@Rag, thanks for the compliment then! I will try to check it out.
@FallingCups, the only issue with that is that DG has a problem with authority! But I think you’ll have at least one chance to partner on a side mission with her. Did you party with her?
@HornHeadFan Yes, we partied, I kept the pace with her so we could have a good time. And I’m totally fine with going Anti-hero with DG if she decides she want to go renegade. Though the way she got shocked over me dropping Paper Girl, I don’t think she would like me sniping people FOR JUSTICE! (and money…mostly money. I’ve got bills.)
So I was wondering, are any of the characters kind of like illusions to famous superheroes? If so, who?
I know Mega Cat is like Batman/Superman or something.
I love this game! I looove playing as a powerless superhero! Do you think you could add a Black Widow type character option? Still a brawler but someone more flexible and technique focused rather than someone who relies on muscle and body size. After all, the powerless heroes that are most dangerous are the ones you just can’t seem to hit
My favorite npc is probably crook or stunner. Crook because he’s mysterious and stunner because he’s entertaining for me to read about
I was taking a break from working on Chapter 3 today when I started considering adding some artwork to the story.
Everyone, what are you thoughts on that? Pros/cons? I know it would need to be professional level work to not detract from the story, so I do have that concern. As you can see from my new Crook avatar, I don’t have access to professional level art tools (or professional level art skills for that matter!)
Would it assist in reader/player immersion or could it distract readers who might think, “I didn’t imagine Ms. So-and-So looking like that at all!”
Just curious about peoples’ thoughts on this matter.
I’m really liking this so far too, has a great Avengers Academy vibe to it, and Tress almost makes me think of Medusa if she had the personality of Starfire. I think artwork of the actual characters sounds like a great idea if you can manage it but it’s really up to you.
Great game so far! I personally prefer it without images but I’m sure others would like it. Is chapter 2 playable as the latest point I can get to is the night before classes.
There’s pros and cons to having artwork, so if you want to do it I won’t stop you, but if you don’t I don’t see how that’s a loss or anything. Game’s great with or without.
@RedRoses, I thought long and hard about the characters and tried my best to be original although I think it’s near impossible to not have a character somewhat resemble another existing character. Mega Cat might be the Batman/Captain America type top level hero icon in this universe, but I can tell you quite confidently that his personality will be nothing like theirs.
@DarkBear, I may consider adding other combat styles, but I’m having a hard enough time juggling six at the moment. I want each style to have a few instances where it just doesn’t work very well. And I really thought about doing a Pow/Whoosh combo (seeing as how Daredevil is my favorite character) but I wanted to keep the stats equally distributed in the combat styles (i.e., Whoosh, Shhh, etc. are all featured twice as enhanced stats) and well, I ended up with these.
@Derek, I haven’t read Avengers Academy but I’ll take it as a compliment! A friend told me it was like a mixture of Hogwarts/Community(NBC comedy)/Kick-Ass and I thought to myself, “Well that would be a pretty good combo, wouldn’t it?”
@Kablamicus, Well Chapter 2 is playable, but it ends where you describe - the night before classes. It starts at the beginning of the Capture the Flag game. Chapter 3, which I am currently writing, introduces you to the classes/professors and the plot really starts to take off.
@HornHeadFan No problem, it’s worth reading if you get the chance, a group of teen heroes who the older Avengers have taken on to be the next generation of heroes, though who have the promise to be villains because they have been tarrished by Norman Osborn, the Green Goblin. But that certainly seems like a decent combo.
I think I’m going to sketch the characters for my own amusement and also to insure continuity. I find that for myself, having a colored sketch of each character helps me avoid mistakes in their descriptions throughout the story. My 8-year-old daughter is currently coloring different copies of the Crook sketch to determine which exact color scheme is coolest (I know he has a green cloak/hood and beard stubble, but everything else is undetermined in the story).
The jury is out whether I use them in the actual story! I’ll keep taking into account everyone’s feedback. It’s so valuable!
I had no idea that weakness would be so sorely missed! I was afraid that a character who struggled to talk/interact with others would significantly handicap the MC since the plot and missions are heavy on NPC interaction. I’ll have to consider perhaps reinserting social awkwardness as a weakness.
I’m still working on balancing stats. I will use to keep tweaking them throughout the game as I write. Admittedly Whoosh and Zap are overpowered at the beginning. I’m working on giving Hmm and Shhh more love in Capture the Flag and possibly the “follow the patrol cars” prompt in Chapter 2. Pow and Thud just aren’t as useful when chasing cars or people, but they will definitely come into their own in Chapter 3.
Your performance in class will determine whether or not you receive weapons upgrades (tentatively scheduled to take place in Chapters 4, 6 and 9). The weapons upgrades will significantly boost your stats in two areas.
And regardless of your stats, you’re going to get your butt kicked some in the beginning. That’s a crucial part of the plot - rising from a non-powered nobody to becoming more of a threat.
