think it might have been because I was messing with the code while you were playing. The Jacob code looks okay.
The CTF is all fixed. I just played as a sharpshooter, successfully changed into my gear, got a good mask variable (that matches with the mask you usually wear), and was able to win via stealth. And no Origami, I am not a ninja!
@HornHeadFan I played as archetype : soldier and when I get my upgraded equipments it gives me archetype : acrobat on the stat screen. Also since you changed the new archetypes what is the closest to the previous detective which had high strenth and stealth.
The stream of consciousness post is great. I find myself doing the same thing quite frequently.
A few responses:
Will there just be this one generation of heroes/villains because of the shields being taken down in the 90s? Maaaaybe. Or maybe that question will be a central issue in Parts II and III.
Yes I wouldn’t want to work for Tolly either but her heart is in the right place. She has a few serious scenes sprinkled in, especially one in the Crook group storyline.
The HELL study group can give you a Hmmm stat boost, which can be helpful in a variety of ways, and it also gives you information, which can really help the player ace the test and can lead to further boosts, which can lead to a 3.0 and further boosts, so I thought it was pretty even with Breaking and Defense. The same goes for Secrets study groups, as each study session (there will be another in Chapter 6) can get you an extra secret and help you ace the class in addition to getting a permanent stat increase in Shhh.
I hoped to introduce some new ideas in the Uni scenes. After all, the girl barely has superpowers (I’ll work on defining them better, but basically she has enhanced muscle memory and that’s pretty much it), so I figured she might rightfully be a bit paranoid with all these total stranger classmates capable of doing God knows what. Now is she really using this as an excuse to dig up info on others? You can be the judge there.
@HornHeadFan Also on my 5th playthrough I noticed that if you choose to go to Uni’s apartment both choices that you make when you get there end with errors.
I like that you are giving a specific origin to the supers in your world, but there are some practical issues with your Zenith Shield idea that you may (or may not) want to consider.
In short, putting an impenetrable dome over a city will literally kill the city. No city is self-sufficient. They generate next to no food, and usually get their water from outside. There is simply not nearly enough surface area in a city to feed all the people, even if planted in every free space, roof and window. That’s why we plant the entirety of Iowa and similar states instead.
Economically it would be fatal too, for the cities in and out of the bubble. All major cities are trade/transport hubs, and the coastal ones cannot be replaced-- there are only so many good harbors. So even cities outside will be seriously hurt when good can no longer flow in/out from NYC, Boston etc.
And if you close down all the shipping and manufacturing and tourism, a huge part of the shielded cities population will be out of a job, which while make things ugly until they use up the food reserves.
If you want to stick with the “impenetrable dome” concept, maybe it is intended to be turned on once the missiles are launched. (It would have to take up a ton of power) But they had drills the first tuesday of every month to test the system, practice, and mutate the citizen’s genes.
Half of me says, “this is a comic book style story and some (large) level of disbelief is required.”
The other half says it could be tweaked some. I seriously had a paragraph describing the social, political and economic chaos that took root in the years after the shields, but I thought I might lose part of my audience “getting into the weeds” too much.
Hi @HornHeadFan long time CoG but new to the forum, anyways I’ve been following the CCH game and I noticed I can’t fight Rain and shine (it’s skipped over) anymore are you revamping that scene too?
I noticed that the age option was removed, too. I guess it didn’t really affect anything, though…
When asking who your character is ‘checking out’, I would suggest rephrasing the options that you provide if someone says they aren’t looking for romance. Instead of making the PC ogle people, maybe make it an option of ‘I might date a guy/girl/someone if I found the right person.’ That way players don’t feel like creeps. ^_^;
Also, another bug: going into the Hero Stats page as a Sharpshooter gives the error ‘line 89: invalid ${} variable substitution at letter 20’. Equipment also ends after Intermediate Movement, missing Advanced Movement and all the Stealth equipment.
I love the new opening, but I think the archetypes can be a little wordy. Maybe for the stealth uniforms you can just keep to saying which environments they’re suited for and not what colors they are?
I also think it’s kinda funny that I can be all like “Mega Cat is elitist and a tool” and then wear a Mega Cat backpack and talk about how much I love him. Talk about tsundere.
Idk if I missed something, but apparently I stopped talking to that man and started daydreaming before the police cars came in?
This is most likely unintentional, but in the game you refer to Nil and call them “it” when you don’t know what their gender is. If it wouldn’t be a bother, I’d feel more comfortable if you replaced “it” with “they” because when referring to a trans or nonbinary person, “it” has been used to dehumanize and misgender people, and that could potentially make someone uncomfortable.
When I tried to charm the crowd, everyone referred to me as “she” even though I am nonbinary. The conversation also ended with everyone saying they love me, but the narration says that I don’t think I can win the argument. I think the best thing in this situation would be to say that after a few minutes, the crowd went back to protesting and you gave up, realizing you did not change their minds.
All the flirt options make me wonder, is it possible to still romance someone without using the flirts? I think that’s an option with Tress, though I haven’t tried it, but yeah, I was just wondering. I know some games require it, but the flirt options aren’t 100% in character for my hero.
Would it be possible if when Hedonist is rubbing Mob’s shoulders to think Mob is being uptight, but refuse to laugh? And if so, maybe also an option to laugh just because every one else is?
