I think it mentioned somewhere that you could die during the physical stuff as well, that’s not really legal/professional and school-like either is it. Nor is invasion of privacy for the other students. So yeah, normal rules do not apply. It’s sorta like the love-potions of Harry Potter, those are like the wizard equivalent of rohypnol but nobody bats an eye-lid at those. Just drop it.
@Wonderboy, I love your summary of the school!
“Either the faculty is all secretly supervillains trying to corrupt a bunch of impressionable youth, or the school is just a nightmare of mismanagement.”
So looking forward to the new stuff!!
As others also mentioned, Hedonist actions are illegal and immoral, not “just” inapriopriate or creepy.
From the secretary comments i got the impression that MC was one of the first, or the first to get into interview ( “the first to get an A”, and that no one else mentined it before) and that he will also extend his “offer” to other students (“door won’t last long”), but that also suggested that some will refuse him. Yet it wasn’t clear enough and like i said if he swayed their consent with use of mind control and it worked even on one student, then he is a rapist. I suggest more clear explanation about it in game. Maybe at least something along the lines: “He tried that again? When will he learn that it never works” from his secretary. That would at least clear he not raped anyone, but still his action would be illegal.
I understood that Hedonist power are mind control, because of how easy the whole class was enthralled by him, males and females, while his behavior was portrayed mostly as seductive. But the comment about his power working only on powered people must have been someone elses sugestion or something, so i see i was wrong with that.
For now Hedonist is a criminal, who uses his position of power (or possibly his superpowers) to sexually harass his students, and i think it would be hard to make him not to be a villain, since so far so many of his actions are illegal. Maybe less touching (though i thought that his urge for physicall contact with the bare skin of his students was part of his powers, like he needed to touch them for his powers to be more potent on them) and definetly any sugestion he makes during his interview so far automaticaly makes him a criminal. If you want him to be a creep and not criminal, maybe make him talk about his sexual endevours or sth like that, that would make him inappropriate and creepy, but as soon as he hit on any of his students his actions become illegal.
As their teacher he is in position of power over them, so any advances from him to his students are considered sexual harrasment or even sexual abuse.
As for his motivations, I thought that he volountereed to the assigment, because he wanted to harass more people, not that he considered it crappy. I even wondered if Savior have a reason to hate Speck that they send him. If he slept with everyone at Savior, and now he came to Speck to sleep with students here, then it makes him even bigger villain, that roam around the country and sexually abuses people. If he can’t resist having sex with his students even if he is trying to help them, then he shouldn’t have put himself in a position of power over them, maybe volounteer undercover as student. And i don’t see how seducing a student and giving them better grade for having sex with him can be considered as giving “special privileges and mentoring to his favorite student”, just that he picks a student each year and stalks them trying to make them want to have sex with him promising favors with educating them.
Anyway i think there is still a lot to do with him to make him the person you want him to be, because so far he is just one of the villains of the story.
@Wonderboy “Either the faculty is all secretly supervillains trying to corrupt a bunch of impressionable youth” that was exactly what i thought
. So far it’s the only teory i have that would make it all make sense. With how easy it was for you to get to school over others and with what the teachers are teaching to students (physically hurt others for your own gain, spy and betray your friends, seduce people to use them for your pleasure)
@Ponku I wouldn’t completely rule out the “massive mismanagement” theory. One of the running gags of modern superhero stories is that anyone whose vocation is dressing up in funny costumes and getting in fistfights as is probably at the least suffering from some sort of mild personality disorder. Add to that that these people were probably never trained as instructors, that between the big name schools and actual superheroing quality powered instructors are hard to find, and the fact that Speck administration has no clue what a proper superheroics lesson plan would even look like, and it’s just a recipe for disaster even if everyone’s intentions are more or less as they seem. Then again, the fact that you have three instructors and in the flashforward opening are being attacked by three supervillains as punishment for “trusting the wrong person” is highly suspect.
Unlike apparently everyone else, I had no thought that he had any mind control abilities. His primary power is clearly being made out of granite and that’s why he was pegged as the “defense” instructor. I figured his hold over the students was just the fact that he’s a high EQ “cool teacher” who has a hint of celebrity about him due to his association with Savior, and a room full of teenagers aren’t always the best judges of character. Certainly Mob didn’t seem especially mind-controlled when he was getting skeeved on in class.
Well at least Hedonist is controversial. Mission accomplished! *stands on aircraft carrier with banner in background*
And as far as the whole “persona” thing goes, what if I just made it so it just tracks those stats based on what you actually do? So your choices would determine your highest stat, which would in turn determine your persona.
For example when Tolly introduces you at the press conference, you might get a *choice about how to react to the crowd. If you choose “cross arms and frown sternly to show everyone we’re serious!” then you might get a point to your traditionalist stat.
If you choose “wink and grin at a few cute reporters to win them over,” then you’d get a point for your charming stat.
This gives the player full control over choices and nothing would be greyed out. Still, I’m willing to bet many players will choose a personality in their head and act pretty consistently even will given the option to choose rather haphazardly. The best of both worlds, huh? Plus the personas give me a nice built in range of choices for most decisions.
Thoughts?
I actually like that idea of being able to choose a persona over time. I’d still pick Charmer for sure, but part of the thing with personas IMO in a game like this are the actual choices themselves. Like, I always dislike when I think I’m signing up for one thing in my head when I lock in something and it turns out to be completely different in a bad way. (No specific examples come to mind on this, but romance options that you talk to them more than like once and you’re suddenly together fall into this category. I signed up to be friendly, not sleep with you!)
I do really like the idea of character commenting on certain plot relevant scenes if you’re acting ‘out of character’. Like your example of a jokester character with maybe 15 points in that and 0 in brooding suddenly going dead serious.
I also like how Alpha Protocol did a similar sort of thing with choosing your type as you go along. If you were the trickster type that was known to fuck with people throughout the game and play people against each other - there were certain parts of the game that even if you were telling an enemy the truth to win them over they wouldn’t believe you. But if you were the Traditionalist type who never lied and upheld some sort of moral code throughout the game they’d believe you instinctively. Building up a ‘brand’ as you put it would make people have much more of an impression of you for good or for ill because they know the type of (anti)hero you are, while going haywire and being nothing in particular made you much more unpredictable/unreliable in turn because they don’t get that impression due to inconsistency. (And you as a player might not even know what archetype you are at the moment because they’re so close. =p)
After all, if Superman told me that my roommate was actually a supervillain I’d believe him just off of principle. If Deadpool told me the same thing, ehhhhh. For all I knew my roommate just got the last milkshake before the ice cream machine ‘broke’ at McDonalds or something.
I like the idea of personas as long as it doesn’t turn out like “HR2:the hero project”
because that game seemed to punish me for making choices, and I ALWAYS ended up as “chameleon”
As long as we don’t get railroaded(which you’ve made clear you don’t want to do)it should be fun.
for the record i like HR2 i just didn’t like that aspect of it.
If we do meet any villains can there be a funny one that speaks to the voices in their head? Or just any sort of Deadpool villain.
Hey just replayed the game and wanted to know if Hedonist is a Villian, like a mind-control rapist, cause honestly he freaks me the f–k out… :-S
IS it possible to score a 4 pointer? :0
maybe this has been asked but im just curious…
Also~ Love what there is so far
i do hope the MC ends up having powers (as a choice) in the game!
Woohoo! I’m writing the ending tonight. Now I still have to go back and add a TON of content in Chapter 6 and I still have a TON of coding to do, including all the archtype changes, all the relationship changes, and some changes to the Stats Page, but just having the last Chapter written will feel like quite an accomplishment. I admit that I started this project without a complete outline (more of a general story arc), so some of this has been off the cuff. The comments/suggestions have really helped a lot.
Thanks for the support! I think it will add a little flavor. And yes I would guess Charmer might be the most popular choice (ala Tony Stark) but I could see having fun imagining myself as the jokester acrobat like Spidey.
Actually, I hope all four appeal to different people. The more I think about it, the more different heroes you could create with combos of personas and archtypes. Jokester sharpshooter = classic Hawkeye. Traditionalist acrobat = classic Daredevil (at least pre Frank Miller!) and on and on.
Yeah I cited Heroes Rise: Hero Project a few pages ago as an example of too much railroading of a player’s decisions. Plus, I think the options were so confusing in that game that even if I wanted to be “such and such” character, I never knew what the right choice was. I ended up being the chameleon quite often too. But yeah, I enjoyed the characters and plot anyway. So basically I agree with everything you said. I could have just said that.
Well the MC will encounter more villains in Part 2. And they won’t be all in the Dozen. After all, the Dozen doesn’t have a monopoly on villainy. They’re just the top of the food chain. So you might encounter a few weird/lame/not entirely bad villains somewhere along the way. You never know!
@Ironic_De,
At the risk of restarting the Hedonist debate (which I really don’t want to do), I’m glad you find him controversial.
@Xhandas_Antonidas, I’m a little confused about the “4 pointer” comment. What do you mean?
I’m glad you like it, but don’t hold your breath about getting powers!
@HornHeadFan Is there anyway to get 3.0 in the game without taking it up the…you know by Hedonist. Im just wondering
@ HornHeadFan
scoring a CGPA of 4.0 sorry xP
It IS possible to get a 4.0 GPA.
You have to answer all the HELL questions correctly (pretty easy).
You have to be a Tactician or Detective to beat Combat Wombat in Breaking Things. Try tying Stoic up (raspberry won’t work, dunno about hitting her).
You have to accept Hedonist’s offer.
You have to promise to steal the most secrets (five, I think).
Fail any of those, and you lose your 4.0.
@Deathwriter, yes there is. If you just suck up a little to Hedonist you can get a B. Even if you storm out, you get a C and a 3.0 is still doable. See OtherGrimm’s guide below for ways to get As.
@StarWarsMaster, probably not this week, my friend. I don’t want Beta to be a hot mess, which is what it would be if I tried to do it this weekend. I’m making good progress though!
@OtherGrimm, thanks for posting the guide.
@HornHeadFan Is Crook’s secret available yet? I have been trying to find it to no avail
Nope it’s not there and I’m not sure if it will revealed in Part 1. I have to keep some stuff for the next one to retain interest.
@HornHeadFan When is the game actually coming out…or any news about a new chapter or something?
