What happened to tactian, I rather like the infrared goggles and listening device. did that merge into detective?
Yes, basically tacticians would now have a mean right hook, giving them some offense while still being able to focus on stealth and analysis.
I love that solution.
My complaint with the above suggestion is that there are two stats that it is now impossible to specialize in (Pow and Shh).
I think it’s better than the 3-archetype plan, though. Then again, I’m one of those people who won’t be happy no matter what, so my opinion may not be worth much.
Out of curiosity, are you specifically avoiding giving anyone 1s in the tactician stats for balance purposes? If not, I’d suggest switching the dump stats on acrobat and soldier to hmm and shh respectively. It’s not the biggest deal, but it strikes me as somewhat against type for an acrobat to have poor spacial reasoning, or a soldier to be slow moving.
Also I’m tempted to suggest switching the detective’s dump stat to zap, if only because then you’ve perfectly recreated my ideal custom character. The frail braniac makes sense as an archetype, but it kind of sucks to be a melee combatant with the toughness of wet tissue paper.
@Wonderboy can you type out what the stats would look like with your plan so I can take a look? I’m just confused with the numbers. Thanks!
I like the new arch-types and the way they are.
Acrobat:
Pow 4
Zap 2
Thud 4
Whoosh 6
Shh 2
Hmm 1
Soldier:
Pow 2
Zap 4
Thud 6
Whoosh 2
Shh 1
Hmm 4
Detective:
Pow 4
Zap 1
Thud 2
Whoosh 2
Shh 4
Hmm 6
@OtherGrimm, hey at least you think it’s an improvement! I will treat that as a positive
@Wonderboy, I’ll think about those small proposed tweaks. It’s nice to know you’re analyzing this so thoroughly.
I don’t know if I want the acrobat to have a 1 in Hmm. I would guess she would be jumping into walls and hitting her head on fire escapes with having awareness as a weakness. Preferably the acrobat would have high stats in Whoosh, Pow and Hmm, but then he gets to be very close to being a Detective and plus I want/need two archtypes to have a high Thud score and there’s just no way to give that to Sharpshooter or Detective. I figure Daredevil used to wear some armor and folks like Moon Knight still do, so it can work conceptually.
And yes I didn’t have like having a 1 for Whoosh in soldier, but I really wanted to mirror Cap’s tank-like qualities and plus I figured he should have high Hmmm. The 1 in Whoosh was just a concession I felt I had to make. Even being slow, this archtype should be pretty bad ass in some situations, especially with upgrades, pushing forward with a shield with one hand and zapping an enemy with a taser in the other. Like a riot cop or something. Might be a hard matchup for Mob in the first sparring scene!
It’s never going to be perfect, because obviously the comic book street level heroes we’re used to are awesome across the board but the MC is not supposed to be awesome at all.
On a 1-6 scale, I figure Daredevil would really be something like…
Pow 4
Zap 2
Thud 1
Whoosh 5
Shhh 6
Hmmm 6 (radar!)
Batman would be even better…(but Daredevil is cooler)
Pow 5
Zap 4 (lots of gadgets)
Thud 2 (kevlar in new 52, right?)
Whoosh 4
Shhh 6
Hmmm 5
I agree with your vision for the soldier, but that’s precisely why I thought the tweak would work for that archetype. Riot cops are the guys you call in when stealth is no longer and option. Not that Cap has never snuck around in his life, but if I had to assign him a weakness, the honor bound good guy dolled up in primary colors is probably faster than he is subtle.
The acrobat is a closer thing, but I still feel like the depth perception and spatial reasoning necessary to do all that jumping and flipping without injury would lend her at least adequate accuracy. And I like the idea of at least one character type being the dim one and the acrobat’s highly physical, in your face, skill set suggests her for the role. Then again, I suppose the whole point of unpowered heroes is they need their wits to make up for other deficiencies, so maybe there really shouldn’t be a dim one.
Anyway, just my 2 cents.
Would the personally selected weakness be eliminated too? I rather like being able to choose that for character building options.
You sold me on the soldier change! Yeah Cap isn’t the most subtle of combatants.
Still thinking about the rest!
Is your forum name an ode to Wonderman or Wonder Woman or do you just hold a high opinion of yourself?
@Ashlyn1634, yes I’m sorry about that but it is a gift to myself to balance out adding an archtype. Also, to be honest, very little of the current code addresses weaknesses (it’s just too overwhelming) so now I will actually address them in combat.
I actually plan to write 4 versions of the major combat scene now to focus my attention on the unique stat and weapon combos and because each archtype might wade into combat in different ways.
The name’s partly a reference to the Tenacious D song, partly a shortening of a name based on a less well known song by the Cardigans (Beautiful Wonderboy) I used to use on various fora as a playful signal of high self regard, and partly an ironic dig at my own aging.
I like the new archtypes! As a fan of the Tactician I can get behind the new Detective. I’d just have to get a few good grades and some smooching with Crook to have my l33t stealth back - now with extra kick-punching!
Error when going out on a date with Unicorn,
Line 2759 not a number, interested
@trinnie, you don’t happen to like Community, do you? The kick punching line just reminded me of it!
@jcury, fixed.
Do u have a new link for the fixes or is the latest link work for it??
Also I love absolutely love the new update!!! Keep up the awesome work!! Will be on here everyday!!! Your loyal fan!!!
@StarWarsMaster, it seems like a weird day when you don’t at least say Hi!
And the update is linked, but NOT the new archtypes and the stuff we were talking about today. I’ll continue to fix game-stopping errors on the linked update, but other than that, I’m working offline on new content and implementing the changes to the archtypes and relationship stats.
